This helps me so much, especially the part about not letting them work at night in the cold. My last game before i was banished, i had 300 out of 700 people sick, with people dying every 2 seconds. I had thought it a good thing they would build even after work shift was over. I took advantage of that too much.
I've had this game for over a year, and never had a session last longer then 25 min before getting banished. I have learned so much from this video so far I feel 10,000% more confident that I can save humanity now!!!
Check out my comments for more tips. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have and offer advice for whatever scenarios you're playing.
Npc comment. People like u can vote
Lol it's a tough game but I finally beat the new home play thru
Lol time to make more popsicle people.
on my first playthrough, i saved 793 people and won on my first try... every single time i have tried after that, i die on day 9.
Great walkthrough! I was looking forward to part 2 but very disappointed to see you never posted it. Please upload a part 2!

Please do pt.2 soon. Smooth run on this one, good job.
I would be happy to see it
Owned the game for over a year. Looking to get into it this weekend. Really good job man. Thank you!
Emergency Shift (24 hour shift) on piles doesn't kill citizens, ever. The 2nd time you use Emergency Shift and if it is on a Building, someone is guaranteed to die. Afterwards it is random chance to kill someone.
On Hard, A New Home, First Day, I like to immediately get Emergency Shift, and use it on three Wood Piles with full staff, 15 citizens each. They will completely harvest them in those 24 hours. You'll be set on Wood for awhile. Meanwhile I have 15 on Coal, normal shift, and 5 on Steel. You don't need that much Steel in the start. On Hard it's more important to get you economy stable instead of rushing the Beacon. On Normal I get the Beacon first because the difficulty isn't as strict. Even with not rushing the Beacon I still get my scouts to Winterhome by Day 10 or 11.
On my current Hard A New Home, I built Workship overnight on Day 1, Day 2 Work Time, researched Tier 1 Tech Unlock, afterwards Wall Drill, Beacon, More Scouts, Hunter Gear. Having two scouts early let's you bring back the critical bursts of resources and groups of people back fast. The 100 food rations, 1 Steam Core, and 217 Wood from Sturdy Shelter is probably the most important early scouting location. It's the one right after Lost Expedition.
EDIT: Spelling and context.
Thanks! Love the info on 24hour shifts on the piles - gonna restart (again :D ) and try your method!!!
@@derek5634 I'm happy to help. Let me know how it goes and if you have more questions. That Hard, A New Home playthrough I mentioned ended up getting the achievement for Iron Savior (on Xbox, I got it before years ago on PC). So I did something right. I love this game so much I bought it and all the dlc on both PC and Xbox. I have yet to conquer Extreme or Survivor Mode but I will eventually.
@@derek5634 Check my other comments on this video for more tips. Video Game Architect did a good job and great effort, he just got a few facts wrong. I look forward to him doing more content because he does explain thing quite well, he just needs to double check the facts first.
@@Vazkiel cheers mate! great tips!!
@@derek5634 My Tech path with doing the 3 wood piles on 24 hours emergency shifts is as follows.
I build the workshop on the first night, let your people on Free Time, to keep up production during Work Time. Never build during work hours unless you have a surplus of people and no avaliable production jobs for them.
Workshop open on 2nd day. I have enough wood to research the Tier 1 unlock tech. Get that done and then Wall Drill. Don't do Sawmills, focus on one tech and stick to it. Then Beacon, then More Scouts.
can't wait for part 2... I'm new to the game and this helped Immensely! thank you
Coal Thumpers make a coal pile on the ground. One Coal Thumper produces a bit more than what two Gathering posts can gather in a day. A Steam Coal Thumper needs four Gathering Posts to operate efficiently.
Both versions of Coal Thumpers can be upgraded with +15% production
Gathering from piles can be upgraded twice, +15% and then another +15%, either directly or from Gathering Posts.
Coal thumper is not very good, just bypass to coal mine, need to research the beacon asap, send scouts out and look for a steam core. Never have coal problems ever again.
Would love to see pt2 - You're great at this!
This is by far the best tutorial I have watched so far. Many thanks for that.
I just got into this game last night and only got the basics going but it's definitely cool! I was happy to find a good tutorial , I was worried nobody played!! I look forward to other content
Is the game play similar to Command and Conquer?
Amazing RTS experience.
"This is a Bunkhouse, where you can put a whole bunch of people, kind of like a mini apartment."
Incorrect, housing units always only house 10 people, the upgrades just have more insulation.
I always dismantle the automaton from the Steel Bridge. It gives you 2 Steam Cores and 87 Steel. Much more useful than an early automaton for me. You have enough citizens at that point of the game. It is viable to send it back whole but you lose out on a whole Steam Core because if you dismantle it at your city it only gives one.
It depends on you build and how well you've been managing. If you went for more Coal Thumpers, then the free early automaton is useful as it frees up a workforce of 10 citizens.
That's the versus balance, Coal Thumpers require more manpower, 30 citizens, no Steam Core and produce more Coal than the basic Coal Mine.
But if you Dismantle the automaton with the scouts at the Steel Bridge, you get two Steam Cores, letting you build two Coal Mines, and use 10 citizens each.
The math comparion:
Coal Thumper: 30 Citizens, 560 Coal per workday.
Coal Mine: 10 Citizens, 1 Steam Core, 240 Coal per workday.
The 2 Steam Cores from the automaton scout event let's you make 2 Coal Mines which is 20 Citizens, 2 Steam Cores, 480 Coal per workday.

I prefer the automatron I use them alot for coal protection and late game I mainly need them to keep everything going specially when u have to survive the massive storm
I'm still getting banished but much later, not sure where I am going wrong - the big freeze seems to really do me in but there is only so much to go around - I have coal mines and thumpers going and 2 automatons gathering but after the lone survivor comes in hope is really difficult to raise again. any tips?
Even on Hard I skip Sawmills, and go for Wall Drills.
The only time I might use them is on Normal Difficulty, Endless Mode because research speed isn't debuffed, and the Random Hazard debuffs force you to diversify your tech and resource production. Such as when Hothouses produce only 10% so you have to rely on Hunters and the inverse can happen.
If you use more than 1 research center as soon as possible it helps speed it up a ton! I prefer wall too but I progress faster than most with the children being coal gathers from thumper! And start exploring asap with beacon n get 2 people on beacon! My last play through which I beat I had crazy amount of kids and workers idle with nothing to do! Because of how efficient I got it
I use the sawmill asap to counter my speed of play. When I have mills up, im set, but they can stay up for a backup. Until the weather gets too bad.
This game is very fun and satisfying. However- I work from home and I usually have a 4x game open on my personal laptop (this actually makes me more productive at work) but this game is too much like my company. Discontent is high and hope is low. Management asks ridiculously inappropriate things of staff. So I can't play this game during the week, it becomes too stressful lol!
Extremely well made guide 10/10
Correction, laws go into effect immediately, they aren't researched. EDIT: it is best to get through the law book as soon as possible because it is a cool down when you pick a law. Listen for the sound of the cool down ending, (pause if you're not playing on survivor mode) and pick a law, even if you don't immediately need it at the time. It's best to rush to get to more powerful laws, so keep eating through the lower tier laws, never let the cool down sit there until you got all the necessary laws. END EDIT
Advice, don't build during work time. The citizens could be gathering during that time. Build during free time. Building the gathering post right off that bat like that wasted time you could have been gathering.
Yes the posts are more efficient but the time it takes to build is time they aren't gathering.
Bruh at this point just make a playthrough video
I'm in Vermont. It was just -15 here 🥶
Frostpunk is such a good game. I had so much fun playing it!
most extreme deathless runners start with Beacon, since you get an early start in exploration which is very valuable
My mom showed me this game a few days ago. I suck but it's alot of fun. Thanks for this video I think I can thrive now
This is next level, can we get pt2 soon?
Hey man thank you for video! Im waiting for part 2
lookin forward to part 2 man. u still uploading?
Not a game I was expecting to see a tutorial on this long after release, but nice to see how someone else plays it. Those poor scouts... You might be planning to point it out farther into the series, but placing gathering huts next to multiple coal thumpers is a decent strategy instead of assigning workers to the piles directly. That way you can set them off to the edge and the people doing the collecting stay warm at the gathering hut.
this game is a cult classic. one does not simply "stop playing," FrostPunk... because, as we all know: *THE CITY MUST SURVIVE!*
I always put children to work until they die lmao. No wonder I always get banished after 45 mins playtime. They all start calling me a maniac. Lollllll
how did you manage to keep food so high?
Literally exactly the video I was looking for 😮🙏🏼
Thank you so much! Glad I could help!
I always make 3 or 4 workshops. Ypu can research multiple things per day that way and get things started so much faster.
I personally did not agree with a lot of your choices. Removing gathering posts is such a waste of time when you could build coal thumpers near them instead. Also you should have had multiple scouts sent out and wasted their time less. You can find so many people and steam cores ect with scouts. If you have the choice you should only send them back to the city when they have atleast 2 steam cores
A-Tom-uh-ton
I don’t know why people pronounce it automation. I’m very aware it’s a nitpick but it bothers me so much.
Just finished, extremely helpful guide, definitely recommend every new player this video early on.
Just got this game as it was on offer thanks for the vid you gained a sub
Wheres part 2. I know im 5 years late on frost punk but your tutorial was very helpful
If you want to see more Frostpunkt with commentary to learn something, watch this
ruclips.net/video/Nxl6IdxC2u4/видео.html
Awesome video thank you for the help!
wood is gold, coal is air.
Emergency Shift should be the first thing you do. You get one chance to not kill anyone with it, but it must be done early.
Child labor is key
Depends on your chosen difficulty, the scenarios, build order, and strategy. I've done A New Home on Hard, Shelters, Research Apprentices, Order, Hunters, Coal Mine, Wall Drills. First Tech was the Tier 1 to rush the Wall Drill, I dont use Sawmill. You eventually overflow with manpower.
great video thanks. helped my started up
Where is my part 2 my guy this has been so helpful
So I’m watching this after finishing my second play through, where my entire civilization collapsed on day 18. It went from a paradise to absolute anarchy in days.
Great tutorial super helpful !
11 mins in I was like man this guy is non stop not even stopping for a breath (notices video playing at 1.25x speed) 😂 thanks for guide. Very helpful
Where is part 2.
Why it looks blurry?
Great tutorial dude!
do the workers automatically stop working at night or do you have to manually remove them from the gathering posts and stuff??
When Will you make part two?
How do you have a generator in the beginning of the game?
Where is part 2,3,4¿¿??
Dude, the gathering post in my game cant gather coal. I have to wait to research the thumper and by the time I get it im exiled. How do you get the generator on so early in the game?
I have this for PS4. I don’t even know how to select things with my cursor and when I’m understock piles, it won’t let me change anything. Ugh
Hunters will get sick if in the hunting huts during the big storms. The can't leave so they just hang out in that ice cold building. I was wondering why I was getting waves of sick and deaths despite having max heat, insulation, and house upgrades. And enough infirmaries run by automatons that if my whole city got sick they'd likely have a bed. Multiple games of this sick/death waves until I decided to remove workers from hunters huts. Almost no sick and no deaths from the sick. Yeah the storm is supposed to hit you hard but with the upgrades I had I shouldn't have had so many many sick and dead at once.
I just bught the game. Its so much new stuff I´m not used to it. This helped me
Where is part 2?
Should “Fast Gathering” be first as the first thing you research? It is beneficial to research it early. No?
It's only 10% increase. Beacon always first, then it's a good idea what you said
Nice timing i just bought frostpunk goty edition
Need a part 2 asap
Pleeease do a second part, we need these
I got lucky for day six and now I have three days worth of food.
(Also I'm pretty sure you forgot to select the soup in the cooker and have been cooking the normal meals that make 4 rations instead of the soup 5 rations)
part 2?
DUDE where is part 2???
The difficulty is the key. Everyone can play in easy difficulty.
part 2 anytime this year please u-u
twice i failed RIGHT before the end. First time i got banished and 2nd time i left overdrive on, that was painful
The sad part is amerca/ the states do get -20f sometimes just as we get +115f during summer in some places. 😮
so idk what version this is but in the very beggining when I put a workers thing down it doesn't automatically start collecting unless it has a road im on 1.60
every buiding will need a roadconnection. only on piles they dont need a road to operate emediatly.
Okay, something weird must be going on with mine because whenever I try to build the two resource depots, all of my workers run over to the wood depot- they don't split up like they do in yours so at the end of the first day, I've only gathered 178 coal AT MOST.
Could it be a glitch or am i doing something wrong? (I'm playing medium difficulty)
Same here! Maybe they gather to the most critically needed resources or wood is a priority 🤷
Game is literalt freaking brutal. Early game you have to immedately do alot of stuff
What?? No part 2?
Waiting for Frostpunk 2 ! :)
They say Rome wasn't built in a day. You would think these people wouldn't be so needed. They're seeing progress being done. It isn't like nothing being done. Discontent shouldn't be so easily gotten.
If U were sleeping in -20 a day U would want at least a tent
this game feels like a full time job.
Still waiting on pt2
Is this similar to Command & Conquer?
RTS game play is the best.
We need a part 2
Nice one
Where part 2😮
Thankyou
Loving this guide buddy! Many thanks for all your work. Any chance I can be cheeky and ask if you could add a TL:DR bullet point list too? Would be nice to have your suggestions/guide laid out in an easy to read fashion. I'm only half-way through but loving it!! I'm subbed in for part 2 :D
- Gather (Use Gathering Outposts)
- Keep Generator off during day if Temp is >-30°
- Workshop ASAP (always keep engineers inventing stuff as you see fit - don't ignore resource tab, otherwise you'll be screwed when you run out of gatherable materials)
- Laws ASAP (good ones)
- Medics will be needed
- Prioritze coal and wood
- Beacon and Hunters (As far from generator as possible)
- Always keep scouts on the move
- Make Gathering Machines (saw mill, steel mill etc. PS Dont be an idiot like me and think of building a saw mill only after you ran out of gatherable wood to build said saw mill with)
- One kitchen should be good for a while, only put workers if there's raw food available. Kitchen crew really is only a part time gig if you think about it.
- More hunters
Too lazy/busy to keep going, that's me going off the dome from what I did/should've done. It coincides with the videos guide though. Great minds think alike. Story mode gets tricky with the Londoners but on my second try I managed to not have any of them leave the settlement. Remember the different religious buildings have Active Skills you need to click on as soon as they're available, that's what I didn't realize when playing the first time around, which made the number of londoners only increase.
Die Unter-Eine-Stunde-Crew
Lets go
video so good, immediete subscribe.
Get those ReeZoorses 😂
game is like dark souls level man tf. I can't survive past where you choose order/ religion
Still waiting for pt 2🥲🥲
Tried this strat, but it didn’t work at all for me.
Though I will say that tgere are still some great tips in this video, just not when it comes to housing.
part 2 please!!
Available on iphone now 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
go order path pls
I'm commenting while watching, you have a major mistake when it come to Child Shelters.
When you talk about Child Shelters and them becoming Medical or Research Apprentices, you make sound like the kids become Engineers. Which is incorrect, you even say it twice. The game takes place within a few days (at most 45 days in A New Home, or 100+ days in Endless Mode). The children just become helpers, they boost medical by 30% or tech research by 30% depending on which law is chosen. Medic is more useful as its always useful, there will always be sick people, the only other way to boost medical is techs for the respective buildings 10% for Med Posts and 15% for Infirmaries, and the 20% from Organ Transplant Law (applies even without corpses in the Snow Pit). Research can be boosted with more Workshops, the only time I've gone for Child Shelters and Research Apprentices is on A New Home on Hard. The 30% tech boost is a huge life saver on Hard where tech has a slower base speed of research.
This guy you can tell isnt planning long term right from the beginning!! Ive done a few different play throughs all the way. And i prefer to sign child law right away gives you extra workers! Then sign steam vent things. I try and clear the piles as soon as possible! You want to save the first 2 cirkles sround generator imo for the medical and cook house. I only use gather post for coal thunper thats it! Build your houses in a row of 2 4s stacked on top with a row evenly spaced betwen the steam hub will go in middle! But again at least outside of first 2 heating ring areas! The row in middle will be later on when you sign with churse or guards! To help keep the discontent and hope up to put either churches or guard posts! Keeping the medical and food cooker in first heat zone will help people recover faster and later on when temp gets colder make it so you can still cook
I've followed this to ba t and I still got banished.🤦
This is the most ridiculously difficult and horrible game I have ever played. I don't even understand it AFTER watching many tutorials.
Get good
Man you really need to explain how important placing the roads are you completely skipped over all of that
yeah this binned my run hahah
Ehm, are you playng on easy ?
Yeah you didn't show us what you do when you hit under 50 , that's when shit hits the fan.
i finished the game with 60 ppl in total, LOL, over 300+ ppl are died during the winter storm, That was so funny
Not a good walk-through for beginners at all.
Great video! I hope you upload the second part soon.
