I know this video is pretty old but for those who may come across this video may want to do the following. The list goes from cheap to expensive: - Clean sensors and valves (MAF, CCV, PCV) - Check if there's a vacuum leak by either doing a smoke check or thoroughly checking each hose - Check coils and spark plugs which are pretty cheap - Start to replace sensors if any are suspected to be malfunctioning When changing any of the above parts always go for OEM or very near to OEM parts as these are very sensitive electronics. Aftermarket is fine as long as you can be sure it runs well.
I'm having this problem the car is running very rough... to the point where it sounds like a diesel also It has a tick and the car is smoking some blue smoke out of the exhaust. Could that have anything to do with what you explained I your comment?
On my X3 the lurching at idle and weaker acceleration turned out to be the valve covers which go after 100k miles. A garage quoted me $600+. I ordered a new set from an auto supply company, and changed them myself with the help of a RUclips video. I also changed the spark plugs and it solved the issue for $150, total. You need to make sure you tighten the spark plugs to spec and there is a tool for that. Good luck
150$ solved your issues ? Seems like a fat lie and here’s why a valve cover costs up to 1200$ for oem and China made ones are over 200$, and you’ll see how long it lasts you before melting onto your block lol… Spark plugs are atleast another 100$ for 6. And if you want oem there 220$ so where did you come up with 150$ from buddy ?!?? You Must be using junkyard parts because it’s impossible for 150$
I floored my 2007 - 335i twin turbo a few days ago just to see what it could do. Car started vibrating & shaking & the SES light came on. Started it a few times since then but nothing changed, still running rough. I did what Aaron Cortez recommended; "Reset transmission ,due to late gear shifts, by holding down the gas pedal for 40 sec while the key is in and engine off, then drive 20mph for a mile, then I turned the car off & restarted. Like magic it worked, now runs great, the SES light is still on but most likely just needs to be reset. This happened to me on another occasion, gave me a fault code with cylinder 2. Another website said it may be oil on cylinder 2. I took engine cover off, there was oil in spark plug #2 from spilling while putting oil in. I changed all plugs since I was there already. Been running great since. Hope this helps some of you.
Louis Fontaine hey man I just had the same thing happen to me I pulled onto the highway and my service engine light went on and the car starting shaking alittle as I accelerated but after it went away, was this the same thing to happen to yours?
Careful some codes it throws out arent trully what they entend to be. sorry for the fact you spent so much money however the air flow sensor could have possibly been a huge factor. but i know the true problem to the misfires in separate cylinders. it leads to alot of different codes an people pay so much money to fix it and find out it didn't solve the problem. i own a 328i sedan 2011. i had rough idle an shuttering. i tried so many things. i replaced camshaft sensor, solenoids, took it to a friend who had an amazing computer and still it through off so many different codes that had no reason to be there. so i decided one last try or thats it i was gonna trade it in. it happened to be the coils an spark plugs. but before i replaced them it got so bad my car shuttered constantly from 2nd to 3rd gear i would lose power and had no response to throttle. or sometimes the car would die in the middle of the highway. after replacement of the coils and spark plugs, it had another issue with the A/C compressor. Diagnosis on the A/C compressor is loud squeals from the engine that are embarrassing and doesn't go away until car is turned off, as well as weird fluctuating A/C. (This can also cause some shuttering). I replaced that and also reset transmission ,due to late gear shifts, by holding down the gas pedal for 40 sec while the key is in and engine off. then drive 20mph for a mile. (this takes away the late shifting in automatic). Also if you have some extra cash throw some injector cleaner in your car. My car now operates like a champ and has great gas mileage! all of this was 25,000 miles ago. HOPEFULLY YOUR NOT USING UNLEADED! If you want the best out of your BMW give it the best. (Key factor - driving in M/S mode try not to redline) or better yet dont redline even though critics an technicians say you can. It puts alot of stress on the engine and causes things like this to happen. I know by first hand how fun it is to push these cars to their limit but its not so much fun when your wallet is crying. (Official owner of a 2011 BMW 328i Sedan 115,000 miles)
My rough idle on my X5 was due to coil changes. i replaced coils and spark plugs and it went well. The misfire might be the coils. It solved my problem.
I recently adquired a 2005 BMW 525i that when im driving it doesnt matter at what speed im at, the RPM vibrate a little, start going up and down a little bit, it doesnt lose power or anything but this is not right, have some had this same problem with the same car? If so, let me know
when I stop at red light, it shakes like 1 sec then stops shaking, after a while it shakes 1 sec then stops. And I see RPM doesn't go over 1. I don't know whats problem. other than that car works nice. its 2007 328i
My 328i started to have the same issue: the RPM needle shakes and the car vibrates like an earthquake. Has anyone except the owner of this video successful on fixing it?

This is Mis-Information....If you disconnect the MAF sensor as you have done and run the engine , it WILL idle smooth because you force the DME to baseline the Intake Air Temp & Air Flow !!!!

squish T hello i hav same as ur issue . no engine light check but my e60 2008 rpm on idle with or without ac it just plays and if i put on drive it drops low and then back normal like the car will turn off . and hav some shaking while rpm plays
I had an experience with a different make vehicle where normal running [any speed] was fine, but pulling up to a stop had intermittant fits - in my case, the mass air flow sensor was the culprit and it did not trigger check engine light despite vehicle sometimes dying after dropping down to idle in a rough manner. Just prior to that happening, I noticed the engine had a habit of running hot at higher altitudes [above 4k feet]. One mechanic wanted to rebuild the transmission, of course... Your computer may fight managing fuel delivery when the O2 sensor disagrees with MAF numbers: the engine behaves kind of like having a stuck injector, as it fishtails around applying bad data to your fuel curve programming with no success.

you have an air leak at the rear of your vc gasket or at the spark plug wells down the center. check by removing oil fill cap to see if idle changes. it should get worse. also check vent hose from front of vc to oil separator under intake manifold.

guys in my situation with e60 525i 2004 and an e46 325ci it was loose spark plugs. tightened them and did the job on both cars

If the coils do not work or spark plugs do not work cylinder compression could possibly be another factor. usually this only applies to M54 or M3.
