As a high school teen, I got to be one of the ‘76’ trombone players that marched out at the end of this musical…with the San Antonio symphony orchestra behind me. I was so nervous, but 30 years later I still remember the slide positions! 🤣 I’m not into musicals if I’m honest, but man this guy has the voice. Epic performance.
I like the part right after that more but yes, that part's really well done too. ^___^ I like when he talks like an auctioneer/con man/used car salesman all at the same time. Only *some* people can make you feel like you are being *positively* influenced rather than *negatively* influenced when they do that. He's one of them. 😁 He's good at this. 😀
Just realized something interesting. Okay. A really good actor *is* a con man/woman who makes you feel good. Makes you forget your troubles and worries and so on and suchlike while you watch them/listen to them. Go Harold Hill. We need the Harold Hills of this world. ^____^
@@gsjackson34 Well, all right, but still, for a concert this is really pretty good. This isn't the movie, so it doesn't have Robert Preston (I know, darn it, but really who they *do* have is actually pretty good). They did not forget to *mention* Robert Preston at the end. That was nice of them. ^___^ Made famous by Robert Preston. Hear, hear. ^____^
Born and raised in the real River City (Mason City, Iowa). After I caught the Music Directors Band at the 2022 Rose Bowl Parade doing 76 Trombones, I started searching and was surprised to see how far and wide that song has gone. When the movie came out in 1962, the red carpet "Hollywood Premiere" was held in Mason City, with Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, even Ron Howard (he played the kid) came to town, went to the parade, etc.
Yes Charles -- and thank God Willson had the balls to stand up to Warner Bros. brass back in 1961 and give them this ultimatum, according to Shirley Jones who played "Marian Paroo" in the movie: "You will NOT make my movie unless you use Robert Preston in the title role!" ;-)
One thing would make this video significantly better. If the words would just be on the screen *while* he is singing them. I mean the *same* words at the same time. We seem to be just a tad bit out of sync somehow. To the extent that if you want to sing along you are going to have to play the video at least once or twice first. Unless of course you are really really splendid at memorizing or your class just recently did this or something. Or you have performed in the actual play itself within the last couple of years. In any of those cases you will likely *already have* all of the words in your head. If you don't then it's a bit inconvenient. Otherwise very nice video. 😁😀😁
@@Marcel_Audubon- I did that a long time ago. It wasn't as great as its billing. But I appreciate that you expended all 5 of your IQ points making such an impressive observation.
Rami Malek did a great performance of Freddy Mercury but he missed one crucial aspect of Freddy. He didn't feel the music or embody it like Freddy did. He merely was acting like Freddy and mimicking him. While it was a great performance something was missing and I agree with your sentiments here.

That raa ra radadadada raa ra is just excellent I have watched that specific bit about 20 times now and it is even better

every word he sings is crystal clear!
There is no other way to say it this is just pure enjoyment.
Matt Fords voice is wonderful, diction is superb..
Well, quite a bit less volume and resonance than Robert Preston.

I love "The Music Man", and this rendering brought tears to my eyes. Bravo to a great performance!!.....
This was the first movie I saw as an eight year old child. It still reverberates around my head 60 years later!
Glad to hear that it still reverberates. It certainly should. Especially this song. Very reverberating. ^____^
Meredith Wilson would be delighted. This will never grow old.

Gorgeous! Can't keep a dry eye!
I love the lyrics - each bassoon having its big fat say! and all that improvising going on _a full octave higher than the score_ !!
One of the greatest Broadway songs. Meredith Wilson knew how to touch hearts. Just look at "Til There Was You" from the same musical.
Paul McCartney did a great version of Till There Was You
I was there, the whole evening was fantastic!
Lucky
I was at the matinee.
I love how he's smirking like a salesman would!
This guy is very clever and talented.
No he isn't he is just e a fake Yewish shill. They arent even yewish.they are just imposing they are. Just steal of real religiance.
O am from america. So GREAT... Thank you so much. I am awestruck.
:@@frankkleij9149 from which mental institution are you posting?
Just a wonderful is what is to be celebrated music!
So lovely. Tada for you!!!!!!
And they're still marching today . . .
Holy cow! I bet it was fantastic being in the audience that night! "Ye gods!!!!!"
"GREAT HORNY - TOADS!"
:D
(I just HAD to get that one in because of your avatar)
You watch your phraseology!
Awesome
A great talent in front of a great Orchestra (the MV Singers are also outstanding)
Never fails to cheer me up
Fantastic listening
I got it. Music is magic.
Robert Preston was the original Professor Harold Hill
I Love This ‼💥
Magnificent
Thank God we once had this musical artistry and showmanship. In the future we'll only see it in recordings.
Incredible ❤🎼🖤
Superb.
Whos the woman with the curly blonde hair playing the violin, she gets the same seat year in year out, she must be there since day 1!
It's Ruth Rogers - she's utterly amazing www.ruthrogers.net/
@@simonnathan7404 thank you! She doesnt seem to age from year to year.
She is featured on Mike Lovatt's channel on a chat with Mike and Matt Ford where she talked about how John Wilson got her invoved.
She always looks like she’s having a great time. And how could you not, getting to play such beautiful arrangements? ☺️
Ultimate band ,👍😘
The music man is a good movie
Matt Ford had the spirit.
super !
Wow bravo!
Harold Hill is a precinct in Essex.

calm thyself, sweetie
Given 76 Trombones is the title, I genuinely couldn't hear much of the trombone section. But, cracking performance regardless.
See you need 96 horns for get marching, every one loves a parade.
🌹🌹🌹🌲
💗
Mommy...can you play that record once again so I keep marching around the room?
Why are the subtitles so off sync?
To annoy people like you. Mission accomplished!
Why is this your only song /video on RUclips? This is great, but when will there be others posted? 🤔🤗👍
That was a great cover! But, IMHO there's nothing like the original score version. Maybe it's the visuals.
A hunnerd an how many???
How did you get on utube. So great. U
I’ve just hit the 666 likes so does that mean I’m a right little devil.🥰
Robert Preston was better. Not because he was the best singer (he wasn't) but because with every fiber of his being he WAS Professor Harold Hill.
grow up

And not one coloured person?
Missing a new trambone?!
Misses the point.
Ya can sing it. But you're not SELLING it
Muito Blá blá bláp
You need to see the original movie, it is a exact replica to the original actor
He is not into it. He is not enthusiastic enough.
You have to become the character you play.
If not, better leave it.
Tempo is off, voices fall short and a bit too polished.
Critics ....
nah
