Usually I see Caleb and Nott as the most tragic characters in the Nein
But this animatic showing the despair of everyone in the party has opened my heart

I love how you can go from making a hilarious eldritch bleaaeest video to creating a breath taking animatic that really captures the beauty of CritRole.

1:09 I never understood the significance of this frame specifically with Cad. Rewatching since the wrap of campaign 2

That moment when you know exactly what was on Cad and his player's mind throughout the first twenty episodes we have with him. His family, his local ecosystem, his temple, and so much more are in absolute crisis mode and the nine butterflies were subtly telling him to join these "Mighty Nein".
He's in just as bad a shape as anyone else who joined the Mighty Nein early on.
Edit: and the STRAIGHT LINE between Cad's arrow and the dispel magic makes me CRY from narrative tempo my GOD.
The first display is Endgame Caleb- the Archwizard that he knew he could be and that he does become is ripped away from him and the first thing we see him doing since then is studying transmutation. He knows what he isn't and seeks to actively change that- even if he convinces himself that time travel is "the only important thing".
The second display shows us Nott who in it of themselves is the perfect way to leap from Transmutation as a concept. The dynamic is so obvious once the pieces are lined up that Matt had known from day one is incredible to think about. Simply put, Caleb doesn't know how much his Transmutation would mean to everyone around him. Literal and metaphorical take-aways from that are numerous.
Cad takes over the entire rest of the animation afterward, because he takes the idea of "player character doesn't realize how they can change another player character" concept of turning Veth back to a halfling by the Transmutation wizard and dials it to the max by radically changing Fjord and Yasha (literally by dispel magic, as per 'if cad wasn't there they would have likely had to kill her') and by way of changing Yasha thus making sure someone's there for Beau.
Jester's whole segment is a microcosm for the whole video, reminding me of seeing "future caleb" or "the caleb that he was prevented from becoming" over post-fire caleb when she is shown to rapidly adapt *to* change, and lives her life in the past present and future (taking Molly's tattoo retroactively as being a symbol for the entire climax of the campaign's end). Just like everyone else in the first half of the campaign, Jester's life is in chaos but we all know how she feels about chaos. I also feel like it calls out to how Jester was the first person to tell their backstory- sharing their intimate and loving relationship with their mother right off the bat. I'm pretty sure in that same scene she's also having an existential breakdown but still instantly shares a core memory with the party simply because they asked. Jester tumbles through the rabbit hole and lands into poverty and violence. She's riding horses with strangers dealing with nightmares, and she just- like, she literally pogs. I love that. I also love that we see Beau helping her paint and then Beau's reaction to losing Yasha soon after. It makes Jester's scene look like Beau's perspective of Jester as a secondary love before Yasha reciprocated.
Also that's caleb turning into an eagle, right? WIth Beau, which ties the first few scenes to the last for some redundancy before the big fight.
Yo this hits like a truck my dude, great work.
Highlights: cadusus’s big beautiful face, jester’s drowning/dress poof sequence, the frantic clawing on the edge of freakinnout, and nott’s crossbow sequence that just somehow FEELS the same way as someone trying to avoid having a panic attack. Again great work.
i often feel the direction the story and characters took was imperfect, and of course it was no one knew what was going to happen. this animation really embraces how beautiful that is.

I cannot describe how much I am in love with your art. Like maybe you wont take that to heart and think I'm just exaggerating, but wholey cow, dude. I'm in love with how things look half done but you can still tell who's who and your rewatch value is 10 times more than anyone else's because of it

I can't count how many times I've watched this but the detailing so stunning. You notice something new every time. Like this time I just noticed it was jester that beau ran into and not just the group itself (and am I seeing beaujester rights ohhoho). But the amount of work and love that must have went into this is clear. It's truly so lovely

Oh wow, this is amazing! I've watched it like 5 times already and keep noticing even more details!!! My favorite part has be be Fjord's honestly, especially the shot of him from below with the seaweed creeping through his shadow. Sehr wunderbar!!!

Your vision is so great. The introduction of Cad when the melody changed to the softer section of the song. The scene selection from the campaign. You really have a talent and I do not say this lightly. (I'm in the industry). Keep it up and build that portfolio, someone should be paying you to do this stuff. You got the raw version, now refine your residuum.
