- like every project, this took FOR EVER. I was listening to the song and I was so emo over it i had to spend a month making this.
I have a few ideas for my next project. it will be an animatic directly from the stream. this might come out sooner than expected, due to being home more because of... current events.
I am starting to feel super limited by krita, It can't do tweening, i had to split this up into 4 parts, and the audio wouldn't sync properly, also it crashes a lot. if anybody has a better alternitive, I would gladly take it.
if you read warrior cats in middle school, or ever, i'd highly suggest watching nifty-senpai's AMV of the same song. it was maybe one of the most formative pieces of (fan made) media I have ever viewed.

That scene with the water and desperately swimming to the Mistake was like a slap to the face of realizing how that must have felt for Cad. His family gradually leaving him, he finally decides to leave as well and finds the M9 and then almost gets left behind again... damn...

it literally made my jaw drop at the idea of the desperation he must have felt trying not to get left behind a full-ass continent away from home, on the run from the law, almost losing the only people outside his family who know him and can help him. fuck man. that fucked me up.
Uggggh the feeling of Cad chasing after the boat to not be left behind AGAIN. AND THIS TIME HE ACTUALLY GOES TO IT!!!AHHHH
A thing a lot of people forget due to how kind and wise Cad is; his whole family slowly left to do their duty, and he waited around a decade alone in the woods in the same place for them to come back. Before he rejoined and restored his family he had possibly one of the most depressing backstories of the Mighty Nein.
Being alone for a decade is definitely sad, but it's not really the same level of torment as a certain person's 11 year "nap."
@@carlotta4th listen. They’re different kinds of sad. Caleb’s stint in the sanatorium is horrifying and heartbreaking, not a single doubt about it, but sitting alone, waiting for the family that left you to come back home, not knowing if they’re even still alive… a decade of complete solitude, where you slowly sink into desperation (and he was, caduceus was very much sinking into despair, the kind that makes you reckless and doesn’t let you take care of yourself and turns you self-destructive)… that’s also pretty damn horrific.
Nott lost her family and had her very identity shattered
i love how its clear in the video that cad's "whats best for me" is the nein. He doesnt want to go back to the garden he was isolated in his whole life, he wants to stay with these new people, the ones that saved him and will never leave him alone. His friends, his new family.

Interesting take on Caduceus's thoughts leading up to now, especially focusing on how he waited at the grove and how he swam after the boat when they first boarded the Mistake
I've not heard the song before but it was so powerful. Choked up a bit seeing Cad struggling to get to the boat in the water so he wouldn't be left behind again. Wonderful video!

God,,, the scene with caduceus furiously swimming back to the boat is so well done. It’s so panicked and chaotic, which shows how cad felt when it was happening. Your animation of the water was also amazing, water is so hard to draw ;; all in all, great job!!!
The first stream I ever caught live was Mollymauk's death. He was my favorite of the Mighty Nein, and I really didn't know how to feel about Cadeuceus. The story took on a much more somber tone without the purple peacock circus man, and to me it felt like the M9 had lost their heart. It took a long time for me to see Cad as the backbone and moral guide to the party, as well as the one to lead Fjord away from Uko'toa, but I still wasn't sure about him. I have to say, though, that with the most recent episodes and this AMV, he's really grown on me (like a fungus) and reaffirmed just how much I enjoy Taliesin's characters (Percy was my favorite in VM).
TL;DR: Thank you for making this AMV for the best pastel cow goth.
I felt much the same until I realized Mollymauk was the one who set them up as a party and insured there survival by getting them stuff like tents and teaching them valuable lessons like how to get a bargain and to only steal from “grumpy people”. After he showed them what he needed to he left it up to Cadeuceus to protect them.

Kinda similar for me. Molly was my absolute fave. However caddy is what got me into the fandom in the first place. I just kept seeing art and i had to look into it so when I fell in love with molly as a character caddy was still in the second place. Then molly died and I learned that caddy was his replacement essentially.
This is absolutely perfect! The scene where caduceus got older as he was sitting in the grove broke my heart, poor boy
Seeing the title of this I didn't think the song would fit Caduceus' character at all. When I think of Cad I think of a person who is at peace, someone who doesn't worry about much and usually has things in control, but you've shown to me how much depth he has. I've always loved Caduceus but he still seems quite distant from the group, not quite as tight knit as the rest of them, despite how much time they've spent together. After watching this I think I've found a new appreciation for him and all he's gone through. I don't see a character who has it all under control anymore, I see a character recovering from his own traumas, someone who feels like he has to act as though its under control or he'll lose it all, and I love him more for it because now I can relate to him more. Thank you.
Cad's story is all about faith and his struggles to hold onto it when all seems lost. Fighting his own fears and helping others struggle through theirs is his whole shtick and makes him perfect to be both at peace and afraid at the same time
THAT WAS SO UPSETTING watching Cad get older and sadder and more gaunt as time went by. And just in general this is a character that we NEVER see with negative emotions and this digs into a side of him that I think gets ignored too much. He is a man made out of trauma just as much as rest of the Nein, as this vid makes abundantly clear. This was just so incredible and heart-wrenching, thank you for makingit

What I love about the fan content aspect, is you can draw as loose of an interpretation of an area as your skills allow, and we will be able to fill in the space with our imaginations. We all know what Cad's garden is. A million artists can draw completely different depictions, but none will suffer from an audience incapable of following you.
This is why I love drawing with my stories. I don't have to get it all rigt, because its just a companion piece to my literature.

I loved the music and how you interpreted certain things. Yasha as the "burning rose" is a beautiful visual in my head, perfectly fitting. I also was moved by the montage of an aging caduceus in the grove. Outstanding work, thank you and is it Thursday yet?

When Cad ran to get to the boat, fighting against the waves. Know more of his story now let me tell you I tiered up. I’m slowly starting to identify with this sad boy the more we learn about him.
You know, I wasn't really over Molly's death at the time and wasn't really invested in Caduceus yet, but looking back, that scene where he was left on the dock, with the Nein taking the Mist away really hurts. Cad spent his whole existence in the Blooming Grove, he saw his parents and siblings leaving one after the other to heal his home and none of them came back, and he was left alone, in his decaying graveyard. The day the Nein arrived, he jumped at the occasion to leave, seeing them as a sign from the Wildmother that it was time for him, but really, it was an excuse, he just didn't want to stay there anymore, he couldn't. And after a few weeks together, he got abandoned on this dock.
I know they didn't meant to do that and the situation was out of their control, but I feel so bad for Cad when I think how hurt he must have felt. Left alone once more.
Cad looking more and more gaunt as he waits and the swimming scene got me right in the feels ,
Yasha as a burning rose. My HEART. This was beautiful. And to reiterate all the other comments: the scene with Cad chasing after the boat is so emotional. It was glossed over on stream a bit, but this captures the weight of that moment exceptionally.

This is so sweet! I always used to imagine Percy's story while listening to this song and was bummed I couldn't draw it. You did a fantastic job, nice to see Cads getting some emotional attention in this way.

Little Pistols is one of my favorite Mother Mother songs, And though I heard the words, I didn't often understand them. I was like "huh... nice words, but I don't get the song" . Though I didn't understand the song fully, I was very sure when I clicked on this video that it was NOT a good song for Cad here. Then it was the last two pictures, where it A L L clicked for me. The song, the meaning, the emotions, his own emotions, the song... all of it.
It's starting with fear, abandonment, desire to grow, desire to learn, being held back by your fear, finding something to hold onto, finding something to understand, acceptance and comfort... and no more fear. Cad has always been calm but he's been scared and he's been through hell and back and even through his crisis it was his friends who helped him and saved him as much as he helped and saved them. So I guess, thank you for helping me find meaning and understanding in one of my favorite songs and also gifting us this very, very unique animatic centered on a man who's journey was always so hard but we hardly understood that until recent events.

i watched this video yesterday and i can't tell you how many times i've listened to Little Pistol in the last 24 hours, i'd never heard it before but it's probably my new favorite song!
also, man i always found caduceus getting left behind on the docks pretty sad... but oh boy somehow i never thought about it in the context of his backstory before. like his whole tragic backstory is him getting left behind, and then he gets left on the docks by his new friends... yeah that breakdown in the next episode was totally warranted! 10/10 amazing animatic

Oh wow this was really great! It was a wonderful look into Cad's past and I really liked how you have the Mighty Nein be his "imperfections" with his "garden". Super poetic!

whenever i watch this, the chorus hits and electricity crawls to the nape of my spine and tears suddenly well up on my eyes. Like a wave, so suddenly. Im pretty stoic most of the time but something about the visuals paired with the song, i can't describe it.
This is wonderful. I love Caduceus because he is able to make me irritated and love him all the same. His assertions that everything happens for a reason and that fate is already written, would make me angry and yet other times they would give me comfort. I get a whole myriad of emotions from him and that is what makes him so real to me.
Just want to that this is what plays on my head when I listen to Little Pistol and it almost always makes me cry because I think of Caduceus. Thank you for this!!!!

also for alternatives, Opentoonz is free and my favorite! it's mostly for scanning in traditional drawings and the learning curve is steep as hell, but it's pretty fast/doesn't crash for me. It loads audio and does tweening, but it does get frequent updates, so it's best to make a copy of the projects file before you update just in case (i haven't had the problem of them being lost but i've heard of others so maybe)

Cad has always been a character I felt and related to... My mother named me Jade. I am a stone... I do not move unless I'm picked up and carried. But even then it is hard because a rock is not ment to move it is ment to stay in one place. To wait and watch as everything else around it buzzes. I'm a rock not a seed.

I love how the whole 'in the way' part transitions over to Caduceus and the sequence for "I want brimstone...." is done SO WELL, all the funky angles and how it straighten's out with "I want what's best for me..." Also caduceus is just drawn so welll in all those shots

I've always loved this song but I never really realized what it was talking about. But now seeing this it makes me approach it in a whole new light. That as well as Caduceus. He puts his own feelings so far away but he really does yearn to be apart of something and seen as more than just a mentor or younger sibling. This is beautifully done.

Cad really was a wise healer living in the woods and tending to his god when a crew of broken people fell into his life and he made it his entire life purpose to fix those people. Not all heroes have grand missions to slay mighty dragons and save the kingdoms, sometimes they exist only to heal the hearts and minds of 8 weary strangers
God the emotion behind this is so good. I love the expressions and just the little details that bring it to life.
