    Interesting difference:
When you trap yourself in portal 1, glados might say something a little passive aggressive, but she immediately opens the door, meaning the test is over.
In portal 2, she doesn’t just open the door. Instead, she offers some childish insults, and gives you a cube, or whatever you need to get immediately unstuck. But you still have to finish the test. She’s purposefully making your life harder.
Even the little ways she responds to your actions are meant to show her significantly worsened mood. I love this series.

    • @oddleyenuff
      @oddleyenuff Год назад +93

It may or may not have something to do with the slight change in her personality after removing her morality core and or forcing her to watch the final 2 minute replay for just less than 30,000 years or more after you killed her. Therefore the least bit of revenge she can get whilst fulfilling her duties as test supervisor and manager is to make you learn from your foolish mistakes and choices by having you complete it yourself anyway. Whether or not this is true or if it’s just a minor change the developers made to the game for the sake of learning and progressive testing, it’s a good way to have you do the actual work.

I mentioned this in another reply comment, but I did the math a while back. If you add up the days you’ve been suspended for, (the announcer tells you when you wake up the second time, it’s also in the track name in the ost) or all the nines, then you have a total of 29,761 years, 10 months, 3 weeks, and 2 days in suspension. And that’s only guessing there weren’t any more nines in that list, it could be a *lot* longer. No wonder we have brain damage!
Then acknowledging the fact that she mentioned she has a sort of black box recording featuring a replay of the final 2 minutes before her “death”- that she’s had to watch the entire time you’ve been sleeping for, I think it’s safe to say some of it is definitely personal.

I honestly love games that add stuff for doing things you aren’t supposed to. Like the devs realized you could get softlocked in some puzzles and added unique dialogue and events for Glados if that happened. But the fact they even missed some like 12 makes me think they actually were thinking about if it was possible with every level in the game or one of the playtesters was trying to mess with Valve.
Either way its really cool because for a players prospective it seems like insane intention to detail but from a devs prospective they need to usually add a fail condition and would be thinking about it. (This isnt one of those times though)

For the deer chamber, chapter 3 lvl 10, there was an especially memorable moment where I figured out how to get the cubes to the top level without Glados realizing that I was trapped, I felt like I outsmarted the game devs at the time lol. other ways to trap yourself:
i bought portal obviously but when i was a kid i used to play a pirated version, and in chamber 5(04 in the video) when i placed a camera between the doors it did the same thing, saying 'youre not a good person' and keeping the door open. weird.
chamber 9, i think you can use the speedrun tactic of placing the portal right under the door when its open, closing it, and using the portal to get over the door. you can move the cube to behind the exit door when its still closed.
chamber 13, you can trap yourself in the starting room by removing all the cubes to the other room and trapping yourself.
im not sure about chamber 14, with opening the door with cube and portaling to get rid of the cube. i remember game breaking the button to keep the door open or so when you do that.
chamber 16. moving/getting rid of all the objects that can open the button, maybe.
chamber 17. not exactly a trapping, because glados doesnt even mention that you locked yourself, but you can put the companion cube on the ledge like how the vid goes in chamber 14(4:24). when you go back to the cube dropper it gives you another one and the lost one is gone though.
when there is a door that is opened by a button, and you cant use portals to trap the cube inside it:
use a different object(especially radio) to make cube lean towards the door, and open the door by standing on the button and make the cube trip over towards where you cant reach.
    works in chamber 0, 1, 4, 5, 9, 12, 14, 18
not 13(you need one more cube to open the door, but if theres a cube you can escape anyway)
or use an object to keep the door stuck and shoot the portal through the gap, move the cube through it so you cant get it back.
    works in chamber 5, 12, 13, 18
cant softlock in 17 with both of these solutions, you can stand on the button and portal to the exit.
(the video has easier softlocking for 12 and 13 though, with portal)

Test chamber 14 can still be beaten, even without touching the cube. Simply, put one portal in front of the elevator, walk up the moving stairs, wait for them to fall back down, and put a second portal down on the floor. In Glados' words, "Fling yourself" and land on the elevator. And now you can walk to the elevator to next test chamber
