Back when I was a kid, I was so obsessed with tic-tac-toe that I wrote every possible moves in a notebook. So if I am unsure of what to do, I would consult my notebook.
When you figured it out, you don't need to consult the book but still it is great idea for evaluate a small complexity game ofc cannot be done for chess
Just wanted to say thank you sharing your relationship with your child it's heart warming to watch she seems like a great kid with a very loving father. Keep up the good work look forward to your videos thank you.
5:28 At this point, Brian already has a winning position. Because there is no way to block both the middle column (vertical) and the diagonal from the lower left to the upper right corner. The only way to get the prediction right at that point would be to deliberately not win, and that might look suspicious.
A bit of doodling in paint and found, 16 possible outcomes, due to choices of the second player, 4 upright, 4 upside down 4 to the left and 4 to the right.
People usually dont realize how simple the game is, in highschool I used to bet against everyone saying: playing against me cost you a quarter but if you win I will give you 100 dollars, ¡There were queues to play against me!
Over two years later and I just spent an hour figuring out what I used to know as a kid. Remembered the strategy I always used to nearly always win. I believe if my math is right, if P1 plays with perfect logic, they have a 91.625% chance for a win. Seven out of eight openings are guaranteed wins, only one opening is different, with 2/3 tie 1/3 win possibility. Doesn’t really do the trick of predicting the outcome, but, at least I’d win all the money in the world right… 😂 Wild how such a simple game can make you think so much.
At 5:49 Brian could have won easily even though if she played correctly as there are two positions which would result in win. So in that case do we purposefully draw for the reveal part ?
She should've been more attentive and blocked the turn before that... that's why the lesson of that round was that the opponent has to play to win or the effect is ruined.
Ya, my man was not paying attention to the wins. He could have won at 5:25. Also in the last round he blocked her and didn't realize for like a minute that he had to play that spot.
my friend calls this the yin yang tie. we played it a lot with checker pieces. and u end up with 2 L shapes. BWBB and WBWW as in White and Black. and it makes a weird yin yang shape :D
I solved tic tac toe in 6th grade snack time because I had no friends, I was so happy when Brian said, NO you have to control it! iirc there are 4 cat's games and two of them have o in the middle and are symetrical the other two are the right and left hand versions of oxo oxx xox. of course it was a long time ago and it was mostly brute force so there may be a hidden next level game I couldn't find.
Oooh I predicted that you would predict a tie but not the rest. You might have already done a vid on it, but I bet at a bar, this would be more impressive if you had the other person try first - something to prove that this isn't how every tied tic-tac-toe board looks, like Josie and I both thought.
The board at 5.29 is a 100% win for Brian (the move before the wrong move of her). So that should defeat the system :/ But at least you have all the money in the world
That's because Josie had already messed up by not playing to win a turn before Brian caught it. But Brian was so busy forcing his prediction that he forgot to win.
if she thinks this is impressive, wait till she sees the tic tac toe prediction where the answer is the 15 of diamonds "The Tic-Tac-WHOA Prediction!" - Aug 16, 2017 Yeah, i've been subscribed a while
It's interesting to see the evolution of a person going from not very familiar with puzzles and tricks to learning various methods and ways of thinking. Seems like new concepts are starting to click for her much faster and I bet pretty soon she's going to start figuring them out on her own. Idk anything about Brian's family but if there's not a younger sibling, he better start planning for that scenario!
I already know all of them... I can tell if you choose the block other than corners i bet you would loose to me and there is a 50% of chance that you would we beaten if you choose the corner ones...
Well, if you weren't putting any money up, then you would only stand to gain if the other person makes a mistake, so there's no reason not to try. So, when performing the trick, don't make them think its a two-way bet; just say there is a reward for winning.
I think if you use transparent paper (or plastic), maybe inside of an envelope, you can predict every game without forcing anything as long as you open in the center. There are four lines trough the center, since X has to play 4 additional times after opening, and having two in the same line would win the game there has to be exactly one X on each of the lines. And no three adjacent lines can have the X on the same side, because that also wins the game, so they have to alternate and then alternate in reverse. Which means that trough rotation and reflection, all outcomes are identical.
I can’t wait till Brian gets a haircut because Brian with hat on looks like he’s got mullet and I’m from the south and I can say that looks good on no one
Who knew a decade ago, that the spikey haired hipster magician would do some of his best work with his teen daughter.
These episodes with Josie just get better and better

@@David_Miller-RUclips I recall writing every permutation and it only filled out six pages of my notebook.
Now, thanks to VSauce, we know a book for this

"and also my prediction's there, don't look at it" love how halfarsed Josie sounds 😂
Brian: "I win all the money in the world then"
Josie: "Oh, we are good then."
😂😂😂👍
BEST Channel on RUclips. Following for years and always entertaining.
OXO OXX XOX has came to mind every single time I've seen tic tac toe since the original episode aired!
Dude me too!!!
Pro tip: Use a square piece of paper and the orientation will always look perfect.
I remember this video from like 5 years ago or something.
Yeah, he is teaching his daughter everything he knows
This video was first made 10 years ago
The algorithm is great for learning, but after a bit it's not necessary. That said, this hits a bit stronger in person than you might think.
I've been watching and sharing since the hair-gel days. Josie isn't just cuter.
Scam school yeah yeah.... I’ve been brainwashed
That was the reason, I created a RUclips account in 2008, so I could subscribe and never miss a video 😉
Lol for some reason they have been popping up on my recommendations again and I'm loving it.

To win with prediction even if the opponent looses the game, it should go like: my prediction is -> I win -> by predicting a tie
Long time fan this is one of my favorite tricks I have learned from you
I remember this trick from a video years ago! Time flies!
Dude same
I just watched the old version of this the other day... how weird.
I wish i still had the optimism of the world Josie has. "No-one could be that dumb"...
👍🏻
Great when playing against a kiddo, especially one's own, less so when playing against a large drunk at a bar.
A bit of doodling in paint and found,
16 possible outcomes, due to choices of the second player,
4 upright, 4 upside down
4 to the left and 4 to the right.
Love this...

FTW 😁👍
This a really cool trick that now that I think about it, this could be done on stage with a wight board and a big envelope prediction.
People usually dont realize how simple the game is, in highschool I used to bet against everyone saying: playing against me cost you a quarter but if you win I will give you 100 dollars, ¡There were queues to play against me!
better to use square sticky notes?
Umm am I going crazy or was the video before this in the playlist from Ryan George getting 1M subscribers? So out of he blue lmao
So in a way you could force a tie all the time. But what if the other person goes first? Or what if other person wants x?

Figured this out as a kid playing against myself. I was the only worthy opponent
You can modify this to always win so if you to win, just reframe this video and slightly adjust the advice to result in a nearly perfect win ratio
At 5:49 Brian could have won easily even though if she played correctly as there are two positions which would result in win. So in that case do we purposefully draw for the reveal part ?

1:08 I'm not sure your daughter fully understands the point of tic-tac-toe...
I mean it wouldn't have changed the outcome at all

If you want a better experience, play to lose. Makes this game more interesting.

what if your opponent sucks at tic tac toe lmao

I already know all of them... I can tell if you choose the block other than corners i bet you would loose to me and there is a 50% of chance that you would we beaten if you choose the corner ones...
Wait,it's actually possible to lose at tic tac toe while starting from the middle/corners?
@@92sieghart yes
@@charanjeetsingh3482 just searched,it's a 0 sum game, meaning you can't lose or win if both knows how to play well.
I would never agree to go second in tic-tac-toe if money is at stake (although I would never actually lose)

I would have been that ass that lost on purpose.
Josie episodes are some of my fsvorites.
The ModernRogue link unfortunately doesn't take you to this video
Yeah. You can't link across channels, and if I publish it on that feed, the locals get riled up. -Brian
But everyone knows that whoever starts first will be having a chance to win. I wouldnt even put a bet if I couldnt make the first move
Is Josie taller than you now?
Do an episode of morse code
Wouldn’t you prefer a nice game of chess?
Its so AGGRAVATING watching people play tic tac toe when I know how to win 100% of the time no tie.
Such a lucky daughter!
