I’ve just found your channel and I am loving everything I’m learning from you! You are so talented and I appreciate you sharing your expertise with all of us out here in Internet land. Learning from you from Wisconsin, USA.
Hi Ruth thanks for a great advent series and have a great Christmas. We were so sorry for the loss of your dog. We lost our Great Dane also this earlier year. Take care David up in Scotland.
Wow! Once again a huge thank you for the pleasure you have brought, and for all your hard work, I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas time, look forward to seeing more amazing videos in the new year. Oh yea, my fave? Think it would have to be the cherub, thanks again.

Hi Ruth, it's been nearly a year since you posted your fabulous Christmas series. It was one of the best things I have seen on RUclips...but we haven't heard from you since. I'm sure it's because you've been incredibly busy professionally!....but I am hoping we hear from you again. Your 2022 series of Christmas videos was absolutely wonderful and I've just watched them all again but here's hoping we hear from you soon. Warm regards.
Nice ornament! A little odd but cool! I really enjoyed the Robin (and the patience that went into that!) but the whole project was just marvellous! Thank you so much for doing these Videos and giving an insight into your craft! Merry Christmas from Germany 🌟🎄
Merry Christmas Ruth, I’ve ended up watching this video a bit late. I’ve really looked forward to these videos every day and they’ve been a highlight of December. I’m so impressed you’ve managed to commit to this every day and come up with new and creative ideas. What a beautiful tree you’ve ended up with as a result. 🙏🏼
It's all appreciated. Many years ago, in the far east, i can remember seeing gold leaf being made by hand, with hammers. What was interesting is they were using a clepsydra or water clock to partition out the time to beat. I did a quick google and the wikipedia page for a Water Clock has the same place, using the same clock, for beating out the gold. [Do a google, YT doesn't like links]. So the question, which one is my favourite? Hard to say, bt the Cherub blowing the horn, blue background, the robin, the pineable I think are my top 3.
I've watch videos of the Italians beating the gold will have to look up the far east ones. Have you seen the Japanese gilders picking the gold up with sticks 😮 Merry Christmas and a happy New year, thanks for watching. 😁🎄
@@RuthTappinGilder I'll have to look at the chopsticks bit. Kintsugi interests me. That might be a videoo idea. I also love japanese gold/siver and lacquer. Maki-e is the japanese name.
The uniqueness of the walnut sail boats was a favorite. Also, I'm thinking of truing my hand at gilding a handprint made by my son as a pre-schooler. Sending you good wishes for a healthy and happy Christmas and New Year. Thank you for this amazing daily treat! I look forward to all your videos, your work is an inspiration. Cheers!
Beautiful again! ❤Thank you Ruth! It's been very interesting and entertaining too. Merry Christmas to you too and a very Happy New Year! PS Loved the snow man ☃
I truly appreciate all your effort in this creative endeavor. It’s definitely been a gift to me and something I’ve looked forward to every day. It seems I discovered you in the Nick of time. My favorite is the punched star. It is simply elegant, and is an ornament that has, in my opinion, timeless beauty. Perhaps you could do one last video that features one at a time, so we can savour them all. Heartfelt thanks. Have a lovely Christmas. 💝
Merry Christmas! All the ornaments have turned out lovely. Your skill just blows me away. I’ve really enjoyed watching you try new techniques and learning along with you.
You’ve done it 🤗 It’s been wonderful watching you create such lovely treasures over the past few weeks. Merry Christmas and much love for next year from Australia ❤️🦘❤️
Hi Ruth, thank you for all the work and the wonderful gift you have given us! It was nice to see so many different techniques!! My favorites are perhaps the stencil, the Luna's frame, sgraffito and the robin...I forgot, also the decoration with the crystal drops and the one with the Japanese technique. I'm glad you also used a colored metallic leaf, I've been wanting to ask you for a while which type of mission was the most suitable for making it adhere to the surface. Do you have a book to recommend on different frame decoration techniques? I knew many of the techniques you used and some I didn't, I'd like to be able to deepen them in these holidays. In general I like to use different art techniques! Thanks again!! Many heartfelt wishes for happy holidays, a merry Christmas and a happy new year😊🎄🎄🎄💫, Manuela
I'm thinking of doing a video on some of the gilding books I have. Not many go in-depth though. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Merry Christmas to you and a happy New year. 😁🎄
@@RuthTappinGilder Hello, Wonderful idea, very useful and interesting given the current lack of titles, now something is found in articles in specialized restoration magazines or in doctoral theses, in addition to classics such as the art book you showed us or in general those published by Nardini Editore. Can't wait to read it, thanks again for the great videos! They have been a beautiful journey between gilding techniques and artistic techniques. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you 🎄🎄💫😁
Thank you. My back needed a break from video editing. I've been thinking about what to do next. If I can make it interesting, may be what it's like to do my job.
@@RuthTappinGilder Sorry to hear about your back. Anything you make will be welcomed. Personally, I would enjoy you telling the history of gilding, perhaps with examples. Take care.
@@RuthTappinGilder I am a painter. I did a small-- tempera course, but I didn't have time for the course that starts today, which includes gilding, at the school of traditional art. I live far away - Israel. And you are very interesting to learn from do you make corses too ?
@@RuthTappinGilder You come across really, really well. Amazing that Karen found a £40 mirror and your work made it worth up to £5,000. I love the way you explain the history of paints, glues etc, which are all part of the gilding process. It is important to use the correct materials. This is my favourite programme on TV. I shall sit and enjoy this all afternoon. The horse is another fabulous project.
Merry Christmas! You were on The Restorers earlier this week. I think you restored a concave mirror. You explained paint (and possibly glue) from the 18th century. Do you know what episode that was. Many thanks.
I'm planning to make some full teaching videos start to finish which will include aging gilding to match the original gold. They should be available this year 🤞.

Loose leaf is loose in the book its best for decoration/texture, used with oil and water gilding. Transfer is on bits of tissue paper best for flat /smooth areas, only for oil gilding. I use both types in the oil gilding video. Hope that helps. 😁
Missing more content....pls come back.... cheers
love your work, video great, speaking well and clear for me hard of hearing. thank you.
BEST THING EVER!
Thanks so much for all of this
Very nice, long time you didn't post new videos, hope you're doing good. You deserve more likes and more followers simply the Best ❤
