Loved the idea of recycling the gilding paper. Irritates me how people use the word "upcycle" for everything, but I think that is definitely an apropos use of the word upcycle. Smart way of saving all of that gilding. Waste not, want not.
I love the way you lit this when showing the finished ornament. I just bought some Webb Telescope postage stamps today, and this piece made me think of some of the amazing Webb images.
Ooo! I must try the Instacoll thing. Do you know if it's possible to tool it after? You know, sort of decorate it with stamping and incising? (Important for iconography.)
(Sorry if you are starting to feel like I'm stalking you with these constant questions, it's just that I'm in the middle of a big project/commission and I've been working through the gilding phase at just the moment you're doing these very useful videos.)
Yes 23.5ct is gold leaf. 24ct is pure gold. Then as you drop down the carat other metals are added but it's still classed as gold. Metal leaf has no gold content it's just metal. You can use any leaf for gilding, oil or water gilding. Although gold leaf works best for water gilding.
Another great idea!
Stunning!! Thank you
So pretty - I really had no idea what the finished result was going to be until the final reveal.
Loved the hoover trick too - genius
Beautiful

Was that specialized water you added to the fish glue?
Just tap water 😁

Not tried that but don't see why not.
Is 23.5 gold leaf real gold? Sorry i did not understand whether oil sizing can use real gold leave or only for metal leaf. Thanks.
