When my wife had her 97 Grand Cherokee, "intermittently," the ABS light would come on, I can't remember the code now, erase the code, it took time to come back. I remember testing the pump motor for excessive current draw, even posting it on iATN. I did replace the module, it seems like most 12 volt motors, the in-rush current was a little high, according to the scope, but the motor had no problems. I could only think the module couldn't handle the current, because the new module had no problems and years later when she got rid of the vehicle the ABS still worked! Go figure! Great 2 for 1 Video!
I owe you some ice cream or something. I had a 2009 Routan (aka a rebadged Caravan) with C2200. Since no body rebuilds these modules and I had nothing to lose I took mine off and split it along the mold seam for the top. Inside all the board pin connections are press-fit! They don't even attempt to solder them anymore. I put some electronics flux and leaded solder on them and reinstalled it in the van figuring why the heck not. Well it worked, all the brake/abs/trac/esp lights are off and have been for a week. I took pictures if you want to see what the inside of the EBCM/ABM looks like :) I see what you mean by the bolts being stuck. I freed mine up by putting my shortened T20 3/8" drive socket on them and giving them a good tap with a hammer. It seemed to jar them so they weren't stuck and I was able to unscrew them out. I didn't think that would work since I also live in the 'rust belt'.
highlight of my day when an SMA video appears on my subscription feed. Such a great channel, it was this channel and yourself that helped me doing my own brake pad and rotor change on my Kia. saved me several hunded ££ and i learnt something new. :)
+South Main Auto Repair Same here. Your Honda timing belt video saved me a lot of money... which I then spent on all the tools I've seen in your videos since. :P
It iratates me that manufacturers charge so much for basic control modules, especially when they are prone to failure. Great video as usual scope on the rope sees all!
There is a young man selling his dads tool box on you tube because his famous diesel mechanic father didn't have his self belt on because he was just driving a short distance he was thrown from sunroof in accident
The OEM scanner is called the Witech (Software) it is used with the Micropod.very nice software, great to find communication issue since it is in real time Newer vehicules dont need to be drive to initialized ESP. Nice video Doctor O'
That C1214 code is the same as happens on the Corvette ... It is caused by a bad relay in the EBCM Module and the relay can be replaced seperately by careful technicians. Of course GM wants to sell you a new module for over $1,000 (The relay itself would be about $10 so just find a shop that does module repairs near you)
Thanks for the vid Eric...when I was younger you could just drag your feet to stop the old VW bugs. Just stick your feet through the rusted floor board.
That was some great diagnostics, Eric. I also saw the Autel flash the driving instructions before the countdown. I guess you need to be quick on that one.
I got an 04 monte with a abs/traction light. I pulled that plug and saw that "wire/vent" Thought I was the hero but Unfortunately No. Thanks for letting me know about the vent 😌
+Timothy Cooper That would never happen in a normal shop environment IMO. These units are filled with that jelly substance and even if you were able to get it off with out cutting the screws getting it open with out completely destroying it would be a miracle. Used southern units are very cheap. Just a much cheaper alternative IMO. Also we don't know it is a broken solder joint.
Nice video. It's amazing the Autel stayed in the 1 sec mode and didn't time out until you completed the test. Autel has some nice features. Late night but always satisfying when another car is finished.
+Hayward's Automotive Yeah I am sure if you work in a shop as your name implies you have had your share of late nights too! Heck I have actually slept there a few times...
+South Main Auto Repair Oh yea when I was in my 20's & 30's I would work from 5:30 til 11PM and then when I hit 40's 5:30 until 6-7PM and now 50's normally 5:30 until 5:30 and now I turn 60 this year and am semi-retired but I still have my life long customers I still work on their cars but on my schedule so I am trying to slow down and enjoy life. Between 25 yrs in the Air Force and still running my shop and drag racing & retired from military to working at Lockheed Martin doing Flight Operations & Delivery on the F-22 Raptor and my shop and finally retiring from Lockheed to just work on cars at my shop to now semi-retired at 60 so I do it when my loyal customers need their cars fixed but I love it. They don't want me to retire from cars especially my Snap-on guy and truthfully I want to work on them forever b/c the new technology keeps me interested and the more complicating the better I like it. If you are staying at your shop late and sleeping there every once in awhile it just means you enjoy what you are doing and your videos show it.
Hayward's Automotive It is refreshing to read this. Thank you for telling me about the passion you have for this rusty junk too haha. I would like to meet you some day sir.
+South Main Auto Repair It's definitely a passion and I know it is after I am bent over a hood or under a dash and feel it but I am extremely grateful to be healthy and do what I love to do! Where's an easier place to get wiring diagrams? I'm a mechanic, just not a car mechanic. I think that's the hardest part about working on cars is finding the wiring diagrams. And I'm gonna invest in Wearever Brake Cleaner.... you're single handedly keeping that company in business. Great vids, btw.

Love your videos Eric! I live in the rust belt too (MN), i love getting parts from the south or CA. Thanks for the tip here, im not great w abs modules so thank you.
A vent tube on an electrical connector?? Whats next a glove box door module with a position sensor?? Will the data pid tell you the percentage the glove box is open? lol
'There's your problem lady"....for the Love of all that's Holy either put the seatbelt on or shoot that warning bell dinger and put it out of its misery. Look how fresh that JeeP hat is !!! As usual another great video & it's much appreciated !
TOPIC SUGGESTION: "Preventive Maintenance" (i.e. stuff you can do with a new or well-running vehicle to ward off future problems). What to spray and where. Things to lube. Stuff to reinforce, replace or remove outright. Etc. For example, I like to spray the exterior of all electrical connectors with dielectric grease, which not only helps prevent shorts and corrosion, but also blocks a lot of "gunk" buildup.
I used to have a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix gt... miss the 3800 series 3 engine, only problem with that engine I had was a water pump. I miss it soo much😭😭
Those Astro lights are quite handy aren't they? I see that the Verus isn't included on the Amazon store rundown of SMA stuff. Let me guess, Amazon doesn't sell Snap-On goodies.....duh. Good job on the fix. Thanks for the video.
I had to replace a ABS Module on a 2004 Chevy Silverado. Was fun trying to get the bolts out, like you said on-top of the frame rail. Midwest truck (Nebraska), they like the salt here also, But Not like Minnesota my home state. The one I had, had the relay stuck on. It was draining the battery. Truck was a no start repair. charge the Battery and you could here the ABS motor running. Unplugged module and ordered a replacement from Rock-Auto. Customer was happy. Not a cheep repair though.
Another good video from EricO! Now I am just eagerly awaiting for the next diagnostic mystery and hoping Eric does video tape it when it comes in through that door.
I noticed you didn't do the steering wheel turn procedure exactly as the AUTEL said to do it. That may be why you didn't get prompted to drive it. It said full left, full right, then FULL LEFT again, then center. You did left, right, then center.
*STOP IT!* You videos are never crappy! Re: Part 1 I can remember back when if a *RED* brake Telltale was lit and "unrepairable" in the Shop- the Mechanic had the "Legal Right" to un-sticker the car, and declare it un drivable until repaired. (I don't know about NY and this was pre-ABS) Can you still legally do that- "ground a Pilot" we called it?
+HUBBABUBBA DOOPYDOOP NY can't legally remove a sticker for any reason UNLESS it is expired(past the last day of the month punched). In the past(from what I heard over 10 years) the rule may have been different, and I believe it was only removable in the context of an official inspection. You could have brake fluid dripping from all calipers and the sticker stays if it is time valid. Otherwise the shops could hold you hostage, not all places are honest.
Good diagnosis, but there is another option, send the electronics to a place like BBA for repair or exchange. You could probably fix this for less than $100 cost for parts. It worked for my 2000 Suburban. Your right about the screws, replaced mine and anti-seized them.
Noticed on the initial ABS calibration it required turn wheel full left then full right then back full left then to center. You went back to center after full right. Could that have been an issue? Seemed to hang right after that...worked out ok anyway. Great video!
Working on an old ford for a relative. He brought it in and they told him $1000 for a new module. Had code C1095. The pump feed wire was in a tight spot (97 Lincoln continental). Wiggled the wire a bit with the scan tool activating the pump and found the problem, bit of dielectric grease fixed it. Now the scan tool can't pull datastream (says it should, but it don't, Its an IDS and a red brick) and there is false abs and TC (guess that means front wheels) at low speed. Guess I have to scope it out( he may be buying me one!). Tone rings on CV look ok, one has a small scratch in it.Doubt that could be the issue. They ohm out ok and seem to pass the millivolt AC test on a meter (but that is a slow update).
I saw that quick flash also, something about please drive vehicle and perform the specified task that was on the screen earlier, don't know why it didn't stay on there either, I have a maxisys also and love it, trying to get used to using Android though, damn windows got me all screwed up. xp bah humbug. you look like me out there driving at night when everyone else has gone home. oh the pleasures of ownership. great video thanks for posting.
Can you please give a little more detail on how you disconnected and reconnected the wiring harness on the Dodge ABS module? My 2008 town and country gives the C2200 code for a month or so and then goes away, and then comes back a year later! Thanks
Awesome vid Eric. Up here if you need a yearly safety inspection sticker for a commercial plated vehicle an ABS money light on fails the inspection. I guess you have customers pass on the ABS repair on their passenger vehicles and just drive without it but I suspect it's not going to be optional in the future. That's going to be interesting :)
I believe all that buzzer was from e seat belt all along from beginning. Man where would ya be without some type of scan tool these days. Old school mechanics would be lost wi just their wrenches. New schoo tech have all the fun with their tech toys
Which Autel model did you use to reprogram the ABS module? I have to replace my ABS module and reprogram a couple of TPMs on my 08 Town and Country. I figured I might as well buy an Autel as an investment to avoid taking it to the stealership. Thanks in advance!!!
I have been having this code C2200-49 dealership has a new abs unit ordered for over the last yr (back ordered) will be covered under ext. warr,,the last 2 months all the lights went off and the 2014 journey acting normal with no problems, before that for around 3-4 months sometimes the warning lights would come on and then be okay on a different day,,, oh well electronic gremlins strike again
Their is modules that can be repaired hust by opening and re-soldering the terminals because of cold soldering from the manufacturing. Check out the you tube video's that show it step by step. all depends on the make and year, my Kelsey unit from 1998 sealed and looks to be not repairable, looks like a hard sealed unit.
Eric like your videos ,can you possibly add in your videos ; calls made to the customers ,that would be interesting of course your end only. this is better than the history ch.lol
I like the other intro where u waived your hand across the camera like a game show host. Maybe u can put a reality series where u get frustraed with jobs and cuss and throw stuff. i enjoy those vids
In the state of NY is it required to have ABS functional if it came with ABS? Electronic ridiculousness. Great videos BTW - don't see any reason for someone to thumbs down it...

Nice Job, loved all the ins and outs of the programing the Chrysler. 9:00pm to go home, the fun of owning your own business.

Can you please give a little more detail on how you disconnected and reconnected the wiring harness on the Dodge ABS module? My 2008 town and country gives the C2200 code for a month or so and then goes away, and then comes back a year later! Thanks
those CAB /ABS module connectors are such a pain. I would love for someone to make a video on the easiest way to disconnect them. Great video btw. :)
Dude,u are likely the best mechanic I've found online yet, Chris fix is decent too👍🏻
Chris Fix is way better than I will ever be....
lol they due come in 3s like a clutch job
Awesome vid Eric. Up here if you need a yearly safety inspection sticker for a commercial plated vehicle an ABS money light on fails the inspection. I guess you have customers pass on the ABS repair on their passenger vehicles and just drive without it but I suspect it's not going to be optional in the future. That's going to be interesting :)
+STEVE ROB As it is right now you can pass with the ABS on
I believe all that buzzer was from e seat belt all along from beginning. Man where would ya be without some type of scan tool these days. Old school mechanics would be lost wi just their wrenches. New schoo tech have all the fun with their tech toys
Shoot... That Autel is awesome. If it weren't so expensive, I'd buy one... But it probably would do much more than this at home DIYer can do.
People talk these W bodies up as reliable. Ill never understand why, I feel like I work on them more than anything else.
+a Reliable work.
The Lesabre is a G-body
Eric like your videos ,can you possibly add in your videos ; calls made to the customers ,that would be interesting of course your end only. this is better than the history ch.lol
Nah that would take up to much film time...
bsa in Massachusetts rebuilds them for a really reasonable price. then you don't have to mess with any possible coding
I like the other intro where u waived your hand across the camera like a game show host. Maybe u can put a reality series where u get frustraed with jobs and cuss and throw stuff. i enjoy those vids
+E Chew Haha people would love that
+South Main Auto Repair. ha I really enjoyed when you threw that used headgasket and got mad
E Chew I'll keep that in mind haha
05 Astro - the module is not replaceable separately. What a nightmare. Still ongoing wiring problem but it passes inspection so forget it
In the state of NY is it required to have ABS functional if it came with ABS?
Electronic ridiculousness.
Great videos BTW - don't see any reason for someone to thumbs down it...
