A lot of people talk about the CIS army being incompetent in this show but you can’t lie they certainly had their moments. They were much better than the stormtroopers in Rebels.
People saying they were incompetent didnt really watch the show. They made sure to portray them as highly skilled, even grievous ALWAYS PREDICTED OBI WANS PLANS he was just always fd up by plot armour. and the announcer makes it perfectly clear every episode that the seperatists are winning most of the time. Its just that we follow the main characters.
I don’t how or why the Droid Army lost so many battles. They had so much more firepower, way more innovative ways to infiltrate mass quantities of ground infantry and specialists, unlimited resources to replenish and expand, and so many more tactical reasons they should’ve stomped the Clones. But that’s how it always goes. The bad guys always lose and the good guys always win.
It was also a rigged war. They were never meant to win. If they weren't puppets to the sith, the separatists would've dominated the whole universe in a decade.
Don’t forget that on top of the clones taking cover and being intelligent bred-for-war soldiers, they also had the Jedi carrying a lot of battles. It’s proven immediately in the very first episode “Ambush” that the Jedi can equal the strength of thousands of battle droids. Time and time again, the Jedi managed to turn the tide of the battle. Whether it’s Yoda, Anakin, or Obi-Wan, you know a lot of droids are gonna go down once one of them shows up.
I don't know enough about the lore of droid construction, but I'd imagine that to make space for the processor hardware, they'd have to add a bunch of extra weight to the Commando Droid and reduce the parts meant to increase speed and flexibility. It'd be like trying to cram a NASA Super-computer into a Laptop and trying to make it have the advantages of both high power and portability. It's much more practical to have the Super Tactical Droid be limited in strength and mobility to focus all its hardware on high speed processing, and then just link them to the same network the Commando Droids are on to receive the Super Tac's orders and execute them using their bodies designed for intense combat and physical damage.

Some models didn't have the observation spire. There were two models of the Providence, a Carrier and a dreadnought. It might be a carrier variant.
