It would likely depend on the exact design that you're wanting to print, but I don't think you necessarily need to use nylon for printing gears. I've made a bunch of different designs that have complex geared systems and printed them in PLA without issue. You just have to make the design with PLA in mind, i.e. making your parts a little bit beefier and putting more consideration into print orientation to provide the best strength. If you're trying to print an existing design that doesn't have those considerations built in, you might consider trying to print it in PETG. It's still a pretty accessible material that an A1 mini should be able to print effectively, but gives you more strength and durability than PLA.
That's a great idea! Since the outer ring is its own separate piece, you could definitely print it in TPU or TPE if your printer can handle that, which would make it much more grippy. I hadn't even thought of that, I might actually give that a try, thanks for the suggestion. And thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Got an idea for a future project?
Comment it below and I'll shout you out if I end up doing it!
I want a lever actuated air raid siren but i can only print with a a1 mini so no nylon gears, suggestions?
