Very Nicely explained. It works.
Though, I got the below error while starting hive.
"Missing hadoop installation: C\hadoop-2.7.6" must be set. The path variables are correctly set though in Environment variables.
I only executed this command set HADOOP_HOME = C\hadoop-2.7.6
Everything worked fine after this command execution. Hive was started successfully and I was able to create the sample database.

hi, i get the same and i solved with this: in user variables must set "HADOOP_HOME" without bin folder, just the home of the folder. in system variables, in "path", you must set the complete path adding bin folder of hadoop.

Check whether your derby home folder has derby.jar or install derby again with derby.jar ..

m j last option is to change your hadoop change it to 2.3.0 instead of 2.7
mrunmayee kulkarni It took me 2 Weeks to setup hadoop :(... I am bit scare to move on other versions.. Actually bin files was provided by the blogger foe 2.7 not sure it will work with 2.3 or not... The reason hive 3.x is giving this error is it dont have a hive.cmd in its /bin. Only supported version that can run on windows are 2.1.X

Install hadoop 2.3.0
Set HADOOP_HOME to C:\hadoop-2.7.7. And ONLY in the Path variable make it C:\hadoop-2.7.7\bin

m j this error is for hadoop and not for hive ...it is because hadoop is unable to create directory for hive and requires clean installation ..if your hadoop had something it needs to be reformated by command..but if this is still not working you have to create directory by yourself and then try same method ...there is another video by tiger on RUclips go for it ...follow just initial steps not all and install hive on clean hadoop ..I guess this will resolve the issue !

FYI: My java path is different C:\Java\jdk1.8.0_221\bin For this path I have set user and system variables

Check for jdk in your control panel.. I guess it not correctly installed try installing jdk again

Check if your java is installed correctly.. Try installing jdk again

hadoop namenode -format in cmd prompt
it will eventually delete all your data from hadoop but it solve the issue ! Let me know

Check if the folder has any executable jar..if so type that jar name in cmd while running

@@sidd913 Never tried such ! But it can work on derby ..you will have to iterate sqoop commands for each table to import.

Use hadoop 2.3.0 only...if you are using 2.3.0 then type command hadoop namenode -format. It will clear the hadoop data but connection close error will resolve

@@manikandanbasker4929 it requires a different hivesite.xml with MySQL credentials set in XML . You can download it from internet and paste in place of current hivesite.xml and try connecting

To all my dear friends.Those who are getting connection closed error or any other please note your hadoop version.........The one provided here is of combination (Hive=2.1.0) and hadoop(2.3.0)........No other version of hadoop will run and will show Errors. So better download hadoop 2.3.0 and the reinstall it

You have to remove 2.8.0 and try installing 2.3.0 with all environment variables again

@Khurram Imtiaz have you run hadoop properly? go to sbin and start the cmd there. then delete bin from HADOOP_HOME and HIVE_HOME
