Fantastic, will watch this soon. Was going to Metroid2002 from time to time but found the forums were pretty dead. Had no idea there was still speedrunning going on for this game. Great to see it is still alive 20 years later. Amazing run with this new route, it is really refreshing. I still remember the times where we were discussing that sub hour was not possible. Look how far you guys have come.
haha me 2, Stefans run are a big reason why im speedrunning today and his runs are amongst the first speedruns i've ever seen. I like thinking back to 2006 or 2007 when i watched those runs. You can still find them on speeddemosarchive, if anyone wants to check them out, there in really good quality too.
Stefan!!! My days, very longtime, no see. I re-watched your PAL 1:07 promo video again recently on the MIM DVD (Andrew from SCU here), still love the editing and timing of the music to the movement. Hope life's been treating you well.
@@AlphaStrategyGuides Hi Andrew, that is great to hear. Good to see you here after such a long time. You mention 1:07. I believe Paul beat my 1:09 and his time was 1:07 or do I remember incorrectly? Could you sent me the link to that music video? I have lost all those videos and would love to see that one back.
@@mrspeedrunwastaken1348 right, those were the good days. Playing this game endlessly for hours each day. How much dedication a man needs to get a record in, and now all just a memory of the past. Good to see my videos have inspired others to take on the same task. It will not go in vain :D
I played through Metroid Prime Remastered and thought I'd like to see a speed run of the GCN original. I miss the original controls. It's funny how just the controls alone and the glitches they brought with it like the L-lock scan jump and R-lock jump (I don't remember their actual names) made the GCN version so much funner to play. Space jump first is one of the best sequence breaks ever. It opens the game up in an entirely new way. Great run, thanks for letting me take a run through memory lane
Incredible run, What a great watch. Keep it up, youre single handedly carrying the progress in this game right now, unreal how low you've pushed it by now.
What in the actual shit. I've only now started playing metroid prime and you've gotten the upgrades I did in about 6 hours of playtime within the first 15 minutes wth.
Congrats! This is amazing!!! Was wondering how much lower things had gotten in the last decade. This is a long ways away from the old days of theory crafting routes to get below an hour.
This is smilingjack13. I was watching Josh C's 21% speed run and he told me to come check this out. I haven't touched the game or kept up with new advancements in about 17 years. Wow, is this ever different from the route I remember! The wave beam + artifact trick was a bit mind boggling. Huge congrats to you - this level of play for a single segment run is incredible! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many surprises in one place. Time for me to ask a n00b question. Given you got Artifact of Newborn without fighting Omega Pirate, doesn't that make it possible to skip x-ray visor? What makes it infeasible to get 20%? Do you need to get boost ball or something?
Whoa, thanks a lot! Your low% runs were some of the earliest runs I watched. 1:13 in any% in 2004 was ahead of its time and your 3 tank VMR is a classic video. Phazon suit is needed to damage Metroid Prime's second phase, so you still need to kill Omega Pirate. 20% has been solved for TAS by skipping varia suit. It's not feasible for non-TAS though as it requires a super precise trick: ruclips.net/video/jaF8cewBogo/видео.html. In essence, you avoid going through magmoor by going from the front of mines > back of mines (via wallcrawling) > magmoor workstation sw > far phendrana > bombu sw in the e-tank room > wave beam. Then, you leave phendrana from the back and get phazon suit which gives heat protection.
@@TRR010 Thanks! Ohhh, that does ring a bell now, that phazon suit is needed to damage MP. Thanks for explaining. Has anyone posted a 20% TAS run? That would be entertaining to watch.
Congrats on the sub 45 TRR, that's just a seriously impressive run! Any reason why you didn't SJF to the left off the ship? Is it really *that* inconsistent to pull off at WR-level? BTW, does that mean it's SJF, and now PBES (Power Bomb Expansion Second)?! Never thought I'd see that one in an MP run (with no IS in sight either). Amazing execution.
A couple noob questions: 1) how do you do that scan quick side jump thing? 2) how come your Samus looks different than in the original game? 3) did you use any mods for this run?
Which one did he not pick up? If you're thinking its the Artifact of the Sun, he gets that when he does infinite speed to pick up wave beam and artifact at the same time. Pretty neat trick, Im going to have to try that one since it looked pretty easy setup
Congratulations, seeing Prime tie with a 2D Metroid is just unreal, never thought I'd see the day.
Fusion and Prime came out very close to each other.
Prime allowed you to connect a GBA to the GameCube in order to unlock the Fusion Suits.
16:39 pardon me, monstrosity
do you know the times

Aand done
My god 39 is on the horizon now
Excellent job T3
they just released the remaster so this WR is now invalid. too bad. 20 years of time saves instantly declared useless

You never realize just how prevalent that panic attack-inducing Chozo ghost/Elite Pirate music is until you watch a speedrun.

35:45 gave me heart palpitations. 10 HP. A few unlucky hits from pirates and run would be completely over.
Always incredible to watch, cant believe the time is still going down
What an accomplishment. Congratulations.

To think there was no more, here I'm proven wrong. Literally can't believe this happened.
Now to figure if there's a chance for more to happen
The last oob seems so awful to execute (particularly knowing that its at the end of the run). What a great run
I love that you show off the visor effects around 2:06.
GG! Incredible stuff. So smooth
WTF did I just watch? The amount of dedication, timing, skill... - did you really skip the first battle with MP altogether? What the actual fuck
GGs!
Congratz ! this is amazing hope you try 21% next ;)
Congratulations

at 45:34, how did you shoot the ice door, morph, then unmorph with plasma active?
You can buffer a beam swap coming out of morph ball
do you just hold a direction on the c-stick while unmorphing?
What is that... thing at 16:40
Like for example, how do you shoot missiles so fast? That’s literally not possible on GameCube

any chance you can share the deets on the flyby skip setup?
How were you able to fight ridley without the last artifact?
