The service they got at KFC doesn't surprise me. The service at the KFC near me is the same. I haven't been to KFC in over a year, since before I started keto but I am sure it hasn't changed, service probably still sucks!

Y'all mentioned that you don't know a lot of situations where fast food is the major option. I have one. I'm a truck driver. I'm on the road running up and down the east coast in the vicinity of 2500 to 3500+ miles a week. This video helped me with some of the choices we have as drivers. I'm desperately trying keto to lose weight and hopefully reverse my type 2 diabetes. All the while trying to avoid another heart attack. Just subscribed and look forward to your videos
My coworker practically lived on the Wendy's Baconator this summer while he was in summer school and working full time. He said he'd order the triple with no bun/ketchup with extra lettuce, so that gave him enough lettuce to wrap it. And I can attest to the Jimmy John's Unwich. Extremely tasty. Also, if you ever see a Hardee's, they have a low-carb 1/3 lb Thickburger that is absolutely delish, and only 6g of carbs. If you request no onion/no ketchup, it goes down to 3g of carbs. I'm not sure if they have the same burger at Carl's Jr, though.

Kfc needs Jesus chicken
For anyone who is starting keto, and if you feel overwhelmed by the mistaken notion that you have to prepare most of your meals at home - take it from someone who has now lost 100 lbs on keto. About 90 percent of my low carb meals, during my weight loss journey, were eaten at restaurants. So if your lifestyle entails that you have to eat out a lot, you still can be successful at low carb. While it is not ideal, in the sense that you can't control how your meat is sourced, or the type of oils that are used, don't , as the old adage goes: "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good". Even if you can't get everything organic, grass fed, and free of omega 6 oils, you still will substantially reduce your weight, and any metabolic issues with a low carb diet, even it is not eaten in ideal conditions. I frequently used KFC grilled chicken, or Burger King Whoppers and removed the bun. You can do low carb practically anywhere.
I challenge you to find very many options at Panera for low-carb, outside of a bland salad.
Michael Smith, you can buy multiple sandwiches, with cheese, and simply remove the bread. Of course, that gets pricey. Granted, Panera Bread is one of the least ideal places to eat for low carb, and if I ever have to eat there, I would choose the salad and just put extra ranch or blue cheese dressing on top.
"Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good!" Yes, this has been my excuse, reasoning, downfall in many different "diets". I know this is a lifestyle choice for me, and I have to remember that perfectionism will ruin me.
thank you for writing this. i am currently pre-diabetic and was recommended to switch to keto and after just a couple weeks i couldnt stop "cheating" because i have been eating high carb for over 30 years. i also have 4 kids so meal prep is almost impossible.

Maybe corporate shouldn't make their jobs so miserable for no reason! It's not just a problem with KFC; working retail, I know what that lady was going through. She probably needed to serve the people in the restaurant and the drink orders while this guy takes his time reading the menu. As a Chick-fil-A enthusiast I just wanted to clear up the misunderstanding about what the nuggets are made of. They take a whole chicken breast and cut it into pieces to make the nuggets, there are no fillers. The other ingredients and carbs come from the marinade. It is grilled on a Real grill. If you wanted to avoid the dressing, you could always get the club sandwich with Colby Jack cheese without the bun and put mayo on it. Give it a try!

I work at a customer call center and I would really suggest calling kfcs customer service to let them know about that rude experience for sure

Depends on the state. If you are in a single party consent state like Texas, then you do not need someone's permission to film them. But if you're not in one of those states, then you need someone's permission in order to film them.
You're correct for many places. Some states don't explicitly state this -- and therefore townships can pass a local ordinance that bans it. Also some states do not fully allow recording.
Texas for example is a single party consent state (as are most states). Meaning you can legally record video and audio as long as one person involved in the interaction consents -- which includes yourself. Meaning you can record phone conversations, video, etc. on public and private property - even private property that you do not own -- such as a KFC.
However if you are recording someone else from a distance whom you aren't interacting with (whom isn't a public servant) then you can run into legal issues sometimes, even in a public location. But if you speak to one of the people in that interaction and get permission - you're golden. This applies more to phones though -- in public its fairly easy to say you're interacting simply by being there at all. Nonverbal communication (which can even include scent or appearance or any kind), gestures, anything really. lol.
Things can also get dicey with recordings where each participant is in a different state with different laws. You usually can't get in trouble for recording if you're in a state where it isn't illegal -- but you probably can't use such a recording in a court proceeding either.
In 11 states they have various forms of multiple-party consent laws. Some ban things like secret recording - meaning you can record without permission if you reveal it. Some ban recording without permission. Some ban these things, but only in a "private place" - aka not a public place -- not to be confused with "public" and "private" property.
California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. --- If you live in one of these places -- check your books. Otherwise, single-party consent. Some of these are almost single-party - with a small caveat like I mentioned before.
As for local places outside of single party consent states (towns, universities, businesses, etc.) -- I don't know which places have ordinances that prohibit recording.

If you're in a single party consent state and don't have a form of written permission for a recording you aren't involved in -- you could have legal issues simply because you can't prove consent, even if you had consent.

Chick-fil-A workers are nicer. At the end when you get your order and you say, "Thank you", they say, "My pleasure". I like that and they even sound genuine. My favorite is Chipotle. But I usually get the Burrito bowl with beans and rice (can't help myself), no cheese and every hot sauce. Not very often, sorta like a cheat/treat.

This is a bit like referring to a marinated chicken breast as "having fillers". All of that stuff is listed after apple cider vinegar because there is less of those things than apple cider vinegar (the base liquid for the marinade, along with water - probably close to equal parts). How much apple cider vinegar do you think is in that chicken XD. How much liquid at all in the solid piece of meat?
It uses chicken breast filet - which is solid unprocessed meat. Nearly impossible to add filler into that.
An ingredients list that contains filler would look more like this. Mechanically Separated chicken, corn stuff, wheat stuff. for a solid object - like chicken or beef products. Corn, wheat, or a derivitive of them would be second on the list.
A liquid product (usually juice) with filler would look like this. Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Juice of other Fruit, [Actual thing on the label] concentrate. Something acidic, preservatives.

The list of ingredients for something made at home would look similar to chik-fil-a's chicken. Chicken, Water, Seasoning/Marinade (Then a break down of every single component of the marinade)

For example contrast McDonalds Chicken Nuggets ingredient list:
It reads as Chicken "unspecified form" - meaning mechanically separated chicken (which is also obvious by the appearance of the chicken itself) - then obvious filler ingredients like corn starch, flour, wheat starch, "food starch", yeast, etc. - Some of these are listed under seasoning (in the breading) -- but some are listed right after chicken - meaning its probably about 40% chicken, 40% filler, 10% water, 10% seasoning/breading

Just because chicken has something in it that isn't chicken doesn't mean its filler. Also adding flour/ starch of some kind isn't automatically filler either. For example if you take chicken breast and bread it and fry it - you add starch/flour. Thats different than blending up the chicken, adding a corn or wheat filler of some kind to the mix, then breading that mix and frying it.

Our KFC does not even have grilled chicken on the menu, anymore. As for their green beans? Just stop by the grocery and pick up a can and eat them out of the can, because that is what KFC green beans taste like. And KFC adds tons of salt. probably trying to make up for the lack of taste.

Samantha Menendez Honestly, I would have told her that I am not backing up. The first menu board isn't a full menu, so it is not happening when you start with attitude right off the bat. I would have sat at the intercom until someone pulled up behind me and then gone inside to speak to her manager. While I get that they have goal to meet, it should never come at the expense of shitty customer service. I have worked in customer service my entire life and that does not go over well, even in the crappy companies.

California does have an actual law which states that two party consent must be obtained for any personal or confidential conversations, be they in public or not. That being said... ordering KFC isn't personal or confidential.

The lady at kfc was the worst. The exact same thing happened to me and my sister when we went to Popeye’s one time. We told her we needed a second to look and she told us to drive around so that other customers could drive through...EVEN THOUGH WE WERE THE ONLY CAR IN LINE. And then when we actually ordered she was super nasty and rude and had the worse attitude as she basically threw our food at us. Never went back.

Today I rewarded myself and hubby with some much loved Mexican food. Virtually no carbs in Chile Colorado (chunks of beef stewed in red chile sauce) along with a green chile relleno. (Egg batter over green chile and cheese). 1st month fat loss: 20.4 lbs!! Hubby lost 22 lbs.

The white cheddar cheese is real cheese the quarter pounders are fresh made and 100% beef. You could even do a round egg and add on top (real egg, fresh made).

My go to is a chipotle burrito bowl with no rice no beans. Double meat with chicken AND steak, tomato and medium salsa, LOTS of cheese and sour cream, guac and lettuce on top. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS WAY TO CONGRATULATE YOURSELF FOR STAYING KETO. I’m one week strong so far :)

Best fast food experience for me was Hardee’s!!!I asked for a “double bacon cheese burger, no bun.” She replied back “so you would like me to make it low carb?” Me ”yes!!!” **sidenote I was BAFFLED she knew what I meant because most fast food places don’t have a clue.** so then I Pull up get my food, open my sac and the burger is wrapped just like a regular burger. I’m thinking shit she left the bun on. Open it and they wrapped it with lettuce so all I had to do was pick it up and eat it like a regular burger! I don’t go anywhere else! **except sonic for breakfast. (Ultimate meat and cheese burrito with no Tots or tortilla🤤)

Unknown not sure if this is directed towards me or not. My highest weight was 374, I’m currently at 281, I’ve been as low as 254. If I stick with Keto, it works. When I eat carbs, my weight creeps back up.

I work nights, and whataburger triple cheeseburger no bun is pretty much my go to. The burger is a bit greasy too, which is a good thing if you aren't cutting fats, which in keto, you aren't.
They also have good things you can add, avocado, grilled pepper and onions, bacon, different kind of cheese, any of their dressings (more carbs though). You can also go single or double patty obviously.
They also have the garden salad with or without chicken, and all their chicken stuff have a grilled option, and its actual chicken. You can also just add a beef patty with cheese (or 3 XD) to a garden salad as well. Or Bacon. Or avacado/grilled peppers and onions. Jalapenos for spice if you want.
This is the best option for late night hands down. Or any time really. Beef, chicken, and pork options.
To add fat you can get milk if you wanted (but will add carbs), or you can get half and half that they have for coffee. Add them to a diet soda for a "coke float" sort of effect if you want, or just drink them like shots -- or in coffee obviously. lol. Point is, there at least is a fat option to get. But avocado is probably a better option most of the time, or bacon.
They also have breakfast between and 11pm and 11am or something like that. So you can get sausage and eggs if you want during those times.
24/7 --- this is fantastic, because I don't know of hardly anywhere else that is good for keto at night.
Now if you aren't in the Southern United States and don't have this place . . . I'm very sorry for you. But in my opinion its still by far the best option and worth mentioning.

Ah! It's about the performance metrics. Of course. I know I would never back my car up. Or, back up and then take my time picking my order. "Sorry, I need the entire menu in order to make up my mind." I used to love KFC. Every time I went there, there was bad attitudes, wrong or incomplete orders, or they did not have the chicken cooked. Maybe that is another performance metric? Only cooking the chicken when it is ordered? Even on a busy Saturday night?

Grocery store for me instead. Meat, salt packets and a fork at the deli (or canned seafood) and a big ripe avocado plus 1 or 2 other veggies. Sparkling water to drink and rinse produce. A parking lot feast.

Robnord1 Amen Sir! My preference is to eat whole foods any day. You could feast at my World Class Shoprite. There are multiple types of prepared meats (chicken, ribs, grilled turkey breast, salad bar, veggie sides and a good selection of low to no carbs drinks.
I work graveyard shifts and especially due to the pandemic, there’s no access to break rooms to bring food so I often have to go to fast food stops. Wendy’s is definitely my favorite. I order the creamy Sriracha double bacon cheese burger lettuce wrapped. It has crispy onion straws but those have about 2 carbs per serving. Sooooooo good!
I see KFC is the same everywhere, I stopped eating there a long time ago. Chick-fil-a nuggets don't have fillers, it is solid chicken, however it is marinated. They have some sauces to dip the nuggets in that have few to no carbs. I like Texas Pete Hot Sauce, 0 carbs. I like Culver's Cheddar Bacon Double Cheese Burger with everything minus onions, mayo and bun. Really filling. I stop there on days I teach late and am too tired to make something.

I've never heard of being asked to backup from the menu. That was nuts. Many fast food places have a timer for the drive-thru window to keep up with service time averages, but that shouldn't start until the order is placed.

First of all, I just have to say that I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! I love your honesty, straightforwardness and humor! I know I can count on you guys to give me the real deal on KETO! I have been on KETO since January 24th of 2019, and I feel better than I have in a REALLY LONG TIME (I'm 53 yrs old)! I don't have brain fog, my memory has improved, I don't have as much joint pain and other body pain, and a bunch of other health benefits! Oh, and as a side benefit, I am down 2 whole sizes mostly in my waist and belly, which I have never been able to do! (I weighed 241 on 1/24, and I haven't weighed myself again yet. I will when I go to the doctor's soon!) I am not eating sugar and regular white or wheat flour and also 99% of the time, not having vegetable oils of any kind (sometimes it's hard to catch the vegetable oils, but I do my best!). I am also finding that most things that you wouldn't think would have flour DO! (I made that mistake at Subway with their meatballs!)
That being said, I looked up the ingredients for the KFC Grilled Chicken, and here's what I found in an article about KFC's secret ingredient: "For the record, KFC Grilled Chicken is made of chicken, salt, sodium phosphate, MSG, maltodextrin, BLEACHED WHEAT FLOUR, partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil, spices, palm oil, natural flavor (?), garlic powder, Soy sauce, chicken fat, chicken broth, autolyzed yeast, BEEF POWDER, RENDERED BEEF FAT, extractives of tumeric, dehydrated carrot, onion powder, calcium silicate, silicon dioxide. Just like Mom used to make, right?"
I thought you guys would like to know! The beef seasoning is probably why it tastes so good. I'm in the Detroit area of Michigan, so unfortunately, there aren't any In N Out burger places or El Pollo Loco restaurants here (I'm from LA, so I know the real deal about those, too, and BOY, do I miss them!). Being on patrol as a Deputy Sheriff makes it pretty difficult at times. I try to pack my own food, but occasionally I will forget, and drive-thru is the only option depending on call volume. Wendy's is my favorite drive-thru, second being Hardee's burger wrapped in lettuce, and Chipotle if I have time (ours is always so damn busy).
A few of our Chipotle have agreements with our local first responder agencies. If folx walk in, in uniform, they have an expedited service (usually a manager that comes out and builds your order) or you can call in the order too. (My hubby works EMS.)
I'm a truck driver so fast food is my only option a lot of the time. Thanks for the ideas!
XGiveMeLibertyX another choice is Popeyes, they have “nekkid” tenders.. which are blackened but you could probably get without seasonings as well, since I don’t know what’s in their seasonings.

Me too. Wendys and Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr. seem the best for bunless burgers. If I’ve kept my other carbs low for the day, I’ll get Wendy’s chilly. The small is 12 net carbs. I usually try to keep low carb tortillas on the truck and I’ll get Arby’s roast beef or Subway steak and cheese and put it on the tortilla. I drink bulletproof coffee most of the day and it seems to keep me from getting very hungry.
You could always buy a portable camping stove. I know a lot of truckers that do that.

The problem with restaurant keto isn’t that you can’t find good keto stuff, it’s that it’s usually not cost affective. You order chicken and rice without the rice and it costs the same as much as it would with the rice! A burger without the bun costs just as much as a burger with the bun. Unless they have a specific lettuce wrap burger as a menu item.

I love BLTs, so the other day, I gathered some fresh Iceberg lettuce, some ripe peeled tomatoes and some crispy bacon. I used home made avocado mayo. I put it all together on a plate and chopped it up and it was just as satisfyingly as a sandwich. It had all of the BLT flavors and it was lovely.
I just did this today, it was so delicious!
I prefer to make Keto food at home because I believe many of these fast food places add fillers and the price is not worth it. Jason's Deli is hands down the best place to go.

I just think people are poorly trained, probably by poorly trained managers. It is a vicious circle. I have never been much of a fast food person. When I do go to one my order is usually wrong. FAST FOOD, FAST DEATH.
Maxi Max You’re not wrong about poor training but at the same time, it doesn’t take training to be a nice person. When I was a manager at a hospital and was interviewing people for jobs, I would always say “This is a customer service job. I can train you to do anything on the computer that needs to be done, any task that I need but I can’t train you to be a nice person”. But fast food has a high turnover rate and low standards. The only one that seems to get it right is chick filet.

Went to KFC today and it was great. Fast food places hire a lot of young kids who could care less about customer service. They don't invest much time in training them because of turnover rates. I have to admit Chick Fil A is the one exception. I've never had better customer service consistently from that place in my life anywhere else. That corporation has done an excellent job in hiring and training their staff.

I wholly agree. I've had the Wendy's burger low-carb and it's always paltry compared to Carl's Jr. Carl's also fully wraps the burger in lettuce, allowing you to just eat it with your hands, unlike Wendy's.
20+ years ago, when I lived in the Northern VA/DC area, it was called Roy Rogers . . . something of a combo of Hardee's and Arby's, if I recall correctly, but still part of the CJ's chain. I wish we had a CJ's here, because I know their food is better. But at least we have Hardee's!

I have had HORRIBLE experiences at KFC too! One time the guy had us waiting 5 minutes (inside) before even attempting to take our order. Then I try to order chicken strips and he just casually says "oh, we're out of those." no apology or anything. Like, couldn't you have told us that while we were standing here for 5 minutes waiting for you to do god know's what. They were not even busy.

For beef and broccoli most of the Chinese restaurants, they use corn starch, not keto friendly

@@84KingLouie Theres no MSG in Panda Express (unless its been added recently). Im highly allergic and I've never had a reaction when I used to eat there. And it does look like the grilled teriyaki chicken is pretty low carb so with no sauce that might be a good option actually
