I think it's profound having Margot, of all people, say she doesn't feel pretty. I get it. Even though the physical is somewhat objective, it's also completely subjective. A lot of the "feeling" of beauty comes from within yourself. I used to think I was hideous for some reason when I was younger. But now, 6 years later, I look back at old pictures of myself and think, "wow i looked so good..." My skin was clear, great cheek bones, slim, abs, great smile, beautiful eyes. Now that I'm older I can see all these really great things that I didn't even care about when I was younger because I was comparing myself to someone else. And I think when I'm in my 50s, I will look at my currently 30 year old self and probably be jealous of a lot of things I'm currently insecure about. That perspective really helps me. Although we, the viewers, look at Barbie as gorgeous, it doesn't matter unless she feels it for herself. She has to overcome that internally. No amount of compliments can give it to her. She has to recognize her own beauty and worth and only then will she embody it and believe it. Very strong message.
My mom went home after this and checked if these discontinued Barbies and Kens were real. Sugar daddy Ken never made it into stores but someone did design him.

Such expectations aren’t even thought of with other toys like teddy bears, little people, transformers or rag dolls. Barbie and other fashion dolls seem to be the only ones that get this criticism.
Soo sadly true!!! There is one more point they could have included: as women, we're supposed to put others' feelings first while suppressing and sacrificing our own emotional needs! And we're supposed to be speaking our minds but not at the expense of others' feelings. In suppressing the feminine, we're denying our very own humanity! Enough is enough. If we want to heal the world, we need to heal our hearts and nervous systems from trauma.
I feel the exact same way as Barbie. I’m not good at anything, I’m not a pro. I can make nice things, I can follow instructions but I’m not a trailblazer. I’m not good enough for anything. You know when you see a nice dish and it inspires you to go to culinary school and then you make perfect dishes? That could never be me, not even if I tried my best. My best is never good enough for anyone or anything, seriously. It’s why I always sit at home, why I’m alone. I’m not smart enough to be interesting, either.

I watched this movie with my girlfriend in theatres and... As a man I thought this scene was great, because in a weird way I do relate to a few of the points made, not on the same intended level of course because this movie was written by a woman, directed by a woman and was likely made for women. But expections of being exceptional and immediately knowing your purpose and direction in life is a universal message, because most people simply don't know it yet. Because expectations of men and women from the perspectives of men and women will always be expectations that we may eventually force onto ourselves. This scene is simply a woman's perspective on the impossible expectations they experience, a perspective I never thought I could ever understand since I'm not a woman. But I think since so many people can relate to this rant is proof of the fact that it's not a unique experience, and while that's sad, it does give me hope that both men and women can/will understand eachother better because of it.

WHY did they have to put that disclaimer on Margot's speech. it was completely valid for such a beautiful woman to say that she doesn't feel pretty THAT EVEN MORE VALIDATES THE MOVIE.
I think if someone tells you're not good enough, it's them who have insecurities and they invalidate you by putting themselves first. But in fact, they have a deep feeling of not loving themselves. They've been traumatised once
I remember being in the theater and putting my arm around my teenage daughter during this scene and I started noticing that the other Mom's was doing that too ❤
I am 23 and I bawled to her saying all that stuff . And how Margot said “I’m not good enough at anything and I’m not pretty enough” you don’t know how many times girls say that to themselves a day . I was crying and my husband was like what’s wrong …. I told him that’s how almost all of woman feel
I admire this movie the more I watch it for what Greta and all her gang acomplished, it was her vision, an auteur vision, many details that makes it indivual and yet spoke to massive audiences while spelling some truths that should be already the norm and yet they aren't. This movie is particularly valuable for young kids, is a manual for basic understanding on humanity.
That speech made me sad because being a woman should be beautiful... but the reality is, it's the toughest thing to be... a woman who knows herself and loves herself is hard and not often seen or found. But it doesn't have to be a myth or a mission! This scene was really good but the real thing will be to see how it impacts ppl truly.
1:13 I have mixed feelings about this movie overall. I love this scene and the song “What was I made for” has become one of my newest favorites. During this scene there was a guy who laughed so hard and loud at this that everyone laughed with him. The atmosphere in the theater had been tense because people weren’t sure what to make of the movie yet. Props to that guy, he lightened the mood. Hope he’s doing well. Also, I still can’t unhear Fawn from the Tinkerbell in this scene. America Ferrara voiced her in the first movie.
I've argued with like three different men about the meaning of this movie because for some reason they want to believe that it's just a movie about a doll. And it's like I don't know how you can watch this movie and not understand the messages it's trying to convey.
@dinahn6955 the connection is she has actually had a hard life and didn’t agree with the rich western women in this movie saying that it’s “impossible to be a woman”.

Hey what's wrong? What? You're so pretty. But, you're beautiful. You're so smart- It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like- we have to always be extraordinary.
But somehow we're always doing it wrong. You have to be thin, but not to thin. And you can never say you want to be thin, you have to say you want to be healthy. But also, you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can't ask for money. Because that's crass.
You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead but you can't squash other people's ideas. You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about you're kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman. But also, always be looking out for other people.
But always stand out. And always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged so find a way to acknowledge that. But also always be grateful.
You have to never get old. Never be rude. Never show off. Never be selfish. Never fall down. Never fail. Never show fear. Never get out of line. It's too hard! It's too contradictory! And nobody gives you a medal or says "Thank you"!
incredible moment in film history. Greta is awesome. America is amazing as was the film. I hope people learn from it. Women should rule the world. Don't tell anyone I said that, but I've been saying that since i saw Newt Gingrich in congress. What a douche. Just ask my wife.
Everything America says is True. I mean even the comment sections I get shouted at because I say something smart because my name is female. I kinda wonder if I had a male name if they wouldn't state anything? Hmm. Why does our culture restrict how women can act and behave? It actually makes us more prone to diseases because of societal stress and expectations. And that's effed up.
I just got called a roommate by my husband.. we've had 3 children , I had c-sections, nursed them all with no help. Our children are well adjusted great adults . I work 40 hours, still take care of everything. But I'm going thru menopause and my libido is not the same so I guess I have no value anymore . This just hits too hard . Thank you Greta 🥹

Great now I am crying again….😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤
That was from the soul 💔🥺
Extraordinary
The monologue itself starts at 1:52
I admire this movie the more I watch it for what Greta and all her gang acomplished, it was her vision, an auteur vision, many details that makes it indivual and yet spoke to massive audiences while spelling some truths that should be already the norm and yet they aren't. This movie is particularly valuable for young kids, is a manual for basic understanding on humanity.
This is the Best description I've heard of what it is to be a woman 💔
So a walking contradictions addicted to what others will think of them? Sounds narcisstic. I have better opinion on women.
@@piotrszwarc2564and what’s that?
Actualy, this speech is a perfect example of those who still support Amber Heard after she lied, and probably praise her like a saint for doing so
@@theoneinthehoood-ii4om interesting opinion. Why do you think that?
This scene alone should have brought her oscar nod. Congrats to America Ferrara though
LOL this movie won almost nothing, just for the music, Poor Things, anatomy of the fall and Oppenheimer are better
Watever Margot says is whats expected from top actresses today..fax
That speech made me sad because being a woman should be beautiful... but the reality is, it's the toughest thing to be... a woman who knows herself and loves herself is hard and not often seen or found. But it doesn't have to be a myth or a mission! This scene was really good but the real thing will be to see how it impacts ppl truly.
Inspiring!
So true what she said
The whole point of this movie flew over people's head smh 😞
I've argued with like three different men about the meaning of this movie because for some reason they want to believe that it's just a movie about a doll. And it's like I don't know how you can watch this movie and not understand the messages it's trying to convey.
So this is the scene everyone is talking about all around the world, the media, the blogs and so on?
New Winter And Dry Bowser’s Castle Battle Photos Coming Saturday 6th January 2024!
That was a mouthful, I can't hardly copy what she said. 2:14
She’s no longer an Actress,
She’s now a Movie Star ❤
Why did I just find out today that I was hearing Astrid’s voice the whole time
This movie is a movie for a toy for teenagers preschoolers and even toddlers but the casts are our mom and dad
I’m about to cry on the train
0:36 - 0:38 😂 Every dude needs a Growing Up Skipper!
0:06 Wait The Minute Is That Michael Cera From The Movie Scott Pilgrim
I can’t believe that girl was Young Ahsoka!!!! ❤
My fiancée told me after we saw the movie she didn’t really connect with this monologue . . . and she was born in a refugee camp in Thailand
@dinahn6955 the connection is she has actually had a hard life and didn’t agree with the rich western women in this movie saying that it’s “impossible to be a woman”.
I HAD THE ONE WITH THE PURPLE DRESS
Seeing barbie broken hurt me cause i,m a 36 year old single butt i respect america ferrera,s speech respect i say😢👏👏👏
Ariana Greenblatt & America Ferrera were Former Disney/Disney Channel Stars
Im not pretty anymore
Im not stereotypical barbie pretty
Its not just that.. im not.. smart enough to be interesting
I can’t do brain surgery
I’ve never flown a plane
Im not the president
No one on the Supreme court is me
Im not good enough for anything
Hey what's wrong?
What? You're so pretty.
But, you're beautiful.
You're so smart-
It is literally impossible to be a woman.

I Timothy 1:9-10,
i am a man and my life
has disappointed me,
but i thank God for it
And ALWAYS be grateful…my ex mil used to say this 🙄 why are we women always the ones expected to be grateful ?? 🤪🙄🔫
Anyone find it insane how Ariana Greenblatt looks so much like America Ferrara.
1:51 - 4:09
incredible moment in film history.
I would love some one to talk to me.. I was not alllowed to have a Barbie
Astrid Haddock speech
I just got called a roommate by my husband.. we've had 3 children , I had c-sections, nursed them all with no help. Our children are well adjusted great adults . I work 40 hours, still take care of everything. But I'm going thru menopause and my libido is not the same so I guess I have no value anymore . This just hits too hard . Thank you Greta 🥹
