Thanks for being here! ❤️
Nice, CT resident here as well. Just planted some of those same beans, the blue lake 274. Those & golden wax.
Here's a little tip for germinating seeds super fast & knowing which seeds are good & bad.
The bush beans I planted today had large tap roots growing on them in less than 24hrs. I put them in a 1% hydrogen peroxide water solution, 8oz water & 15ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide. I started using this germination process this year & have been blown away by how fast seeds germinate. Tap roots in less than 24hrs. Into the soil they go & in less than 48hrs average, I have the 1st set of leaves. And so far, the plants look great & are growing fast. If after 48 hrs seeds don't germinate, I transfer them to a moist paper towel sealed in a zip lock bag for another 2-3 days. At that point the majority sprout & I don't bother planting the ones that haven't I tried leaving those that didn't show tap roots for extended time in the moist towel but they never germinated.
So this method helps me put seeds in the ground that I know for sure are going to sprout & spout in less than a week, from seed to plant (1st set of leaves) in 3-4 days average.
Happy growing! 😊🧑🌾
Awesome! Thanks for sharing that. It's good you found a method that works well for you. I usually just stick the dry seeds in the soil and they germinate in 5-7 days, longer if it's cool out. 😊
Green beans are so much fun to grow
They really are one of my favorites! I grow so many varieties. 😊
No need to pre soak the beans, cool. Nice demo
Thanks! 😊
In my experience, those blue lake beans only take like 3 days to sprout
What spacing do you do per plant in container? I'm planning on 3 per 3 gallon bucket. Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance
I grow a lot of bush beans in containers and I think that will work just fine! Planting them in the middle of the container within a couple inches of each other will work fine and just like with all container gardening, make sure that they don't dry out. I grow Royal Burgundy Beans like that too! ruclips.net/user/shorts0mM-ocq9hWE?si=sw2K2Ni9-306AOJ5 🪴
I have 2 plants in one hole. Do I need to trim it?
If both the seeds I sow in one hole sprout, I usually leave them and they do fine. 😊 You can thin it back to one if you prefer, or carefully separate them, but you don't have to. 🪴
But you didn’t nick the end off the seeds with a razor blade
Nope... I did not. 😳
