Great idea for my “2” beans I grew on my first try.
Girl, I'm going to grow some, dry some out in the shell, and make me some earrings too. So cute!
I literally just noticed them😂😂 Nothin says green thumb like green bean earrings!
Great video n love those earrings ❤❤❤
Thank you! First time Florida bean grower here!
You corrected a mistake I was making!!
Thank you!
Thank you for mentioning Zones in your comment.
4:39 - Love your Sunflower hat! 😅
When I clicked on the video and saw your earrings I smiled😊. Great info…thx!
ha ha thanks!
Harvested my first yard long beans, and now I’m hooked! Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks. Always love learning more about gardening in Florida! 💚🌱
Yay! I have a how to grow yard long beans video in the works so stay tuned.
Blue Lake Bush beans....eazy...delicious
Yes they are a good cultivar!
Hi Jerra, You are a talented gardener! I wish I had your Green Thumb! Best, Albert, SF, CA
Hi and welcome to my channel. Happy to share my knowledge.
Thank you for being so to the point, yet so incredibly thorough.
I agree!!
Thank you Jerra! Love you earrings too.
Those earrings sure were cute, weren't they? Caught my eye right off too.
Thanks!
Great video you make it easy to watch
Very thorough and detailed video. Thank you so much! I like your ear rings too :D
Oh thank you!
awesome earrings. thanks for sharing your video. nice garden.
I love the earrings. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
You are so welcome!
This Grandpa noticed those earrings also, although I wouldn't be caught anything, except dead, wearing them. Look cute on you! I'm a new gardener in Zone 9B, very south edge of Chandler AZ. Vegetables of the season in 8 sq.ft. raised beds. 10 planned, 7 complete currently.
Nice and welcome to my channel.
Thank you for the informative video!!! Do you have a video for how you preserve your beans?
You are so right! My first year I did fish fertilization and it caused my bush beans to not give me any greenbeans ! I was devastated. Now I just use my chicken compost in the dirt before I plant my seeds and leave them to just produce and spray when needed .
Yup exactly.
Thanks for the tips! I am growing pole beans for the first time (Kentucky Wonder) and these tips are great! Thanks. Love the earrings. 💚
Happy to share what I know. Kentucky Wonder is a great variety.
You are the best! Thanks!
thanks for the upload! Trying bush beans for the first time!
I feel like you were listening in on a conversation I was having with my son just a few hours age. 😅 He said he was planting bush beans this weekend but I think he should wait until August or September as we are in zone 10A.
I planted in mid February and they did well except for all the holes in the leaves. Im thinking it was those white moths that come out at night as I never saw any bugs on them, but I’m not positive.
New to Florida gardening, appreciate the tutorials. 😃
Your welcome! I'm Orlando zone 9B so yea, your area gets hotter than mine. Try growing yard longs beans right now and then switch back to regular bush/pole beans in September.
Thank you! Love the earrings too!
Yay! Thank you!
Hi Jerra, just came across your channel this evening, I live in South Africa, I'm just about to start growing Beans for the first time, so really enjoyed your video, keep them coming:)
Too cute string bean earringsss Thanks for the tips
You are a blast of rapid fire information - can tell you really know your stuff first hand. Subbed!
Thanks! I to get straight to the point 😄
I really loved the flavor and texture of Gold Rush beans.
I will have to research this one :)
This was great because this year my tomatoes, cukes and zucchini are going into the ground but I am growing bush beans in containers. I was unsure how many per pot etc. So comprehensive and complete. thanks!
Great video. Thanks for sharing! LOL @ the green bean earrings.
LOL Thanks!
One of the easier YT videos to follow! Thank you... let's hope your advice holds true in Tokyo!
I grow several in south NC northeastern are big and i grow french filet bush beans also and but i love them all i like the pythons for pickleing
Thank you for this video! From zone 3a, Baudette Minnesota ❤
Thanks for watching!
I'm growing contender and provider bush beans this year for the 3rd time. I've noticed the edges of a leaf on my blackeyed pea plant, was thewed up, I was wondering what it was, and now I know that must be the leaf roller. I don't have to worry because it's only one or two leaves. I'm very excited to grow beans this year. I'm growing them in pots, Thank you for the tips!
Your very welcome! Black eyed peas are tough plants. A few chewed up leaves here and there shouldn't be enough to affect anything.
You explain so well for beginner gardeners and I've watched a ton of videos.
Aww thanks! Happy to share what I know.
Great information Jenna truly appreciated
Thanks for such a thorough education! This is so helpful!
Glad you liked it!
Great info. Thanks for producing and sharing. I'm trying to focus on beans this year. I appreciate your lecture and demonstrations.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this summary. I buy two types of pole/French beans with different maturing dates. This way I get a longer harvest period. I grow them in a very large pot on my deck using a tripod made of bamboo canes. This frees up my limited vegetable growing space in the garden.
Regards J
Great idea! I have seen the bamboo setup work well for peas/snow peas too.
Thanks for the tips. I just harvested garlic and looking for something to fill the space. Im in RI I really like your ear rings 😅
Very nice Jerra, love the earrings! We grow beans mostly for the developed beans inside and not the pod. They are great for storing over the year and using for soups, stews and if you use plant based cooking they can be great for baking etc. I did grow some nice bush beans this year too and found one much better than the others I trialed, they were Modesto, Hidalgo wasn't bad either. We live in the Scottish Borders so we only have the spring and summer to grow, by the end I'm praying for not so much rain so my pods can finish swelling!
Thanks for the suggestions, I will research those cultivars.
You totally answered almost Answered all of my question That there's NO pruning needed Other than pinching, if they get too tall, and or rough spot/issues, But what do I do about the 3 foot long center Vine that's coming between the main stem and the regular leaves ( I said leaves because each stem has three leaves per stem😅) so Do you know why there's 3 feet long?Because now about 10 feet up I can see flowers starting the last flowers I had were when the plant was 3 feet tall.I had a bunch of beans pop up that were smaller not 15cm but still ripe, They were growing literal 15cm But nowhere else on the entire plant that I can for sure see.I have 5 plants that are all 15+ feet tall I don't know exactly because I have been wrapping them around my arched trellis (trellis is 8-9 feet tall) My beans are wrapped around entire trelling One side and halfway down the other side🤦🏽♀️😅😂
So glad I found you! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge and expertise and enthusiasm 😊 🥕 🫘 🥗
Welcome to my channel! Happy to share what I know.
From the ones depicted it looks like the yellow wax bean. We call them butter beans because you either blanche or steam them and then get on a pan and fry up with some butter and that is sooo delicious.
I love your earring! Thanks for the info.
You are so welcome!
Jerra I love your videos!!
Thanks!
Thank you!! so informative, I now know what’s wrong with my pole bean plants and how to fix it. Also what not to do next time I plant.
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative..
Thanks for sharing…
Just connected….
Salute!🍃🍃😎
Hello and welcome
I really appreciate you even tho I'm in NC your tips help so much continue to post ❤
Thank you! Will do!
Thanks for this great video. As always, I learn agreat deal. I was surprised you don't use Neem oil as you said it burned the leaves. I never put two and two together! Also in Orlando zone 9B. I grew Guyana yard long last year and they were amazing. I didn't get beans till the fall though. I also didn't realize you could put the seeds so close together. I will go out and add some more seeds!
I have also tried out the Guyana yard long. I'm going to guess you got it from Cody Cove Farms which is such an interesting resource for tropical crops. They did ok for me.
There was only a one size fits all big thumbs up button but I did my best. Hopefully this one is bigger 👍
Thanks!
Such a great informative video, thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome 😊
You planted the seeds very close together! Do you ever need to thin the bean plants?
nice beans you have\
Very good video. Where I am Japanese beetles are the problem. Use a trap about 30 feet away to lure them away from the garden. I grow Fostex pole beans, pole beans are AWESOME producers! I don't blanch them, I just pop them in a gallon freezer bag and put in the freezer!
I often wonder how the beans would turn out if I just froze them instead of par boiling first etc.... When you take them out of the freezer, do they have freezer burn?
No freezer burn. I just plop them into a pot of water and boil for about 10 minutes. I use zip lock freezer bags which are thicker than regular storage bags. @@JerrasGarden
Great info. I’m planting green beans and Dixie white butter peas today. They taste similar to butter beans but are less mealy. They love hot weather. So might do well in FLA. Hard to find though. I pick them very young, they are still a little green. They are so delicious.
Great video.
I will have to try growing Dixie white butter beans. Sounds delicious.
@@JerrasGarden White Dixie Butterpeas. They are a cross between a pea and butterbean. So Butterpea. Haha I hope you enjoy them.
So thankful to find your channel 😊newer gardener
Welcome!
I grew French beans for the first time this summer. It's my favourite veg and I was so happy with the results. So many beans with very little work. The variety I grew was called "Cobra" which is a pretty popular variety in the UK due to it being so prolific. Next year I plan on growing those again and I'd also like to grow a yellow variety of French beans as I think the two varieties will look great on the plate.
Nice video and great earrings.
Thanks! I will have to research that bean variety.
@@JerrasGarden On the Red Garden's channel (based in Ireland) the guy did a whole lot of French bean testing and his most productive was a variety called "Emerite" which he showed to be even more productive than "Cobra". Unfortunately nowhere stocks Emerite seeds in the UK. I think the seeds were given to Red Gardens from someone in the USA. So you could probably get hold of those. I'd try Emerite if I could but for now I'll have to stick with Cobra. Which I'm OK with as Cobra gave me more beans than I could use anyway.
Hi, I live in the Scottish Borders and have tried Cobra this year. I was trying to grow them for the black beans inside but only a few really got that developed. I was so disappointed but with what you said maybe I should just grow them as green beans?
@@marymcandrew7667 Not sure how good a harvest you would get for the black beans with Cobra. Haven't tried. To me they are a bean for eating green. I have saved a few fully formed dried pods purely for using for growing next year but this was just an afterthought as I still have loads of the seeds in the packet I bought. I'm not sure how much in total weight I got but about 12 plants has given enough beans for a family of 3 for 3 months. I also gave quite a lot away to family and and friends. Next year I will probably grow a few extra plants purely for seed so I don't have to buy any more.
I love your earrings! How many seeds could I put in a 5 gallon grow bag??
the earrings 🔥🔥🔥
Here in New Mexico I find the bush variety Big Kahuna produces well even with our hot summers. I love the name too, just makes me laugh 😁
I tried this variety and it didn't produce much for me. Maybe I need to try again because if it grows in Mexico it should grow where I am at.
Awesome video! Very informative!
Thank you for watching!
????I'm using stakes in a old bathtub? Should I hang neting too????
Love your earrings!😊
Thank you! 😊
One of my favorite green beans is Cupidon. They are very tender with complex flavor profile. There flavor is brought out by lightly cooking or fermenting.
Wow thank you for the suggestion. I had to google this one and it truly sounds delicious. I'm going to try growing it next season.
@@JerrasGarden You are welcome. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Just watched an MIGardener video. His uncle is a bean farmer. Long story short, studies show that if you fertilize the beans as soon as they emerge (with nitrogen) they'll produce more, a lot more. But don't fertilize after that. If you do, then it'll slow production. Also, letting even one bean get past maturity slows or even stops production. You can also get a decent crop with as little as 4 hours of sun. I grow in 5 gallon buckets (4 in each), two rows, in 4 to 5 hours of sun, mostly dappled, and get enough to can quite a bit.
The old standby is white-half runner or blue lake bush beans. I live in zone 7 turned zone 8 when they up dated zones. Our temperature runs from -3 to 105 July and August the hot high humidity and January and February the coldest. Our average temperatures are 24 low and 97 high. Do you have a guide for beginner on what size and what plants to start with.
Can you plant green beans in-between onions
Trying beans for the second time this season. Last year I was too late and my short Norwegian season didn't get more than a few leaves. This year I'm both starting indoors and outside hoping to figure out the best method for my area. I'm in zone 4 so I know timing will be of the essence. Looking forward to this experiment. I want to add more nutrition both to my food and to my garden.
Wow I cant even imagine growing in zone 4. I'm very lucky to be able to grow year round here in Florida.
Neem oil is best used in the morning, not in the heat of the day. In my zone 10, in the AZ dessert, our water has a lot of salt in it. I learned beans hate the salt so I try to use rainwater or RO water. It's a hassle for just a few beans.
I have tried neem in the morning and evening and still burned my plants. If it works for you then that is awesome. Wish it was the case for me.
I came here for the green bean earrings!
LOL
I use jade beans as a cover crop because here in New Jersey they grow eve up until like November as long as no snow. So I plant them inside august and plant them late august where my hot loving plants die to replace nitrogen
Good idea
Earrings are dope
Can I grow bush beans indoor?
At what length can I harvest my yard long beans? My beans are 26 inches long now!
try kentuckey blue pole beans. there a cross of kentuckey wonder and blue lake. fantastic flavor and straigth uniform beans.
Hi. Are green beans the same as the hard beans we find in the stores that we have to boil over an hour to get soft?
Those are dried shelling beans. Pretty much any green bean can be allowed to dry out and you shell out the beans. However, some varities are better than others for this. The green beans shown in this video are best for eating the entire fresh pod.
What about Italian green beans, how easy is it to grow those and do know where I can get the seeds? They’re much thicker.
Do you mean the Romano pole beans? They are flat and meaty?
2:38 pm Binghamton NY
My pole beans are gorgeous, lush and green but not a single flower/beans yet. Help! Any ideas?
You just have to wait. They will flower when they are ready. It takes 2-3 months from seed. Or they stop flowering if its too hot.
I’m going to can my beans this year…at least those that we don’t eat fresh. I pressure canned just a few pints last year, thinking I wouldn’t like them much and I was so surprised at how good they were! I added a little salt, dehydrated garlic and onion and they were delicious. Previously I had blanched them, lay them out on a cookie sheet to freeze, and then bagged them up and stored in the freezer. The texture and flavor, really, the overall quality, just wasn’t there for me. Thank you for posting a great video!
If my pole beans leaves have a moderate amount of rust and the spines of the pods are dark with small rust spots on some areas of the beans, should I avoid eating them?
Zone 7 has extremely hot and humid summers
Cute earrings
Thank you 😊
I planted my first beans in July of this year in a small pot indoors. Several leaves sprouted so I put the the pot outside but the leaves wilted and drooped within a few hours. I thought it was an outdoor plant. Was it too sunny for the young bean leaves or should I put it elsewhere in the shade?
I'm going to guess it was shock from not being slowly acclimated to the out doors. Beans are very easy to direct sow though.
Thanks for this info. Green beans only take 6 weeks to harvest so why would you go back 4 mos. from your first frost date in the fall? 2 mos. should be plenty AFAIK.
How do you orient your rows? North South or East West?
I dont pay much attention to that. I just make sure the alignment doesnt block out sun from adjacent rows if that makes sense. People say short plants should be planted north to south while taller plants east to west....the important thing is to maximize sunlgiht reach on each row/plant.
A good productive bush green bean for the northern states would be Providers. The beans grow in clusters so you can reach in the bush in one spot to find the ones ready to pick, rather than hunt throughout the bush. Another good producer is the Contender, but I haven't been able to find it for years. But if you are looking for a good, hearty bean for Southern style, simmering all day long in a pot with a ham hock, the Roma, or "flat Italian" is my choice.
The 3/4 pvc joint will fit on the T post? I thought the T post is bigger than that.
Not the T posts I get from Home Depot or Tractor Supply. I slide the electrical conduit pole all the way thru the hole and the T post top hits that so it doesn't slide down anymore.
@@JerrasGarden ok that makes so. Ty so much 🌸
Hard to hear. Any way to increase the sound on your end. Mine was up to full volume. Good info.
I will check my video but unfortunately I cant go back in to adjust volume
I appreciate you checking. I did want to hear what you were sharing.@@JerrasGarden
Did you plan on those sunflowers above your head? @ 4.45
I have tons of sunflowers that just reseed around but I also plant some too. I cant remember about those behind me specifically. But I usually have them growing almost year round in my garden.
Try Rattlesnake pole beans, Monte Gusto yellow pole bean, French Filet bush beans, Roma II Italian flat bush beans.
Rattlesnake pole beans are one of my favorites
I don’t see the link for the vinyl mesh trellis.
Here is the link: tinyurl.com/2pwfac84
I've found that seeds have everything they need to pop and grow for a while. I don't fertilize for a couple weeks after planting. 👽✌️
What brand of fertilizer do you use in the beginning stage for the green beans?
I use Jobes or Espoma brand tomato tone organic granular fertilizer for just about everything. I sprinkled in some in the trenches before I planted the seed.
I'm making my first attempt at growing anything with bush beans. I have no idea how much to water them.
I planted way too many beans together. Should I tear it out, and re plant?
I cram bean seeds in and never had a problem. I would have to see a picture of how crammed yours are.
@@JerrasGarden I wish I had the option to send a pic…
