    I've had good MIG results with inserting a thin-walled sleeve inside the joint, to back the weld. Works well to butt weld tubes end-to-end.

      Para qué si con ese logró soldarlo. Que no hizo un cordón continuo? No es necesario. Ésto no es una prueba para la aws, es para una estructura liviana. Te aseguro que quedó bien fuerte.

      We all know that but thin rods like 1.6mm are not usually available in local stores and are generally more expensive. The video uploader only wants to show that it can still be done with regular-size rods by applying a technique.

      ​ Huh if the store carries rods more than not they carry a variety.yes bigge rods can be used in a pinch but it took longer and isn't the correct way,So if showing others an ability show them a good one. Just saying

    Hi I am new at welding. May i ask something. I always see people in the comments section talking about slag inclusion with this technique. Would this stop, start technique cause slag inclusions?

    I'm using the thinnest E6013 rod I can find (1.6mm), have tried starting at 20 amps, all that does is stick to the piece. And when you go higher, it starts to blow holes in the f'n pipe like you are shooting it with a .22... I don't get how it's possible to arc weld paper thin exhaust. All these videos show thicker exhaust than what's on these cars.

      Were you ever able to figure it out? Did you try to reversing polarity? I'm not sure how thick your exhaust pipe was but I've had luck welding 17ga (1.4mm) steel with 1/16th 6013s rods & reversed polarity. I haven't tried anything thinner yet but was able to weld that with a continuous bead & not burn through. I was getting the best results around 28amps but my machine is on the cheap side so I'm not certain what the actual amps are.

    Am I the only one who noticed that the second pipe was cut out to have less gap to fill? Was a good job though I've used it before.

    This is an an example of how NOT to weld with a dc machine.
    What he should of been teaching you is how Reverse Polarity works which give you 66% less heat at the end of the electrode.
    Remove twist + an - leads out of machine look at the ends they are the same size for this reason, Reverse them putting them back in, Yes electrode in - hole an clamp in + hole. Now its time to learn what to adjust your amps too.
    a 2mm electrode runs downhand at about 75 amps when polarity is NOT reversed now that its reversed divide by 3 which is telling you to set amps at 25 amps, Test try an adjust if nessary, one thing to note is always keep clamp the same distance from each weld you are doing as the more distance you put it it will slightly lower the amps at electrode tip.
    NOTE The clamp end is now putt the other 66% current into the weld so if not tight enough or put on dirty surface the clamp will get very HOT. And the - is not an never was an an EARTH its normaly the loa current side of DC. YES YOU CAN USE A MIG/TIG BUT WHEN I WENT TO TEC THEY WEREN'T INVENTED,ONLY SUB ARC FOR AUTOMATIC WELDING BACK THEN.
    This will only work on DC machines AC does not have this advantage.
    IF you are buying a new dc welder you can find some with a polarity switch on the front of the so so don't have to swaps leads , but is usualy the first thing to break is the switch

      You are 100% wrong in your ramble.
      Most stick welding with a consumable electrode (SMAW), is done with REVERSE polarity, DCEP, which runs 2/3 of the moving electrons through the rod, and 1/3 of the moving electrons through the ground clamp.
      Straight polarity, DCEN, is the exact opposite. It runs 1/3 of the flowing electrons through the consumable Rod, and 2/3 of the moving electrons through through the ground clamp. And that is what you would use to weld thin wall tubing.
      So that’s a part of this guy’s problem. The other part is that this clown making this instructional video didn’t cope his pipe before he started welding them together. Even with reverse polarity if your pipe is coped properly, and you have good fitment of the two adjoining pieces, you can get a decent weld.
      This is what makes RUclips so dangerous. You have people posting videos that don’t know what they’re re doing, and then people posting comments, that don’t know what they’re talking about.

    JUST USE A SMALLER ROD/ LOWER AMPS. BAD WELD, TWO MANY PICK UP POINTS = NO PROPER FUSION AND POROSITY.

      Lighter gauge rods are not often readily available like e6013. You got what you got. However there is merit to using additional materials in order that you can get better fusion without the risk of blowing holes in your pipe. You can use stripped rods to do that if you must.

      6010 is probably too aggressive for this. He probably used 6013 DCEN setting. I have a vintage Lincoln buzz box so, I'm sort of thinking along those lines.

    I just spot weld and still metal just melts right away. Stick is 2mm at 40Amps

    ppl dont know the technique of stick welding on thin pipes because it isnt commonly used, and thats for an obvious reason, generally you would use mig or tig for thinner material

      Generally yes cause it’s easier. And they can’t bring themselves to learn to lift or turn it down. But I’ve welded airboat cages with stick on 1/2” and 3/4” emt pipe perfectly. For very cheap, very fast… don’t point out faults if it works perfectly for someone else and not you.

      @@MrT13 1st off no need to get toxic i never said what this man was doing is wrong nor did i say he was bad at it, i was simply saying that "stick tack welding" isnt commonly used for obvious reasons so no need to get butthurt there snowflake, second i never mentioned that ive done it nor am i bad at stick tack welding, ive never practiced "tack welding with stick" because something like that would not work on thicker metal such as 3/8ths inch or half inch and so on which is what i general use, it would immediately get snapped in a bend test, im certified for stick, mig and tig so its not like i dont know what im talking about, yes stick tacking can be used for thinner material as a cheaper alternative but it has nothing to do with people not bringing themselves to it, the reason people dont know it is because it isnt commonly used and thats for an obvious reason nor is it convienent for most things and if someone uses this technique without understanding it they can damage the material / what ever u are welding on and causing more damage than possible fixing

      One day maybe I’ll only ever turn on my a welder if I need 300 amps or more lol. But until then I’ll just keep using my old 210 for light stuff and buzz box for everything else. My bad for my butthurt. I thought we were talking about reality.

    Don't talk bullshit: "Very few people know this", how can you say something so false? Have you surveyed the vast world population of welders? Those bits of pipe you demonstrated on were not even properly prepared for welding, and your weld was not even rateable for quality. Reminds me of a You Tuber teaching the world how go sharpen a drill, "Hardly anyone knows how to sharpen a drill", he titled his presentation.

      If you want to talk about an inaccurate statement continue claiming that his statement is wrong. What do you think is the percentage of the population that welds is? An intelligent guest would be less than half of 1% then go from there and you can see how incorrect you are
