Whatever people may say Wizard magazine was the go to guide and news of the early 90’s. I remember being a big collector then and always bought at least 5 of there top ten. Now that I think about it the magazine did influence my consumer purchases back then as a young teen.

Great magazine! I loved the satire like Twisted Mego theatre and there was a photo story of the Silver Surfer(actually a guy covered in tin foil) warning the staff at Wizard of the coming of Galactus. They ignore the warning and rip off the tin foil revealing the Surfer is made of popcorn, which they all consume. Genius!!

You know, it's kinda funny when I first found this channel I actually went into a book store, might have been Barnes and Noble and asked the person there if they carried Wizard magazine for comics and they looked at me like I was from the fucking Stone age. Lol
You know, I know it's hard to gauge comic book values due to the market and what people are just willing to pay for something like on eBay, but it would be pretty damn dope to see Wizard magazine or something like it make a comeback.. even how DC has there monthly magazine, Overstreet should look into doing something like it, I bet they'd be surprised to see how good it would probably do.. as long as the article's in them are relevant and basically lay the groundwork for upcoming comics or first appearances I think the sky would be the limit for it.. but maybe this is just wish full thinking.. lol

Wizard was a super fun read. Their writers were actually funny and the reviews were great. They did a 100 best comics stories list and I tracked down all of them. I stopped reading when they stopped doing negative reviews. There was a letter from a reader that asked why they didn't do negative reviews any more and Wizard editorial actually said "we don't want to say bad things about a comic because it might be someones favorite comic." What?!? Not something you want to hear from a magazine giving "honest" opinions and reviews.

I believe it did fuel the speculation market and possibly got paid additional funds for covertly pushing image and valiant comics to speculators and comic book fans. I too 1st saw Wizard on the shelf of my LCS, back in September of 1991. That cover and the articles had me hooked. I have every issue except for about 8.
But I have to say the monthly price guide I loved the most back then and actually around for five years before that in 1986 was Comic Values Monthly, or CVM as it was more commonly known. The value increases and decreases were better, more accurate and moved more month to month in this magazine. It was awesome. Later on it included more articles and market reports.

The main reason I bought and read Wizard, during the time he was a contributing writer, was the wit and humor of Jim McLaughlin. The letters to the editor column he authored was a must read if you wanted a good laugh. In addition he wrote two to three articles an issue. He’s the one component of the magazine I miss the most. It quickly went downhill after he left.

I still have my Justice League membership card, but I doubt I have the issue it came. Should have kept them all!
