- Johann Strauss jr. - Die Fledermaus - "Mein Herr Marquis". Royal Opera House Covent Garden 1984. Hildegarde Heichele as Adele, Herman Prey as Eisenstein, Kiri Te Kanawa as Rosalinde, Doris Soffel as Prince Orlofsky. Placido Domingo conductor
The only Adele I have found so far who actually laughs as if she means it. Lovely voice.
I saw this live on New Year's Eve I think either 1983 or 84 at Covent Garden with Placido Domingo conducting. It was a great evening and Adele was spot on. Everygody was in great form and great voice and the jokes in the second act were wonderful. And even domingo chipped in and sang a couple of notes!!! A great time was had by all both the cast and the audience.
i love her actual laughs in this song!
I loved this production - checked it out from the library..
so wonderful, and they had special guests/ ballet in the middle. the ballet to spring waltz or somesuch - was superb.
Yes, It is Benjamin Luxon. I actually saw this production, with Kiri Te Kanawa and Herrnann Prey and Placido Domingo conducting. It was great fun!!
Oh wie sehr habe ich es als Kind geliebt ..... "Die Fledermaus"
:O the costumes are so lush
Very good singing and acting. Brava!
Chanté avec tellement de grâce !!
Wonderful interp.
Isnt she lovable! I always feel happy when I listen to this.
One of the best...
ich meine das ist wunderbar :)
That was pure talent. :D
Amazing.
magnifico!!!
It is a girl. Shes playing a pants part (or a girl playing a boy). The part calls for a high tenor and there are very few high tenors and so women step in to play the part. If you listen to a guy playing the part you'll see what I mean about a high tenor...its kind of insane. And there is your opera lesson of the day =)
She is in tune. She is a little strained at the top, yes, but still sells the song. I own this version, and based on her performance in her first aria, which was much clearer, and on her body language at the end of this aria, I think she knew something was "off" in her performance here.
But, as an amateur singer, I someday hope to be as good as she is when she is "off!"
It must have been great... I've got a video recording of Le Nozze from Glyndebourne (1973, I believe) with Luxon and Te Kanawa (and other wonderful performers), and I absolutely adore it. It's a pity I'm far too young to have been able to see either of these productions live.
Mother of musicals (literal)
This song is known popularly as "The Laughing Song."
but like most famous operettas it's NOT german BUT AUSTRIAN! liebe grüsse aus österreich :)
Just realised I knew Ben Luxon in my student days.
The final note was a touch shrill, but overall very fetching. I love her risata (or however the expression translates in German). A frothy confection, thanks for posting.
i think the same thing. i've noticed it in the first part. and i'm not a specialist. maybe i'm wrong.
@minieinstein319 underenergized and strained at the top? yes. out of tune? no. she got it up there eventually. but i think that if we only comment negatively without offering anything nice or constructive to say, then there's really no point in commenting, is there?
Exelente me encató XD
:p
@musicalluver101 likewise! It is truly lovely though :o) Marvelous lyric coloratura piece.
Of course!
Look. Adele was alive before the other one was born!
she goes sharp and gusty in many places... second or third cast, at best - the best is lucia popp
@Kali Hardwick cause it wasn't a C?
You're right. But I can´t abstract from the fact that she must have paid dearly for her dental work.
como se llama la soprano?
來看老外的歌仔戲喔!! 小約翰史特勞斯的經典之作....
@lisilein2 One should be able to understand opera if it's sung right. Luckily I don't speak German anyway :P
Jochen Kowalski is the Orlofsky, no?
i think its a little too spaced out in phraces but otherwise its really good
it's around the high d--never really on it for too long.
Is that Benjamin Luxon as Dr. Falke?
Who's the bald person ? I swear thats a girl...
mortal vos poderosa buena
Her high C at the end didn't do it for me!
sorry, but I speak german and I can't understand one word of what she's singing.
that's a bit anoying.
I mean I know it's opera but still...
however she sounds nice.
I thought it was pretty damn good. It's no easy feat to sing that D.
Orlovsky is written for MEZZO- SOPRANO!!!!
really?I don't think so! >_
The laughing song haha
Nice voice but she's not a chamber maid.
I like Kiri te Kanawa's version better
Naja ist doch im Grunde das gleiche :D (PS: Willkommen im Reich xDDDD) @ sylandarnie
All people not perfect, and Hildegard Heichele is fantastic actress, singer, and negative comment , no good, because she sing in Convent Garden of corse the people in teathe like and pricipalment the director Placido Domingo too. They sing in a good teather ? with a good singers? ok.
Yeah and the only operet lanquist is german even I´m finish !
l-o-l
git bi an önce kendine sigortalı düzgün maaşlı bi iş bul sana tavsiyem :)
is just me, or is she not really singing the right notes a lot of the time? this is kind of ishy vocally.... nice tone, I guess, but awful pitch. and what the crap is with the botched D at the end? I usually don't leave scathing comments like this, but holy man....
eşek hoşaftan ne anlar :)
@cloudy0317 u int xizobb tifhem
