Around the 6:40 mark, “Don’t get any giant spiders on me please!” 😂😂 My exact same mantra! Love small stream fly fishing, but don’t like the spiders. Another amazing video with a perfect soundtrack. Thank you for taking the music out.
Great series. I love watching native fish being caught in their original drainages. I have been on a quest since I retired to catch brookies in all of the states where brook trout were originally found. Your videos inspire me to get out there and try harder.
@@hardmanfishing Tbh, I wish I had started earlier as time and circumstances may get in the way of me finishing but I think I have targeted populations of native brookies in most of the states except a couple. Good luck to you.

Totally mesmerizing environment. I enjoyed waiting to see what you pulled out of the water. I also was sort of expecting to see one of those veggie eating dinosaurs. Awesome video.
Beautiful, a wetter version of tiny creek fishing in the Rocky Mountain foothills and Eastern Slopes, SW of Calgary. Took a 6 year old and his dad bushwhacking down a perfect cutthroat stream while bikepacking earlier this summer. Absolutely epic son and dad moments, plus loads of brutal rod navigation through the trees and willows.
You'll find rainbow, west slope cutthroat and the coastal version of both (steelhead and sea run cuts) also we have bull trout and dolly varden. Cutty was eating a sculpin! Cool video!
Not to scare you, but I learned the hard way when I moved out west and started fishing those rural areas…. Washington has a huge mountain lion population. You think of grizzly bears in Montana / Wyoming, but you gotta respect the cougars in the PNW! The are you were in has regular closings due to lion activity.
Mountain lions/ cougars are tricky with a bear or coyote you'll see them & can avoid contact, cougars not so,them little sneaky tirds can stalk you & pounce before you see them, just be cautious 🤙
@@Beardedfurflingeryeah very true, Luckly ive only seen lions from boats or car in the dnr lol, id make a coyote my pet dog if i saw a lion in front of me
The thing that cutty spit out at 18:18 was a sculpin! They’re in pretty much every river this side of WA and the trout are always eating them! Sculpzilla ftw!!!
I moved to Oregon 2 years ago because I traveled for work and worked up in the gorge area. That allowed me to find streams in both states and I was hooked I love it here.
Awesome content!! I really enjoy your videos!! A few of our best wild trout creeks here in Wv still have flow even though Wv has been going through a horrible drought this year. I’m sure you are aware. As you know some of our creeks waters come out of the hills and springs, it’s an amazing thing even with no rain. I believe our streams and trout are going to be ok. Thanks!!!
Whoops we've all made that mistake, wonder up what we thought was the creek, again another awesome video, those small waters are a frick'n hoot,I broke down & got a 3 weight 8' glass rod & small click & pawl reel, getting back to my roots & loving the simplicty of it,keep on producing great videos, tight lines 🤙🇺🇸
The magic land where a 10 inches is a trophy for a resident trout! It can be disheartening for the new angler to the area to not spot big fish in those spring fed sections. Good job on finding this waterfall. Like you did, fishing streamers and big dries is the way to filter through little ones. Probably coho, chinook and steelhead fry in the mix.
That thing that the cutthroat spat up was a sculpin! One of the main foods for trout in this area of the states. A killer pattern to catch big trout pre winter up here!
Cool to see you fish my home waters. I didn’t start fly fishing till I started working out in Montana guiding the big horn. ( if you ever wanna come out I’ll take you on a float for free.) wish I would’ve fly fished at home before I left though. ( big fish eatin streamers here on the big horn atm )
We have a good amount of both rainbow and cutthroat here in WA. So it's not surprising to get cutbows here and there. We even get sea-run cutthroat, which are only found here in PNW between NorCal and southern Alaska.
Western Washington is a tough place to trout fish if you're looking for anything of size. The best consistent trout fishing is in alpine lakes or above impassible waterfalls where trout populations don't have to compete with salmon, steelhead, coastal cutthroats, and bull trout. There are some low elevation lakes that have some decent trout fishing too. The fun of fishing in western Washington is that there are so many different runs of fish from the ocean to these little streams. Spring chinook, summer steelhead, early fall coastal cutthroats, fall chinook/coho/pink/chum/sockeye salmon, late fall bull trout, winter steelhead...the not so fun part is navigating the labyrinth of regulations to make sure you're not in a closed area during these runs.
That’s what I’ve heard, I may have to check that out next time I’m out there. The regs are very intense, and I learned even if you follow the regs people get upset 😂 there are several other areas of Washington I want to explore so we’ll see what I run into then!
@@hardmanfishing Coastal cutthroats on Puget Sound beaches and chasing bull trout in the North Cascades were some of my favorite fall past times. Bigger fish and beautiful scenery. Highly recommend!
The Hardman bros are real champions of small creek flyfishing. Amateurs could learn a lot from these videos.
100%, they’re some of the people that got me interested in fly fishing.

I bet so! It’s good to imitate sculpins anywhere in the country I think 😂 they’re such a good food source for trout
Costal cutt-throats are a native fish swimming in basically every river and creek in washington super aggressive fish, i loved watching this video
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing video! Quick tip from washington: Those are sea run cutthroat trout and they go crazy for a brown or black wooly bugger.
Thats a good tip for sure!!

this makes me want to go bowling

Those are probably Coho.

Not unless I have waders on!
Very small, definitiley a native salmon. chinook, or coho, I am not sure.
Wow, not stocked. I can not remeber the name of the fish that was in the mouth of the cutthroat , steelhead love them. Just can not use live bait.
Pretty sure that was a coastal cutthroat they migrate just like salmon and stralhead
Yep it was!! Thanks for watching!

I do not think there are any native brook trout. you never know!
Nope, not a rainbow. salmon.
