I think he's using an e-bow, which creates an electro magnetic field, like controlled feedback. Fripp was using it to great effect in the late 70s early 80s. Mind you, Robert Fripp was way ahead of the pack in terms of sound, devices and approach. Correction: RF is still way ahead of the pack.

I didn't buy The Suburbs initially because I listened to dismissive critical reviews; those guys who wrote the reviews need their hearing checked. It was a new direction both musically and conceptually compared to the previous albums, of that I would agree, but in my humble opinion it's a real triumph and a 4.5/5 Star album.
Why 2 drums ?
