My two cents is to skip the box brace! There’s really no need on the 03+ Ram trucks with boxed frame rails. Flex is almost non-existent!

On my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel I ended up using Skyjacker their kit for a steering stabilizer but what we really making it worse than it actually was at the time I didn't have a lot of money besides working for the town I also buy houses fix them up and sell them so I didn't have the extra money to put a heavy duty Tire and how is getting a tire roll basically the sidewalls of the tire or not strong enough but now I have a really good Tire and that made one heck of a difference along with the Skyjacker steering stabilizer. But it is amazing when you don't buy Quality Parts what happens with the heavy trucks so I guess that's why you have cheap parts and expensive Parts you get with you pay for sometimes but also I've shown so many people the video with your cab lights and everyone I shall absolutely love them. I'm looking to purchase a new Ram I'm just not sure if I want a diesel or the Hemi because I have one of each at this time instead of doing all performance parts because I'm both trucks and did the computers air intakes the Terrible exhaust but when I get the new one I'm going all out on rims and tires and exhaust and a nice light kit

Love the channel man. But honestly, I don't see why so many people get crazy with stabilizers. Stabilizers do practically nothing, unless you're driving at high speeds all the time. My '03 with 35's had 250k on the front end (before I rebuilt it and only rebuilt it because I sent the truck over a 8ft drop by accident lol) and I still didn't have any play, dead spots etc. I drive the PISS out of the truck... Daily driven 120 miles round trip, 90+ all the time, I take it off-road a TON and tow often. If your steering is setup properly, tight and not worn out, you can run NO stabilizer and can barely tell any difference at all. I'm glad you mentioned that stabilizers don't fix DW! So many people don't understand that. A tight, properly maintained steering system will have no problems on these trucks with up to 35" tires!
100% fact. If your truck doesn’t drive nicely without a stabilizer, you’ve got bigger fish to fry and need to take care of the rear issues going on with the front end!
Thanks for posting this, I just bought a 2006 3500 Mega Cab last year and got new tires, upgrade at steering pump and gearbox and it has the wonder real bad. I am going ot be putting on a gearbox stabilizer this week. What would would recommend next? A sway bar upgrade or the 08 T style linkage upgrade first?

i’ve owned 6 third gens from stock ccsb to mega cab duallies on 22.5 10 lug alcoas and everything in between, none of them ever drove great but they were older trucks, i currently have a cherry of a 2005 2500 cclb 1 owner with 130k miles i did a carli track bar, syenrgy HD tie rod/drag link, fox 2.0 stabilizer, synergy sway bar links, synergy 3” soft ride coils, new coil isolators, new sway bar bushings, adjustable control arms, mopar ball joints (wish i did emf didn’t know at the time), Thuren tuned fox 2.0 front and rear shocks, mopar wheel bearings, spicer axle u joints, borgeson steering shaft, borgeson steering box, BD new steering box brace, new hydro boost, new power steering lines, new PS cooler and did a new ZF style PS pump, i tried to buy the best of everything and i have replaced everything truck has all new stainless steel brake lines with power stop z36 rotors pads and calipers so front end wise EVERYTHING is brand new and has about 3k miles on it now and i have to say i’m not impressed with how my truck drives at all.. i know it’s 20 years old and i’m not trying to compare it to my brand new ram 3500 cclb or my previous truck (2022 l5p 3500 cclb) but i felt for all the money i put into this 3g front end it would’ve driven and felt better.. it’s aligned to Thuren specs the only thing i can think is i’m running a 22x12 with a 325/50r22 (basically 35.5x13.2) toyo Mt and they’re pretty worn out, going to slap my 20x10s which have brand new toyo my 35x12.5s on them and see how it does i know wide wheels don’t drive well and especially worn tires but i had these 22x12s with these exact tires on my 4th gen and it ride amazing (truck had thuren 2.75 coils with thuren king shocks and stabilizer, synergy drag link, carli track bar and bds radius arms) and i know 4th gens drive much better than a 3rd and idk where i’m even going with this comment but seems we have very similar setups except our shocks and coils being different and maybe i’m over thinking it especially with the big wheels but i felt the truck drove basically the same as this before i put all this money into it (but that was on stock 17s and 33s) any suggestions? i know this is an older video but i love your videos! thanks!

Another thing u can easily install is the EMF driveshaft bushing witch eliminates the dampening bushing play but there is vibration feed Back afterwards but I think the benefit outways the negative also my 2012 had 1 deffective knuckle witch I ended up replacing both just cause and finnally it drives the way it should also Thuren allignment specs make sense and went from carli to EMF ball joints since I had to replace 2 of those carli and so far they are perfect but I admit the knuckle may be to blame. Don’t forget to check out thuren and carli tech and CJC for real experienced knowledge. 👍
01’ Dodge QCLB 4X4 and I’d like to grab this Thuren steering but I’m not sure it’ll work with the PSC 851 steering box I’m buying??? Any idea if they’re compatible?? Love that ATS/Fox Push/pull design. You make great videos for us 2nd Gen guys so thanks

See I ended up doing the duel stabilizer that's what was recommended for the 2001 at the time when I get it and so I have one on each side of the front and it handles very well especially with the oversized turbo the Gale Banks exhaust and the Gale Banks six shooter. But keep up the great videos I'll keep watching it's always good to see new things and just keep doing what I do my 04 Ram Hemi I keep that truck so clean everybody once that truck
I’m wondering how the turbo the exhaust manifold and sixshooter will affect the steering stabilizer? I’ve had many different 4x4 s since I bought my first 1981 Toyota hilux SR5 brand new and built quite a few mud and mountain trucks and I don’t remember ever running across that problem

Sadly the best you can really get for the first gen 2wd trucks is going to be OEM replacement parts from the dealer! Aside from that (most are hard to find since they’re not made) is Moog. Never been a big Moog fan though.

Did you address the upper intermediate shaft coupler/isolator? Mine started to deteriorate at 30k on my Gen4 PW. EMF press-in bushings took care of that slop in 10 min. I think it is an often overlooked piece, but very noticeable in the wheel and even in the pedals when the rubber gets real bad.
Yep! This truck has EMF bushings on the upper shaft, and a new Mopar lower shaft. You’re totally right that those little shims make a big difference! I should probably make a whole steering video now that I think about it! Haha

I’m looking into a PSC hydro assist ram upgrade for my 06 2500. Besides the cost, and installation effort, I have heard that steering response is reduced. Are there any other reasons why I shouldn’t get that? It seems like the ultimate steering fix for these trucks otherwise.
I’ve driven trucks with it and to me it only makes sense for the 1% of guys literally beating their trucks senseless in the dirt. If you’re doing high speed desert stuff or crawling, the PSC set up is 100% the way to go. For everyone else (me included), running a quality stabilizer and steering box is more than enough.

Right now the truck just has a Smarty Jr on Eco so I can correct for the tire size. With a stock trans I can't really go very far into tuning. If I could I'd be running EFI Live because of the simplicity, custom tuning options for turbos/trans etc, and overall ease of use. If you're just looking for basic tuning for an otherwise stock truck, I think it's hard to beat Smarty's bang for the buck.

The issue is offset/ backspace. Your wheels are too tucked in. Shoot for a wheel that’s got 0 offset and 4.75” backspace if you have factory arms and 35s 👍
Dude good video. Question - I have a 2020 3500, put a 3” 1” lift/level, 37x12.50x20 Toto M/T’s.
I have the “Toyo right hand pull”. Looking for a stabilizer to fix or help. I was told the Fox 2.0 for right hand pull would work well, just play with the air pressure. What are your thoughts? I know you replaced yours with the More expensive one but I’m still trying to recover from the cost of the truck not to mention the lift, tires and wheels. Thanks.

You’ll want to run the Carli high mount off the drag link to deal with that. Carli is almost done with those for the 19+ trucks from what I’ve heard!

Definitely can't hurt! It's something I've been wanting to try so I'll definitely report back once I do it. That truck is having issues with the trans leaking at the moment so it's been absent from the videos.

Why did you go with mopar gear box vs red head. JW, debating on the two
I bought a red head a few months ago for my 13 ram 2500 (6 bolt box) and so far the only benefit is its easier to turn the wheels. It was severely over tightened from redhead (had to loosen at least 5+ turns on the adjusting screw on top) so much so that when I turned I could let go of the steering wheel and it would hold the turn exactly where I left it. When you did return the steering to center, it was notchy. Since I've loosened it, I have gotten it to return to center and the notchyness is about 98% gone but there is a 1-2" dead spot in the middle of the wheel. Also, because their warranty is very short, (not confidence inspiring) I will probably go with a mopar box if this one goes out. Just my personal experience. Imo, go mopar. Can't be worse.
@@grimreefer5159 The 6 bolt borgeson gear box is really a Awesome box. I am running it on my 05 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins. Cheaper then the Red Head and it is brand new not rebuilt. Hope this helps...

I have violent and I mean violent, the whole truck shakes violently, death Wobble in my 2012 Ram 2500 Cummins 4x4, Where do I start. I've replaced everything that moves up front bushes tie rod ends etc etc. The vehicle has only done 12000 miles and has only just started this. It has a 2.5 " Carli Out back lift, leaf springs, shocks and a Carli steering damper. The damper has started to weep/leak and I have pointed the finger at that but after watching you above video this may not be the case.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Kevin B

Most likely the damper is leaking and shot as a result of the death wobble, but steering g stabilizers will never cause death wobble!
What brand steering box brace is that? Looking for a similar set up to yours- I want run the Carli torsion sway bar kit but I hear it might interfere with certain steering Box braces?

What gearing are you running with the 37s? I am collecting parts to SAS my Duramax and have a Dana 60 with 4.30s and am debating if I should gear is shorter or leave them.
Currently I have 3.73 gears and love it. I personally wouldn’t do anything over 4.10s for 37s with this truck having a 48re trans. With your trans it’s a different story though.
@@JustDiesels Why not 4.56? Wouldn't lower gears help the transmission?
It revs the truck out on the highway. Even on the 6 speed 68rfe trucks it’s just too much. I have a friend that insisted on 4.56 gears with 37s on a 68rfe truck, and he’s back at the gear shop getting 4.10s. If you’re crawling with the truck, then go 4.56, but if you plan to drive extended highway over 70 I wouldn’t go more than 4.10.

Well, for example the new Fords with 10 speed transmissions don’t even notice a 38” tire!
This might be a stupid question but why didn't you convert to 4th gen steering? They fixed a lot of problems with the 3rd gen design and it should just bolt right in.
I went with Synergy HD steering since it uses the same T-style design as the OEM Mopar 08+ conversion, but with stronger tubing and replaceable and grease-able joints. The Mopar stuff is okay until you blow a joint and have to replace the entire steering linkage as an assembly!

@@DelTalkoh for starters, only replace what needs to be done. No sense in doing everything unless you want to. By favorite set up that's reliable but doesn't completely break the bank is EMF ball joints, Synergy linkage, Redhead steering box and a Carli track bar. That will still get you ultra reliable parts, but isn't as much as an all out set up.
Wondering if you could help me out. I drive a 2013 ram 2500. Steering is aligned however when I drive straight it feels like it is lose and over directs. Like on the highway I curve and then straighten it feels like I have to align it rather than a smooth correction. Would this help? Or am I going to need the steering kit?

Check that all joints are not worn. Adjust your steering box to limit the steering play. Buy the EMF steering column bushings/sleeves. Lastly replace the gearbox if those other items did not help.
I have a question are you only going to do diesel trucks because if your wanting to branch out maybe you could try looking into a W123 Mercedes 300D turbo diesel I think it could be a cool build for the channel if your looking to maybe leave your comfort zone
Actually I just bought a 2013 TDI Sportwagen for commuting that may be a part of the channel if people like it haha.

Start with making sure all your parts are in good shape, like ball joints, track bar etc. if everything is okay with no play then you’re good to go!

Hey man what tire pressures do you run on the street and offroad?
It kinda depends. For towing, I run max sidewall pressure. For daily driving I’m currently running about 43 front and 38 rear. But I’m constantly playing with it and changing pressures depending on what I’m doing with the truck.

You’d be surprised how low you can go in the rear! Do the chalk test and see how your tires are wearing!
A good place to start of off-road is to use a 1"x1" piece of square tubing. Put under your tire perpendicular to your tread and air down (on concrete) until the tire touches ground on either side of the tube.
Totally depends. . towing , off road , camping , comfort . lol. 50 in front . 40- 45 in rear . change them alot .
I just bought an 07 2500 and right now I'm chasing a death wobble delete.
Guess I need to hurry up on the death wobble diagnosis video haha. Basically just run through the front end to see what’s worn out. Get a friend to rock the wheel back and fourth while you watch the track bar and steering joints for play. Then jack the truck up so you can get a pry bar under the front wheels to check for ball joint play.
@@JustDiesels I did all that yesterday and was able to find the issue pretty easily. I actually purchased the vehicle from a dealership just a few days ago and they said they're going to check it out for me and make repairs. It only gets that wobble between 30-40mph on some bumps. Any faster and it won't do it so I didn't even notice it happen until I had it for 2 days.
Had you ever looked at dodge off road? I have a 2nd gen with their heavy duty t-style steering and heavy duty track bar, it also has the steering box brace. All heim joints and a Johnny joint on one side of the track bar. It drives great even without a stabilizer but I still use one. I've got a fox 2.0 and 35s it feels better than new.
Definitely heard of them and have experience with the products, but I haven’t been as happy with the DOR parts or company when compared to Carli or Thuren. That’s completely my personal opinion though!
Dodge off road are fucking scammers lmao. All they do is try to stall you to the end of your credit card chargeback period. If you're doing debit you're fucked. Almost scammed me out of over $3k. Lame ass company should be shut down and balls chopped off

Excellent video with very good information and quality video. I have a 4th gen dually and slowly replacing every steering part like you did. Just a little constructive criticism, it seemed like you repeated yourself a couple times talking about certain topics. Not a big deal just thought you might like some input as your starting to make more videos.
Yeah I felt like the whole how a stabilizer works needed more information than I said while driving so I left it in. I decided that was better than a million cuts, but I’m still getting comfortable with talking on camera! Haha

Good video but I disagree on one part regarding the dual stabilizers. For people that are running 40” tires like myself (Give or take +/- a couple inches etc) the “Higher end” dual stabilizers are a must. I’ve had no luck with singles whatsoever and I’m talking strictly off-road in 4H/4L. Night and day. Take care!
On the Rams I really like the Carli high/low since it’s a true opposing setup on the drag link and tie rod. The dual tie rod ones just don’t cut it for me.
@@JustDiesels Somethings wrong than. Either cheap duals; bad install perhaps etc. A high quality set of duals is always better than a single no matter what. Especially for extreme off-road application there’s no comparison whatsoever. I don’t know what people are saying I’m just going off of experiences with multiple vehicles.
I am running a Ram 3500 that I use for everything. With my 40” tires singles are sufficient on roads; dirt roads etc but definitely horrible in sand; mud; rock beds etc. up in Alaska I drive up and down rivers some with water some without and I can tell you right now there’s no way on God’s green earth would I use ANY single unless I absolutely had to. I like my wrist the way they are.
I think you’re confusing what I’m saying. It’s not that duals are bad, it’s that having two duals on the tie rod isn’t going about it the right way. A true dual set up places one stabilizer on the tie rod, and one on the drag link like Carli’s. If you’re going to put the effort into do duals that’s the correct route to go.
@@JustDiesels Thanks for the reply. In the overkill type that doesn’t mess with second best for anything. I’ve broke so much crap off-road it makes me sick thinking of the money I could have saved. I’m sure the common driver even for basic off-road situations is good with a single. But up where I’m at... If you break something it can man the difference between life and death especially when it’s about -30 to -60 below.

Only if it has the factory HD steering or Synergy steering. It won’t work on the factory y style.

Duals actually can help for your average truck. On trucks with the large tires 35"+ these days, having dual dampers can put less load/wear on them. But yes, if you can afford to spend a small fortune for a steering damper (which most of us can't) then only 1 will do.

If your suspension is done right, you should not need a stabilizer. I don’t have one on my 97 Cummins and have zero issues.
That is definitely true. I do find them useful for off road and tires over 35s, but ideally your truck should drive nicely without one. If it doesn’t you have other issues! The one exception is tires like Toyo MTs that have a strong pull. In that situation you can use the push of a nitrogen chsrged stabilizer to counteract the pull instead of relying on cross caster.
@@JustDiesels exactly, my truck has 37s with no stabilizer. Like I said it has zero problems and has never had death wobble or anything. The biggest problem is that everyone puts on leveling kits and leaves their stock radius arms. And with the stock arms you can’t get more than 2-3 degrees of castor. My arms are longer so that they push the axle forward about an inch which centers the wheel back in the wheel well. And with my arms, I was able to get 5.5 degrees of castor, and Castor is everything in these trucks. If people have bad castor, worn parts will make things horrible, especially death wobble and wondering. Another good upgrade that I did was convert to T or straight steering. This will always keep your toe straight and even. This eliminates bump steer and death wobble.
Yep! It’s always funny to watch people try to fix their issue by slapping a stabilizer on when they could just address the root cause!

I'd argue the Thuren King stabilizer is better....but ATS would be my second choice.
Both are awesome. Can’t really go wrong with Carli high/low, Thuren King or the ATS!
I really hate the interior and dash on these model trucks. Clean truck though not hating.
Agreed. It’s better than the 03-05 trucks, but still really cheap and plastic feeling.
You talk about using "quality products" and everything but have an AFE flat back diff cover on you rear diff... they have been proven to kill performance and MPG's. Have a hard time listening to you preaching "quality" with garbage parts
The diff cover went on long before Banks had developed theirs.
