Sailing the world as a family has been extremely rewarding but it’s also been insanely difficult at times. Last week we sailed into one of the most stunning places in the Mediterranean. The Bay of Kotor in Montenegro is a sailors dream destination and we’ll be staying at Porto Montenegro Marina, which is the perfect home base from which to explore this incredible country. And since Desiree’s mother Xio is visiting, we’re excited to get to share this experience with her.
But just as we begin to fall in love with this beautiful place, we get a few brutal reminders that sailing the world as a family comes at a cost and we’re left wondering if the pros outweigh the cons.

Just sharing here… after dealing with inconsiderate and pushy staff during my 1st pregnancy, I specifically chose my ob for my 2nd based on my initial interaction with the office staff. I called so many and repeatedly the first question they asked me was “who is your insurance carrier?”
When I called my now ob’s office - I explained I was pregnant and looking for a new ob/gyn and her response was “Congratulations! How are you feeling?”
This told me all I needed to know about how they treat their patients. It was the right call, I ADORE my ob dr. His staff and culture of his office made all of the difference in my experience. I pray that when you get to the US you find the perfect dr and staff for your family ❤️ 🙏

Beautiful video, your mother was a real blessing and truly such a nice person, very few mothers would go half way around the world on a sailboat to,help baby sit , besides the weather and water is hard for many people but your mother was a true trooper and blessing!

33 yrs ago my hubs wanted to buy a sailboat and do what you’re doing. I was pregnant at the time & as afraid so we didn’t. Watching you guys with Isa (& soon with #2 👶🏼) fills me with what ifs. Not for nothing, if you move to the US, one of you will have to work full time so the other will be mostly an 9 hr per day single parent. Food 🍱 for thought🕊️ Until then Saturday mornings with PA remains my favorite way to start my weekends🤍

Oh my, I had tears in my eyes this episode. I feel for you so much. At such a time why can’t people be kind even if they have to say no, you can explain things kindly, be gentle, and perhaps even RELAX your rules!! Jordan should absolutely be with you, I just don’t understand that at all! And then, saying goodbye to Desiree’s mum and Oso. Really want to give you guys a big hug. I live on the other side of the world from my family, so I get how hard that is. Take care you lovely people.

We know what it's like to not have support from family while raising the little ones. We are not isolated on a boat in the Mediterranean, unfortunately, but we are isolated on our homestead in the middle of the wilderness of Wisconsin's Great Lakes area. The kiddos go everywhere with us and it's much harder to accomplish things that way but I think in the long term it builds connectivity in the family; an interdependence that can't be synthesized any other way. Lessons in keeping up the farm, or boat, or whatever, are ingrained in the children and will teach them self sufficiency, independence, and irreplaceable critical thinking skills. You two are building such a beautiful experience for your children and they will never forget this time with you. I'm certain it will be some of their fondest memories; even in their old age when you are no longer around to remind them. Much love to you all and know you are always in our prayers. Thank you for sharing your lives with us!

Desiree, I am sorry that things didn’t go as you expected, and that your appointment was so difficult for you. The reasons that they gave were interesting at a minimum and can understand why the situation was upsetting. I will let you know that no one else in the room for most of the ultrasound happens elsewhere. I have had a bunch of pelvic ultrasounds. Where I live in Canada, most are done through a clinic, not at a doctor’s office. There are big signs in the waiting room, that once they have finished doing the core requirements, they will get your husband or other person from the waiting room, and do a brief version with them present. The stated reasons relate to them having full concentration on what they are doing, the time to get it done and have the specialist check and redo anything needed and space needed for them as many of the rooms are tiny. Of course because a tech, they are giving limited information to the patient. Anything important would be later from the dr.

Great video as always, the changes your video shows are incredible. Fifty years ago I travelled through Yugoslavia as it was called on my Vespa. Gasoline was subsidised by the then Tito government and real cheap. None of the infrastructure you experienced was available then. I remember staying in a "B&B in one coastal city and when I woke up in the morning, there were 3 other men still sleeping in the room. Breakfast was a piece of homemade bread and water. I think the total cost was around a few dollars. If memory is correct I think the city was Dubrovnik. Even then the people were very friendly and kind. I had a wonderful time with several friends tenting on the shore of Lake Peice(sp). It was on the border of Yugoslavia and Albania, which at the time was an absolute , No Go Zone . It's incredible to see the transformation that has taken place in 52 years. Stay safe you three. Looking forward to your next video.

Des, I can't give advice only share experiences - I'm a guy, my wife called me the pregnancy spirit animal. What I can say is I have 3 healthy wonderful kids. Each pregnancy was full of stress and worry from the doctors. There was real worries - we lost my daughters twin due to TTTS, and my youngest was born deaf. BUT!!! All 3 are still healthy and striving! My words for you - the baby will be fine. Believe that and own that. Even when there are problems to worry about, believe in the miracle that every woman does when MAKING a baby. You'll do your job just fine and the baby will fight for life, fight for health. Remember you are a miracle worker and be proud. By the way, your daughter is just so cute. You've already done a great job once. No tears, be proud and happy!!!!!

Desiree, I totally agree that they should have let Jordan at minimum into your appointment. I was pregnant in 2020 with my youngest and was extremely disappointed when they refused to allow my husband into the appointments with me. We did donor egg IVF to get pregnant and he should have been allowed into my appointment. It was all bogus. Like, they wanted us to wear masks and distance, but yet that wasn't good enough for him to join the appointment. Then, when I gave birth, i had a c section and i had to do it alone. Then 6 hours later, my husband was told he was no longer allowed in the hospital and i was left caring for a newborn while i couldn't even care for myself. I felt like i was in jail. The dumbest part, they had two different nurses for two different patients in the same room, but when i transferred to a private room, my husband still wasn't allowed. I really hope you have a better experience going forward. You are not alone in how it feels to be alone for those appointments, and you have a right to be angry and upset about it. It took two of you to make the baby, why is it only one is allowed to be at the appointments?

Hey Buds, Sorry for the late comment. I think we told you when we met you in Poros that there is a lack of feeling of friendliness in Montenegro (maybe more like all business). We were not impressed with general medical care there, but I did get to know a couple of people in the medical industry very well and they felt as though OBGYN and Dentistry are very strong there.
    Loved the video!

I have an awesome hack for your ac. I have one just like yours. The ac creates negative draft pulling hot air into the boat from the back of the unit, and is loud. You can make your boat cooler and quieter by putting it outside and making positive air pressure inside.Take a large black bag like Home Depot contractor bag, cut one bottom corner like a big triangle. The bag will look like a dance cap on top of your ac with the hose popping out, Cut the tip off and run the 6” hose through that tip of the bag and tape. Tape the bag to the ac. Clear packing tape works well, avoid duct tape. You may need to put a little wedge piece to keep the ac fins on top open for assurance. My boat dropped 10 degrees when i did this idea I thought of. It really works amazing. First I cut a piece of foam board insulation and sits in place of bottom two companion way boards, so you can still step over. I later went to starboard for security and strength. Trace the hose and push it through, then aim it wherever you want it to blow. Stay cool! Cheers!

In the sixties as a young kid i read a book about a couple who built a trimaran and sailed around the world and had two children on the way. They always had a nanny for the children. There seemed to be an endless stream of suitably qualified nanny's who wanted to have a sailing experience and would do a leg or some time on the boat and nanny the children in exchange. This maybe something you could look at because if it is hard cruising with one child then try it with two. Just something you could think about. Love your channel and all the best. 😊👍 🐟

Hi guys I'm glad you love Kotor, it really is one of the most spectacular bays. On the health appointments experience, you have to understand in developing countries whilst the doctors are usually as well trained as in America that level of knowledge is not very deep. Culturally many of the disease phobias from the first half of the 20th century still hold strong. That is certainly the case in Malta (despite them having some truly world class professionals) and in the Balkans.

I don't know the details about the Malta experience, but I think part of both of these problems with European medical staff might just have to do with culture. We Americans naively sometimes think that surely everyone thinks like I do, but my experiences in Turkey awakened me to people on a whole different wave length to anything I could ever imagine.

Sorry u had a __ experience but also celebrating a healthy baby. I know of hospitals that have lots of covid cases. In a few health care situations had to wear a mask again. So excited to see Isabella walking. Always appreciate taking us to sites 🇨🇦 ❤

Didn't realize that Montenegro is such a great place to visit.

Such a beautiful place, but such rudeness from the Dr. office was un called for in my humble opinion. I don't understand why such ones think they have the authority or whatever, to treat others' that way. Otherwise, a very beautiful story and excellent scenery! Be safe always, and keep up the great videos.

I have one that looks identical to that, it is a Midea, 10,000 BTU I believe, maybe a bit bigger but we put it in our older house upstairs master bedroom. It puts out very cold air but cycles on and off and won't stay on, even with an extra fan circulating air. I think the thermostat must be too close to the output, so the unit cools off before the room does. Hope it works so you can sleep at least...
I don't think it's because I have drones that I notice how much your drone shots add to your productions, but I can appreciate the extra time and effort it takes probably more than most.

Jordan I’m so happy that you were able to get you guys some air conditioning for the boat. I don’t know how you guys stayed in the boat when it’s been so so hot.

Hi, you probably already know this..butt. There is another RUclips family that is based in Montenegro, Feel The Breeze. They have had two children there. Maybe they can help you out a little. To be honest, they have been quiet for about a year. Good luck, wishing you the best. Enjoy all your videos, and I've been her from the very beginning. You have come so far.😊😊

We have spent some time in Montenegro and you are right. The people are the problem. Not all of them but a larger proportion than most countries make a significant effect on the general feel of the country and definitely prevent people from returning to such a beautiful place. I'm not sure what it is that makes people like it but I think it is an authoritarian government in the past has normalised the unfriendly attitude in the general population of montenegro. Buck uo Montenegro, the surrounding countries such as Croatia Italy and Greece are the warmest and friendliest to be in as visitors. I won't be going back to Montenegro in a hurry.

its their country they can do what they want. Stay in a place where you are comfortable.
Stay off the boat if needed. Your expectations do not apply.

As an excuse for Isabella - my son (first born) was also not fond of walking. Later I understood: He was a baby with hardly other young kids around. Around were many very tall people - he could hardly look at their Kneecap. It was far more convenient at dads arm - very high above others.
I think his frequent word is universal "arm" 😘

The restrictions on who could view the ultrasound reminded me of my daughter’s birth. The nurses said my wife could have one “guest” to hold her hand during the emergency C-section. Her mother or me. We used the golden rule. I was paying for whatever my insurance wasn’t, so I won.
