    Last I checked the Falkland Islands were no where near the UK. The idea that they’re sovereign to the UK is absurd - it’s an ex-colony.

      What does distance have to do with Sovereignty? By your logic countries the world over should be swapping land left right and centre

    • @PJH13
      @PJH13 5 дней назад +7

      Proximity has nowt to do with sovereignty, it was an empty island when it was settled by the British, nearly 200 years ago and the islanders still want it to be British. That makes it a stronger claim than many territories most wouldn't even question - European borders are very different today than they were back then, most of the current US wasn't American, heck Hawaii is 5,000 miles from DC, and an existing non-US population was there, when it was annexed c. 130 years ago.

      Exactly, the UK’s island stealing shenanigans are setting the worst precedent for China taking over islands near Philippines and Taiwan that are nowhere near China and mere kilometers from Philippines and Taiwan.

      Yes I think the Falklands and Chagos etc are being handed back to reduce western hypocrisy when pushing back against China’s Pacific expansion.

      @kattriceberntsen983 how many people do live there then? I don't claim to be any kind of an expert. I know what I do and don't want my tax money going towards though. I don't want it going towards islands thousands of miles away. I don't see why those Islanders can't pay for their own defense. I would like to see my tax money helping people who live in Scotland. Is that somehow wrong?

      How do you know the islanders dont pay their own way to defence tax? Whats the difference in helping britons down in the Falkland Islands to Scottish folk? (Half of the scots dont even want to be associated with Britain anyway). Asif its your own personal tax fund that floats the whole defence budget anyway👍 might i add as well theres alot of Scottish people living out in the Falkland Islands.. guess you dont fancy helping then

    • @douglasnisbet1189
      @douglasnisbet1189 4 дня назад

      @georgekaye9838 according to this debate that is the subject of this video, Islanders don't pay for their own defense. The Islanders had a referendum to see if they wanted to remain part of the UK. How about those of us paying tax in the UK have a referendum to see if we want to continue funding their defense?

    • @douglasnisbet1189
      @douglasnisbet1189 4 дня назад

      @Gw1209l at what point did I imply it's my own personal tax find that funds all of the Falklands defense budget? I just said I don't want my taxes being used for that purpose. I also don't want my taxes used for hotels to house illegals. If that's somehow wrong or inhumane then I guess I'll just have to live with the guilt.
