Hey guys! I just released an updated tutorial on this topic which is much more up-to-date: ruclips.net/video/-SLk_ScNAps/видео.html
will this work for all applications and the pc voice recorder or is it only changed when you make a video using the obs
2:34 the video starts
Wtf it starts at 0:00

thx
thanks

Exactly what I was looking for, I've just started using OBS and when I found and opened the Compressor I had no idea what the settings really meant. Thanks!
Great tut. A few notes: a compressor increases soft as well as reducing loud (avg level). gain should be below noise filters and above compress. noise gate should be (subjective) at the top to reduce (cpu) work on noise filter if using it, because it can cause encoder lag with slower systems. The filters are processed top down. I prefer to use noise gate only to avoid voice distortion since the background noise is pretty much drowned out by my voice anyway; and if it isn't, the environment is too loud. Of course I use a dynamic mic instead of condenser to cut down on outside noise, so keep that in mind too.
Hey Pete!
Thanks for the great the video.
I just want to add that in case distortion, at high audio levels happens for any of you guys - try moving the "compressor" filter to the top, so it takes priority first.
To do this, right-click the cog icon, go into filters, then select the compressor filter and press the "^" (up arrow). This solved my issues with my sound getting distorted when "yelling" into the microphone.
My setup looks like this:
- Compressor
- Noise suppression
- Noise Gate
- Gain

Really great tip, thanks so much Lifting!
I didn't realize priority was so important, I thought you could just set up in no particular order, interesting!

Literally so helpful and SO clear. No questions, no errors. Perfect video
I spent three days trying to fix my audio in OBS. Your video was the only one that explained the meaning of each setting and what they do in a very didactical way without rushing it for beginners. I finally got to fix my audio. Thanks, man.
Started streaming not too long ago(about a week or two) and ive been watching your videos the whole way through to help make my stream better. Thank you so much , zero complaints. You are the hero we all need
This has helped me greatly, especially how spoke about each filter. Thank you.
This is excellent, thank you! I have some pretty noisy fans which play havoc with my recordings. I can't wait to try this when I get home!
thank you so much for posting this, a veteran streamer here and I just been in the office for so long that i completely forgot ALL of these settings and this was a great refresher to get me back in the game!
This helped so much I was having problem with my pitch getting to loud and my birds in the back ground. But after i followed your video and adjusted it for my video, I couldn't help my self i was so happily in tears it finally sounded the way i wanted it to! I have been trying to fix this for a YEAR!
So I have streamed, mostly as a hobby, for roughly 6 - 7 years. In all of that time I've struggled with audio and it's always been a pretty huge issue. I've tried looking things up and most of the time if not all the time, it was confusing and got me nowhere. Your video was an extreme help, it actually got me to a point to where I actually think it sounds good. So I wanted to say thanks and say it was extremely helpful!
hi! can you please tell me your settings for your noise gate? everywhere online only has male voice settings and my words keep getting cut off when i speak Dx
@@victomasello try increasing both hold and release times. my words got cut out horribly with my new mic setup (tinkering with everything today) and i noticed a big improvement removing noise suppression, setting the levels for the noise gate, increasing the hold and release times (mostly the release time so it fades out smoother instead of being an abrupt cutoff from all sound)
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for this! I was running into issues with my snowball and this literally took out all the background!
I love you for putting the timestamps for each filter in the description. Great video, mate. Thank you
While this might seem like simple fundaments to anyone with experience, as someone new to OBS, this is an absolute lifesaver! Thanks a bunch!
Very helpful video, Thanks
This is great. My live stream audio sounded so much worse than my videos in Adobe premiere pro. That compressor is going to help out a ton!
dude i litterly just watched your pantheon of the knight tutorial video a minute ago and now i found you here XD
Thank Bro.
I love that you focus only on what the viewer needs to know. Great job on this tutorial. Somehow I figured all this out on my own playing around with OBS. The VST plugins audio filters I discovered helps as well, but aren't as easy to figure out. I did my best with my settings on using them, and sometimes it crashes my pc, but lately it's been working fine.
Thank you for this video. I've been reverting back to this video a lot lately. Thanks
Thanks a lot!! U deserve 1 million subs.... Really useful

This is what I needed... I use a PC and it makes LOTS of noise so my views really got some background noises! Even ho this video is 3 years after it worked perfect! LOVED IT!!
I was searching for something that could remove that annoying microphone noise and came across this, not only it remove that annoying noise but also improved my microphone quality, thanks a bunch for explaining how those filters works!
Holy Crap. I literally found these filters this morning at 3 am and stayed up for 3 hours trying to figure it out. And low and behold a video is uploaded about it a couple hours later. I actually had all the filters on this video except compression. Going to go add it now. Thank you man!!!!
Haha, what are the chances!
Gaming Careers Thank man. All your Videos helped me get my Stream looking good. All your videos on OBS are fantasticly detailed. Much appreciated!!!
Thanks for all your tips mate :) Been watching them to improve my recording quality.
You're very welcome! 👍
3 years later the Noise Suppression tip you gave still works like a champ - thanks for solving my background noise problem.
can you believe I always come back to this video after a few years. it is a better detail than I expect. I use the yeti and sometimes your video here makes more sense to me to understand , thanks.
very good tutorial, you explain very well all the details, thank you very much for making that easyer for us,the noobs!

Thank you. You consistently deliver the best videos on OBS Studio features and functions.
You're tutorial is short, sweet and simple which is 100% of the content I look for when it comes to software help! Thanks!
question: how come on my streamlabs when I am looking at the sources, it shows audio coming from my Blue Yeti mic? It makes it sound like it's looping when I stream. It comes from the actual audio and the mic and it has an echo effect. Please help.
do you have your twitch muted?
did you fix it? cause im out here struggling
Wonderful!
With a single video you helped me with every single one of my effects that I wanted on my microphone using OBS. Ya'll did a fantastic job (and it was moderately soothing too for some reason haha!)
Thank you! My videos constantly had this background noise when playing games. This helps out a ton, it's like night and day!
for the compression, if you compensate the threshold gain reduction by turning up the gain in the compressor it sounds less muffled
around 9:00 thanks for explaining that...... was a bit confused what those actually did
love how you go indept into what the different settings do :)
I really like how you explain it for people who have no idea what they're doing. Really appreciate your step by step tutorial.
Thanks so much can't wait to remove my air conditioner from my live stream!
thanks for this really help improve my stream droped a like and a sub :)
Best ad for this method was the beautiful audio right out of the gate (no pun intended) on this video!
I am so happy man! I remember when you had just 59K subscribers and man you just keep getting better can't wait to see you hit 1m subs!

THANK YOU for this super helpful guide! I have a quick question.. Does adding more filter affect the performance in recording?
MegaToon TV, I don't think so.
You're the man, Pete! You have fantastic content and I really appreciate your detailed explanations of each setting.
Wow so much better with none of that static I was hearing before! Thank you
hey could i get a hand i tried everything but when i record my mic makes me sound like im in water and its hard to get smooth mic audio
Am I the only one who thinks the audio quality is massively degraded once enabling noise suppression? It almost sounds like you're talking in a Pringle can or a fishbowl. Yes it cuts out fan noise and other close sounds but I sound completely different when I enable it.
Yes, I'm thinking the same way. Also when I tried it myself it seems like it also take away parts of my voice. On the other hand the breathing sounds is really annoyng especially nose breath out sound... So I'm trying to find a way to get rid of this without having robo voice, gaps etc.
I agree. I had to remove my suppressor because it completely defeats the purpose of having a nice microphone. And it sucks because when my gate does kick in, my voice sounds clear but you can hear my fan in the background.
The reason is because it’s taking away frequency’s that are causing the noise you want taking out. Thus making the rest of the audio rubbish. I just recommend the gate, and finding a quite area to stream. Also if you don’t want a fan to be heard in your videos, just turn the fan off.
A lot of people are talking about PC fans, and turning those of is a huge mistake.
@Jod3n for that you need to enable noise gate
Explains each setting and gets to the point LOVE IT!!!!
yo this tutorial SLAPS. great job
Tip for everyone: Make sure you test your sound/Mic settings when your computer is at 100% or volume. made the mistake and was super loud on my last stream
Deadlyliar I need help, I know this comment was a year ago. But my steel series 5 mic is way to low on stream. Is there a way to turn it up ??
Beckiie Estrada which broadcasting software are you using? You could potentially add a filter onto your mic setting to increase the “gain” which in terms makes the mic volume louder.
4:58 I can't hear the sound of your fans over the sound of my computer fans !! xD
cool
This was so well-explained and my sound quality is so much better. Even the comments down here are confusing the hell out of me; sound setting lingo just is not something I can comprehend. Thanks so much!
By far the best video on the subject on youtube
I like how on spotify he has "Never gonna give you up" playing, dude i'm dead XD

That moment when years after you finally understand what your teachers have been trying to teach you. Thank you, sensei.
lol i was trying out my new mic i just bought and i sounded like i was talking through a really old walkie talkie.
"when you are *trying* to be sneaky"
My sound is absolutely amazing now. Thank you!
Excellent video, Pete!
After adding the noise suppression filter your mic sounds a bit robotic. Will this happen to everyone with any mic? If so is there anyway to fix it?
I heard that too.
Happens with noise suppression all over the board regardless of mic (as far as I know with the mics I’ve used for recording). All about striking a balance between noise reduction and “robot sound”. I’ve found that less is more with this tool - try removing as many noise sources as possible to get as clean audio as possible IN; the better your IN quality, the easier to make the OUT sound amazing 👍🏻👍🏻 hope that was helpful even though it’s 2 months too late 😂
OriginalYank Thank you. I was not going to use this in the near future anyway and only asked for the sake of curiosity.
What sucks is if you have like 10+ huge fans running at like 80%
fuck xD
That's the nature of noise suppression. It's doing what it's supposed to do. By using this filter it will reduce the audio quality slightly, depending on how much noise suppression you use.
Ron Weasley is that you?
Loves dude. Always come back to this video.
Thank you so much man. I had a really tough time with background noise. The noise gate and suppression work super well. Cheers!

Thank you for this detailed guide Gaming Careers. I noticed a lot of improvements with the advanced settings. Keep up the good work!
Just the introduction to this video alone was extremely helpful! So much quality information. Thank you 🙏
Thank you for explaining what each part does. It really helps me a lot to understand.
Nice vid as always Pete! Cheers

Using this in 2021 and is still amazing. Thanks for the help!
Received my first usb mic today...THanks for the help on refining it!
I always come back to these videos, they are so amazingly helpful! You are very kind and its really enjoyable watching your videos. Thank you
The noise gate finally got rid of my heavy mouth and nose breathing. Thank you!
This video cleaned up my vocals quickly. Loved it. 🙏🏻
Thanks for helping me out- new to twitch and your video has really helped me understand the benefits of advanced mic settings for OBS! Wishing you continued success! (throws the peace sign)
I always get back to your guides they are sp simple and a casual as me can make it :D
Thank you so much! You clarified this question for me. I struggled so much trying to learn what to do with my microphone noise. I installed tons of programs like Voicemeeters, Canabile, vst filters but it didn’t helped me much. You gave me a great idea of what I really should try.
Your channel is so amazing. I am currently working on perfecting settings to go full-time immediately. (I am legally disabled and not re-entering the work force, so I am doing this so I maintain the normalcy of a regular job.)
I've only been testing and deleted my clips that have gone out so far, but I am where I am so far mainly due to @Gaming Careers videos. I knew a lot of OBS from past attempts when I did not have internet speed capable of streaming (or good hardware) but you have taken my knowledge to a MUCH better level, and I am confident I will begin full-time, 6 days a week broadcasts tomorrow, and I owe a helluva lot to you.
Thank you so very much for helping all of us. It is truly, truly appreciated.
This was such a useful guide I'm so thankful for this, very great quality.
Thanks man! A year and a half later and still very useful and usable instruction
The first section of your video helped me. Thanks for uploading. Blessings
Incredible settings...
This actually works thanks man fixed my mic audio.
Super helpful review, thanks amigo!
This was a great help. Thank you!
Thank you so much for uploading this, it will help so much
Thank you very much! I messed up my mic settings, after learning about each filter it's helped me fine tune for streaming & recording!
Very helpful, This will make any Mic sound great!
I swear you explain stuff very well first it was alerts in one now this thanks man, I'm going to subscribe
This was an awesome guide to the add-ons. Having gotten a new device recently I had to download a new version of OBS. I had been using a legacy version from around 2015, so I had to figure out all the new stuff I could add on. Audio fixing was one of my first priorities due to having a roommate and a rather noisy AC. That said, it's now completely set up and good to go.
Thanks for all your helpful content!
Super informative, mate. Thank you.
This helped a lot, thank you!
You saved me a lot! I have a silent microphone and thanks to you, I can live stream and the viewers can hear me.
