I think we can turn this around pretty quick. We are basically having double drafts in 3 straight years so that will load up the club with high drafted prospects.

We need to get a Monahan like deal that we did with Montreal instead we need to be the beneficiary taking in the bad contract for some picks and hopefully the player can be decent enough on our nhl squad. I’d even be willing to take on the Nurse contract if DEADMONTON gives us their entire farm and picks for the next 3 years 😂

Call me an optimist but I think the Flames will be better than most of you think. Contenders? No, but I think we can push for a playoff spot. It will all depend on our goaltending. You never know what is going to happen. Suppose Huberdeau gets back to a point per game. What if some of our young guys like Zary, Pospisal and others take the next step in their development. Look what happened in Vegas's first year. They had several players have breakout seasons. You just never know

Our D group is actually really solid. I was disappointed with Mark's take in that respect. We'll ride or die with Wolf, and if he's good we'll push for a playoff spot. Conroy picked up a lot of high risk - high reward players (Mantha + Huberdeau could be deadly, or it could be a double - no effort - painful to watch disaster), which is perfect for us in this stage. If they don't pan out we bottom feed and get high picks.

@@torrengustavsen7429 How is the D solid in your view? Traded all the solid D away! Andersson had an off year and Weegar, though he had a great point total wasn't solid defensively either. I think the D is the weakest group of forwards, D, and net.

@@justincase4812 Andersson and Weegar are top 4 Defensemen on any team in the league (perfect 2-3 guys. True, we don't have a Hughes or a Makar, but we've got good depth, better than most in my opinion). Miramanov showed flashes of being a top 4, but was really inconsistent, so we'll call him a 3-5. Pachal and Hanley are a pretty standard NHL bottom pairing. So really we're just missing one top 4 guy to have a legit top 6. Bean and Bahl have a good shot at being steady, but they're fringe top 4 candidates (career year required, much less likely than Miramanov). That leaves Poirier and Brzustewicz, who I really believe can play solid top 4 minutes if they get off to a good start. Just compare us to Boston. They really don't have much aside from Mcavoy and H. Lindholm, (Zadorov, Carlo, Peekie, Lohrei > Miramanov, Bahl, Bean, Brzustewicz? I'd say not much different), but they had a 109 point season (Helps to have Pasternak and 2 of the best goalies in the league obviously). I'd probably take Lindholm and Mcavoy over Weegar and Andersson, but not by much. Those two made a lot of mistakes disappear last season, and created a lot that the forward group mishandled. Very underrated.

2027 Mark I think that we could make the playoffs. I believe that Conroy (From Upstate NY like me), is going to weaponize our cap space maybe next offseason, especially if our younger guys are developing according to plan. If we can get Parekh up maybe next season, and he’s an everyday player, and develops his defensive game, we could be better as soon as next season. Not talking playoffs, but better and heading in the right direction. This upcoming season will be rough, but I think we’ll look good at times. In Conroy we trust.

It is really hard for me to make an informed prediction on how much the Flames have fallen or improved after such massive changes. Especially without seeing them play any games yet.
Our d' as it stands, is probably bottom 10 in the league at best. Our goaltending is a monster question mark and we don't have a ton of firepower up front.
All these things should conspire to put us in a top ten draft position, which would suit me just fine. But you never know.

I disagree with people who say Wolf won't be good. He's young sure, but I keep hearing he's too small. Was the NHL all THAT different when Kiprusoff was still playing? He was "only" 6 ft 1 in., and for sure Wolf has the skill. For me the only negative is Wolf's experience level, and he'll start working on that this season.
