Baseball is a kid in Mid Michigan listening to a tongue tied guy from Georgia on the WJR signal, way after the kid's supposed to be in bed sleeping on a summer night in Michigan. Hanging on his every word about his beloved Motor City Kitties and whatever other incredible story said tongue tied fella weaved together like a fine persian silk rug. Baseball IS Ernie Harwell. RIP.
Northern Michigan as well. Staying up until 1 in the morning for the end of a game in Anaheim or Seattle. Hearing the crackling of the WWPZ signal while out on Lake Michigan, fishing with my grandfather on Sundays in a little 1969 Boston Whaler 13 footer. Ernie, always there, talking about Tram's last at-bat or how a guy from Coopersville was taking home a souvenir.
IM THE KID FROM ONAWAY MICH.THAT LIVED EVERY DAY WITH "THE REST OF THE STORY " AT 4 PM AND ERNIEE AT @ 6:45 ALL SUMMER LONG..now I'm that 55 yr old kid that misses the lesson s each day from those GREAT MEN
Baseball is going to a State Park for a family reunion, walking through that park and never missing a pitch, cause Every picnic table had a radio on listening to Ernie call the game.
Baseball is hearing a voice on the radio describing a strikeout: 'He stood there like the house by the side of the road."
Called out for excessive window shopping

A kid from West Michigan too. That crackling signal on WCUZ in Grand Rapids will ring in my ears forever.

Baseball is man's most noble work of art.
5th, April, 2024 Detroit Tigers Opening Day. We will never forget you, Ernie
Baseball is sharing a spot next to the radio with your grandfather, listening to Ernie call the final out in the 1984 World Series...
Baseball is listening to the Tigers several hundred miles from Detroit courtesy of 50,000 watt powerhouse WJR back in the day.
Ernie was simply the best and loved and missed by all who knew him.
What a legend, we miss him
One of my heroes
Ernie worked with Herb Carmeal in Baltimore before going to Detroit. Then Herb went to theMinnesota Twins in 1962.
I used to listen to Herb Carneal long after my bedtime or even played hookie to listen to him
Baseball is a voice describing a strikeout: Called out for excessive window shopping
Baseball is a grandfather, father and son in the bleachers.
Ernie harwell always a tiger......
Absolutely fantastic.
Hard to believe Bo Shembechler fired Ernie when he was president of the Tigers. They were forced to bring him back.
Bo was a loser.
They only brought him back after the team was sold to Mike Ilitch.
Today is opening day 2020.
Opening day 2021. Go Tigers!
Opening day 2022!
Goooo Tigers!
