I liked it. They all are very educational. Especially for someone who has been in the trades and can understand what you mean. I can tell you do mighty fine work for your customers, doing it right, which is great in my book. I've been a residential carpenter/ roofer/ handyman for 20 years now, self employed for 12, and I would like to do commercial flat roofing repairs and full roofs even if they weren't too large. I've done flat roofing before plenty of times but not hot mop, torch down, or tpo. Just epdm and rolled roofing for residential. I really appreciate the knowledge your sharing man. Thanks.

I just got into doing flat roofs....we use white tpo for the energy efficiency where I live! Pretty cool....we do the ryno bond.....great video bud.....our buildings don't usually have plywood or anything it's just perlers with decking on and 2 layers of insulation board, pretty cool to see other roofs
Right on! I do commercial flat roofing too, but in Canada. My crew specializes in single ply/tpo/epdm and I’m also trained in sheet metal. The buildings we do are gigantic and usually don’t have the plywood decking either. I’ve only really seen that on smaller residential types or nursing homes.
As a building envelope specialist, I recomend you fix that entire roof edge and not just scupper in one spot. While at it, replace that deteriorated roof system complete to deck.
I’m sure they didn’t have the budget for that . But you’re right though. On my own roof, which I cannot afford to replace yet, I find that when we “fix” One spot , it simply finds a new route and creates a new spot. So it’s just a never ending patch job. I’m aware I’m putting good money after bad at this point and have actually ended up tarping the entire roof ahead of hurricane Hilary here in California
Great Video and Idea !! Bad workmanship by previous contractors !! By Any chance did you put back the gutter bracket that was taken out when you cut the gutter or did you apply fasteners inside gutter and secure to wall ? Also did you installed new edge metal where you cut out to install new scupper ? Did not see that in video. My concern is that with volume of water now going to the new flat roof scupper the gutter may collapse and fall to ground if it wasn't secured.
Great job! We install these all the time. My only critique is I wish you would've shown the outside edge in your video. When the gutter fills up will it find a way in the exterior wall because that outside edge is the hardest to seal especially with a gutter in the way or if you terminated the epdm inside the gutter.
Though I’m not a roofer, I can attest that this is true because this is exactly what keeps happening to my own roof at that very spot just like you said
If I may ask a question. Since you already opened up the roof deck, why not install the new section of EPDM under the existing layer? It was perfectly opened. You did a nice job, but eventually it’s going to leak.
I absolutely agree. I don't think we will ever know the answer to that but it is funny that both buildings on either side are exactly the same. I guess some builders aren't content with just messing up once.
I have a flat roof with only about 2 inch drain pipes in the 4 corners that plugged up with pine needles I can’t get clear. How can I clear them? Might also have elbow in each one. Tried sticking my 2500 psi pressure washer wand down it which might be 30 inches down but no luck.
Try sucking up with a strong vac rather than pushing further down, and if you can cut the down pipe, put pressure washer so it blows in reverse direction to how you’ve tried if possible whilst sucking at same time. Failing that, try using a helix wire type drain cleaner rod, that should break the surface, then slowly but surely you’ll get through the blockage.
The whole side of that roof needed addressing.. I'm in UK so lots of rain and everytime I do flat roofs I take out any bowed parts to the spars spars because you'll still get some standing water along that edge regardless.. what you did would never pass here unless your what we call a 'cowboy'.. just lazy to not check and sort out the imperfections before recovering the roof
Hey Chocolate Starfish, I totally agree. Unfortunately, the association didn’t have the funds for it. But you’re right. Sometimes we just have to do the work within someone’s budget.
@@AllRoof. that's kinda the issue here because once they've spent the money getting the wrong people to do the job in the first place so by time they get someone to correct it they've not enough money to do it right... it annoys the shit out of me that people just go over old roofs etc without sorting the issue out they just think the rubber will keep the water out but standing water ends up damaging the rubber I find over time..

Eventually, everything leaks, but I think the roof is going to die before my repair leaks

The original roofer was very dumb. Instead of solving problem, they created a big problem. The edge should never be higher than the rest of the roof.
