    as a roofer and a metalhead, i appreciate the dual joyness of hearing “fight fire with fire” by metallica while you are torching🤣🤣

      By the way I have a newer tutorial on scuppers with some of the techniques we changed recently. I recommend viewing and following that instead of this video.

    Great presentation can I applied a new scupper over an existing one that runs down in through the wall and out.

      Thanks Edwin, we generally like to remove the old scupper and install a new one. If the existing scupper is in decent shape you can re-use it, its just not ideal however.

    Always apply heat to the bottom surface, always preheat your trowel when torching white cap.

    Is that just base sheet scupper and cap sheet over it and the mastic for corners?

    is scupper good enough in multiple places on a 3000 sq feet flat roof or do we also need floor drains on flat surface

    • @RoofRepairSpecialist
      @RoofRepairSpecialist  Год назад

      It really depends on how many scuppers there are, how the roof is sloped, the size of the scuppers and your climate zone. In california the amount of drainage needed is actually dictated by the plumbing code. .

    What specs say you don’t go on the deck 6” let alone no can’t strip that’s not supreme field sheet goes to top of can’t and wall ply 6” on deck

      You are 100% correct. I made a mistake in this video and did not show that. We actually just re-shot the scupper installation video yesterday and will hopefully have it edited and up within a few weeks. I'll try to remember to send you a link.
      The other thing we've changed is stop the use of mastic under our flashing when torching. We learned that when mastic gets to hot it pretty much becomes useless.

    just curious how long have you been roofing? and since when did modified bitumen not need to be de granulated or bleed out,? not the best tutorial in my opinion.

    • @RoofRepairSpecialist
      @RoofRepairSpecialist  3 года назад

      This tutorial is to show the steps. Yes granulating the bleed is important. However that's not what this video is about.

    My scupper looks completely different. It’s black it’s made of different materials not anything like that. The other side got broken when they installing the AC unit and now water was leaking down the side of my house it’s not supposed to and he’s destroyed insulation under belly and all kinds of crap, but nobody’s taking responsibility. The roofers could’ve accidentally did it when they were spraying who knows but nobody’s going to take responsibility for it.

      @@michaelzomerfeld9120 Not sure exactly what part you are referring to, I would love to here detailed feedback on process. Most of our installation methods come directly from manufacturers application handbook. www.certainteed.com/resources/FlintlasticApplicationManual.pdf
      We primarily use Certainteeds installation guide.

    This hurts to watch. Do not make instructional videos just because you read a handbook. Your base completely lets go during the first winter because it's not torched properly. You have to fully base your opening before putting your scupper in to prevent all airflow and moisture from getting at the rest of your torching. You never run your field cap up the wall. Do not leave big wrinkles and air pockets in your torching. If you have to liquid membrane the entire area after you torched it then get off the roof. The only part that gets liquid membrane as a precaution is your bleed out termination inside the scupper because the 90s will let go over time no matter how well they're torched. The problem with this is there's a lot of people that watch this and then think they can do it and it fails, I fix this kind of poor work all the time.
