You're a legend. Thank you so much for this video, I've gone from scratching my head to 5 perfect V necks. You explain it so well and sufficiently slowly. I also like the way you encourage beginner sewers! Really good, thank you again.

Thank you so much for this! I'm not making scrubs but a tunic for my mum. I've never done a v neck let alone a facing like this before, but you explained it well enough for me to feel fairly confident that I could pull it off. And it worked! (I did the easy way). That feeling when I flipped it over and everything lined up was awesome! I didn't even get any puckering at the point of the v! I also love that you included the back!

I did my very first v-neck band today, it took me to watch 2 you tube vids and then I got it right. I like you 2nd method very much and will sure try it on my next project. STITCHLESS TV how to sew your own style tutorials yes it’s very similar to the way I do it. I learnt it on Abi’s Den on RUclips, she’s showing scrubs too. Your videos are so easy to watch Tree, you have a very natural way, keep up the wonderful work. I hope and pray your Mum is ok ❤️
Your video is perfect and easy to follow! Thank you for sharing! (I’m sorry I posted a previous comment here meant for another video! I’ve deleted it now!)
Hi there! I’m a little confused about which sides you’re facing toward each other when you sew. Using a fabric with a pattern on one side, which sides would I face in toward each other
Yes...you are correct. ..it's not good. Always right sides together.... hopefully i said that and if your flowers are the right side then put those together.
Could you explain how you finished the seams asround the collar. Did you overlock and if so could you videos show this or did you leave the seams unfinished on purpose.
Before beginning to make one of these "V" shaped neck bands - please do read Chris Lusby Taylor's comment below (2 weeks ago). I didn't and exactly the same thing happened, the V turns out too low. Chris explains why and what to do. But you need read it before you start.
@@StitchlessTV It is when the changes are made to create the banded V Neck. Chris Lusby Taylor (comment 2 weeks ago) has an explanation to why this happens.
Two more comments: At 5:40 you say to stay stitch a little bit inside the seam allowance. But the stitches you then sew are almost exactly on the normal seam allowance, so there's a danger that they will be visible. I always sew them well inside the seam allowance, then measure to make sure I place the V strips point 2.4cm past the front centreline when I pin, before I start sewing. This accurately gives the 1cm seam allowance. At 6:50 you lay the V strips along the side of the front that is on your left. It is better to do the other side first, because then you can sew both edges with the seam allowance on the right of the sewing machine needle, so you can see the guide lines. Have the pins pointing to the V, of course. By the way, the only other thing you do differently from me is to twist the second set of raw edges together off the machine. I've been doing it back on the machine, after snipping the V to the stitching. I'll try it your way. It may be easier.
Based on your original pattern you will make a judgment about the depth of the V. You do have an opportunity to change the angle, which will change the depth. It really doesn't matter how wide my band is, the instructions are the same and the seam allowance is still whatever your seam allowance on your pattern is. I didn't then add a seam allowance to where I#d cut my V because I had already pulled back 1cm from the V, allowance for the fact that my edge was folded and the original had a seam allowance for the facing. Thankyou, now have a good day, (l did actually write a more defensive reply as you caught me just as I'd woken up but I do know what I'm doing here) Tree X
@@StitchlessTV , thank you for your reply, but I am still convinced that you show the wrong amount being cut off. You say "What you need to do is get that piece and then fold back the seam allowance then place it on your pattern in such a way that it is a seam allowance away from the original V neck that you were going to add facing onto with a centimetre seam allowance, so that's the reason for that, and then, when you've got it in that position draw a line on your pattern. I have done that, so that is my line, so I folded back that line on the pattern and that is the size that I cut out the pattern to." That is wrong. That cuts a centimeter too much off the sides of the V, which puts its point 2 centimeters lower on the chest, revealing too much flesh, I'm told. In my example, if the finished visible width of your band is to be 3 centimeters, you place the 3cm band 1cm away from the cut edge of the original pattern piece, so you draw a line 4cm from the original edge and you cut along that line. No, you should cut 3cm from the original cut edge, not 4.
@@chrislusbytaylor3197 Chris, thank you for this. My scrub top turned out to be too low on the chest. Only suitable for a man I think! I'll do the next one without the additional seam allowance.
Oh.....Ok. well based on the Scrubs pattern that I used you can see the results. You could try to overlap a bit more but that will effect the back neck. Or in the 1st place start with a V that is not so deep.
I’ve just made a mock neckline where I’ve taken the original pattern back 3cm and not 4cm. This has given me the same size neckline as a V facing. If you take the strip 1cm back on the original pattern, measure the width of the band and then cut, you’ll lose another 1cm when stitching on the band. This is why my first neckline was too low. Hope this makes sense 😊.
Just about to try this. I don’t have an overlocker, which stitch do you recommend to finish seams, I have a few zigzag variations. Do others zig zag seam allowance together, or do them separately before sewing. Thanks 😊
Well....I usually overlock or zig zag as I go because you will then see which seams can tgen be done together or not. Have fun and THANKYOU for making Scrubs. Tree X

OK - will perhaps try just taking 3cms from the neck edge - thanks for your speedy reply 😊.

Thankyou
Just about to try this. I don’t have an overlocker, which stitch do you recommend to finish seams, I have a few zigzag variations. Do others zig zag seam allowance together, or do them separately before sewing. Thanks 😊
Well....I usually overlock or zig zag as I go because you will then see which seams can tgen be done together or not. Have fun and THANKYOU for making Scrubs. Tree X
