In a Toronto parking garage, in the evening, with a pregnant woman and a scared young boy, men approaching with no uniforms, then a car... I'm sure I would have been thinking robbery or carjacking,...I'm sure I too would have panicked, only thinking of of my vulnerable family and escape. In that state, would I have noticed the officer lying on the ground?.... REALLY not sure. What a terribly sad story.

so why were two cops in ordinary citizen clothing approaching a car aggressively? If I saw random people coming and banging on my car, I’d be scared too. Especially with everything going on in Toronto right now, who can blame him for trying to protect his family?

I think police should have a way to identity themselves that is fast and unfalsifiable. Many criminals stop people pretending top be police officers with uniforms and badges.

They were in plain clothes, and did not show identification or explain why they were pursuing him/bashing his windows/pointing firarms/ or blocking them from leaving. He had every reason to respond fearfully and flee. Police created an unsafe situation by disregarding safety protocol, and escalating fear - without even having reasonable cause. They also positioned their bodies between vehicles, which wasn’t safe. Zameer seems to have a better understanding of how things work here than you - as he knows officers are required to identify themselves, show ID, and explain why they want to talk to you. The police are responsible for creating an unsafe situation- and they need to accept their responsibility for the loss of life that resulted from that.

Seems to me the cops weren’t in their uniforms, being aggressive and randomly mistaken identity. Looks to me that these undercover cops were in the wrong acting like a bunch of a thugs. Especially no shame to act that way in front of a pregnant woman and young toddler.
