Beef in pastry? So it's basically beef Wellington. It's crazy and sad though that thanks to inflation, it's way too expensive to get a quarter of the ingredients, especially all that alcohol!

    JohnKing :
    I noticed that every
    ingredient has been
    prepared....the "mis en
    place " would take
    "ages"...plus the calories,
    (lots, quite often),
and the booze ( expensive) .
    Plus, the "time-lapse"
    makes it look easy...
Imho, it all adds up to
    quite a palava ...🤔😊.
    Will do the red cabbage
    recipe...looks good 😊👍,
    and not pricey ingredients...
    no quantities given here :
    clever ! 😊🦉:

Love Delia.... never had a failed recipe, but I totally disagree on one point, which seems tiny but actually matters a lot imho. That is, never, ever, ever use foil to cover any steamed pudding, be it Christmas, suet, sponge or whatever. . Instead, cover the pud with buttered greaseproof paper first, pleating to allow any expansion, then cover with pleated muslin cloth, tie with string, then steam. When steamed and cold, change for clean coverings and store. Believe me, it really does taste better, and for some reason, suet puds and sponges are fluffier and just.... nicer! Honest!😊

It's hardly work. You put it on and every few hours you check to make sure it hasn't boiled dry. If the water is low, add more, making sure its boiling.

Not at all, I and my family have eaten this way at Christmas all our lives (I’m 50 and they’re in their 70’s). We are all slim, fit, healthy active people on zero medication. It’s a special time,of year to gather with friends and family and eat delicious home cooked food. I’ve just spent the evening making delias bread sauce, red cabbage and cranberry and orange sauce that I will freeze and use on Christmas Day. I’ll be making Christmas cakes tomorrow, mum makes the Christmas puddings. If I had to choose my last supper this meal would be it, heaven on a plate.

Delia is a great cook, but she lives in a world of her own. A sort of upper middle class, wealthy, posh world. This show has "easy" or "simple" receipes according to her, but for most of us, they are difficult and very expensive to make. She is sort of preaching to the wealthy, upper middle class and beyond, and lets the rest of us settle for Jamie Oliver etc.

    • @manmaje3596

@@manmaje3596 You are one person. Just look at her ingredients and the time to make the food. She is preaching to a certain audience demo that is most certainly not working class mothers at home and have little money to spend on food.
