Johnny Butler was bemoaning the killing by us, of carrots and grass-and all the other veggies that exist. A shame, but worth everyone dying in order to prevent? I'm sure the reason some people are meateaters isn't because they have a desire to cause suffering to animals. I love John but I find it hard to believe he truly thinks chopping the head off a lamb and chopping a carrot are even remotely the same thing… He often speaks of perspective, what is the perspective of pain from a lamb’s mind in comparison to a carrot? Plants cannot even perceive the concept of pain, let alone experience it. Although he no doubt loves animals, he clearly contradicts himself on his stance of animal rights.
What is crazy is that the person I admire and think of as one of the smartest people I have ever had the pleasure to listen to, and one of the dumbest people on the planet, were both born in the same week in May in 1937. The smartest being George Carlin, my hero. The dumbest being John Butler of course. He has never read a science book in his life and thinks earth is 6000 years old.
I regret having to say, John is misleading a lot of people about the mind. Just because someone is old, doesn't make what they say a fact. But what are facts, but accepted opinions. Having spent years learning from a master teacher, I can tell you there is great value in learning to still the mind. You don't force anything as he tries to make it sound. You simply surrender, and if you go deep enough all duality stops. I have been in deep meditation for as long as 17 hours. And can tell from my own experiences the value in disciplining the mind. I wonder how he thinks Jesus did all those miracles, because they were done with the power of focused intent.
