    Teresa Berganza should give master classes in giving master classes! She is so disarmingly honest, AND funny, in a nice way. Her little smooch to the pianist is irresistible, she is all enthusiasm, warmth and generosity. An excellent advice to the talented mezzo, direct attack on the final top note!

    I'm surprised because mezzos typically develop later, but this mezzo has a beautiful voice and to me sounds like one of the best out of all these masterclasses.

    Back in the 1960s Von Karajan called Teresa Berganza the greatest living Mezzosopranist. I have a 1960s LP of hers, singing Mozart. My favourites on it are Non so piu & Voi, che sapete, from her part as Cherubino in the Marriage of Figaro. Esto mujer es la mas estupenda cantadora todo el mundo. Espero para ver y escuchar ella al escenario una dia.

    @Webarton I do agree, what's most important is to have the accurate sense of the shape of the note and vowel inside your head (physically and mentally). How open your mouth is from the outside is of secondary importance, or irrelevant as long as the sound is being properly produced.

    I believe (scusami che scrivo en inglese, e piu facile) that Berganza is recommending that she form an "a" vowel inside so as to place the note with an open throat, as Margot says. If you notice, it sounds like an 'o' as she sings it anyway. Berganza,of course, would know the words, but I am sure she practices as she preaches; I sing this aria too and find that when I form the "o" closer to an "a" it is much easier to sing - and still sounds like an "o!"

    I'm glad to know Ms Berganza is leaving behind her the legacy of one of the most spotless techniques ever heard on the stage.
    As a singer in training I also love the opportunity to watch her while teaching: I feel I have the opportunity to "steal" a little from her though her pupils here are at a far more advanced level than I.
    Thank you for posting

    Another thing I notice in this great class is her modelling of the 'inner smile' that is so helpful to singers who have difficulty opening up inside. It helps to lift the muscles that are dragging down so that the upper resonant cavities can open up.

    Berganza should let the student always sing an aria through before interrupting. After that, she can jump all over the performance (if not the singer:!)

  • @DiomedesDioscuro
    @DiomedesDioscuro 4 года назад +3

    La estudiante tiene mucho potencial pero algunos problemas evidentes de emisión, que Berganza no está haciendo nada para corregir. Al contrario, le está dando malos consejos que empeoran sus agudos: le dice explícitamente que los abra, y es lo que hace siempre con sus alumnos, porque era un problema que tenía ella misma. Muy simpática y de muy buen trato, pero no me parece que le esté dando buenos consejos. Me pregunto qué evolución tuvo la estudiante.

    • @victoro7396
