Hey Keltie, I just really wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you as an influencer talking openly about the pressure to constantly buy stuff online and about how hard it can be to remind yourself that this actually isn’t necessary and such a harmful behaviour (to both people and the planet). Personally I find that “creating a capsule wardrobe” can become such an easy excuse because, as you say, products being marketed in that way make us feel like we just “need” this one final piece etc. So thank you so much!

So glad you didn’t scrap this! But also I think it’s one of those “you never know what someone’s going through” moments because I watch your videos and think “wow, she rocks the athleisure chic look.” You always have the cutest sets. Healthy skin and hair is honestly its own accessory and paired with your jewelry choices elevate each look beyond just a gym fit. Your pieces are quality. To me, it always appears effortless, fit, cool. I think there is a spectrum to styling leggings and a sweatshirt, and you are far from the pilled legging/15 year old oversized faded tee/did I brush my hair before bun today/shoes are a different color from dirt end of things (calling myself out)

@@KeltieOConnor I do think you rocked that emerald green, but given your colouring I think something a touch lighter - e.g. a dark kelly green - might be even better!
But colour analysis should definitely be used as inspiration/guidance, not the law! I'm a Winter and I sometimes deliberately wear Spring colours in spring, Summer colours in summer etc - once you know the "rules", part of the fun is in breaking them!!

If you want to try purple try like a sunny lilac! Yellow is hard as a blonde I agree. Also I'm also a blue/green spring girlie, but yeah sometimes the deeper blue and greens that match my eyes really well wash my skin out and the colour wears me. That being said, it's not practical to wear only pastels as a near 30yo woman 😅

I’m pretty surprised that you spent 2k on that stylist - I think you’re right on the money when it comes to your body shape and the colors that do/don’t work. Yellow definitely makes you sallow! I don’t see you looking good in outfits for hourglass! She also gave you a ton of black outfit recs, which isn’t bright spring. We often don’t know what looks best on us, but we usually know what looks the worst. Trust your gut lol
Also - good for you for bringing personal finance into this. The progression of ‘finding your personal style’ to ‘oh shit I need to save money instead’ is very relatable and something a lot of us come to. Thank you! It was a refreshing end to the video.
Oh, also - do you use any self-tanner? Because that will throw off how colors look on you by a LOT

Awesome video! I went down the youtube rabbit hole of color analysis, and one thing that i found out that surprised me and made me think...a favorite color of mine that make my eyes pop isn't my color. It makes my eyes look blue greener BUT it doesn't make my skin look luminous, so thats where color specialists look for.

    Damn, now that's a video!
Not a stylist but an artist here, but I think your feeling about the mauve/yellow tones might have a solid reason - they're probably going to bring out the yellow tones in your hair. So if you're into keeping that cool toned it's going to be counterproductive.
Now I'm off to shop my wardrobe and see what around my house I can repurpose as a bag (anything you can carry counts as a bag 😂) - looking forward to following along with your journey

Apparently any beige washes me out horribly and cool toned pastels look pretty nice on me. I thought it was so crazy because I always thought I was warm and yellow (I’m SE Asian) and cool tones?! Wild.

Are you still using self tanner? That might be impacting what you think looks "good" vs not good. The sky blue and yellow looked really good, I think a lavender color would too! Shopping secondhand is also great for the budget and the Earth. I get most of my wardrobe on Poshmark or the thrift store.

I love how you ended the video. You are so right, and I think this is the right attitude. Now, I have been looking at befores and afters of stylists that were intended to prove that one color looked better than the other on their clients. And yeah - kinda…but mostly the difference is really minimal. Not worth the hassle in my opinion. That red, light blue and yellow (yes, yellow! It looks great on you) you tried on looked amazing on you, but so did the emerald green. Personally, I’ll just wear the stuff I like, regardless of color, because the difference is not that big.

Keltie, I LOVE how you ended this video!!! It was fun seeing you get styled and learn some things about yourself (girlllll you're totally an hourglass, just a slender one), but I didn't feel like I could connect with it until you started talking about the reality that for most of us, buying a whole new wardrobe is simply not a reasonable or even possible thing to do. That being said, it would be super fun to see "shop your closet" videos, even just as shorts or something where we can see you putting your new knowledge into practice!

I love this, especially the financial aspect! I love following along on people's financial journies 😅
A budgeting idea I thought of while watching this is to save up double of what something costs so you use 1 half to buy the item you want, and the other half goes toward debt. Saving twice the amount you need takes longer so it'll help you decide if you really want/need that item, and you're paying off debt as well!

I love that you included a clip from the Waveform podcast. The guys are great to listen to. And that you included the music clip from when they introduce their Trivia Quiz section of the podcast. Subtle easter egg.
Thank you for also talking about the financial aspect. I've been debating getting a bit of help from an online stylist (in another country from where I live) to assess colours and body shape. And debating about whether it's worth it. And then i think "ugh it's better to do the analysis before spending more on clothes and make-up"... So I'm stuck in that mental debate loop.

I REALLY loved this video Keltie! As a fashion designer (and “compulsive” shopper) I decided to do a no-buy year last year (which I documented on my channel). This year is focused on a low buy year and trying to reach some financial goals, as well as unpacking more of my own challenges with reigning in my spending. We are bombarded with marketing which makes it difficult to ignore especially when we’re feeling stressed out (that’s my state 95% of the time 😂). So I’m proud of you for choosing to focus on your finances and not be sucked into the black hole of consumerism.
Also congratulations on your graduation!! ❤❤❤

The way I do it is have basics but slowly over time accumulate a fun piece here and there. I rotate things. I look at my closet as a collection and not a season, and not a year.
Also Keltie, get that money!! Do an ad when you need to, it’s not like you don’t give amazing content already!

I literally went through a similar process lately…we even share the same body types and my color is a light summer which shares some colors with the light spring palette (slightly more faded and cool leaning than you). Thanks for keeping it real and actually helpful for people who look for fun but realistic guidance and connection on this platform :)

I would love to see you do a video about a “no spend” month where you only buy the absolute necessities like food, transportation, etc. but no new clothes, home items, impulse buys, eating out, etc. My husband and I did “No Spend January” and it’s amazing what you don’t actually need when you have made a commitment to yourself not to spend unnecessarily (and making a video helps!) We are up to our eyeballs in debt so I absolutely felt you at the end of this video. I’m looking forward to see how things progress for you and wishing you the best!

the second half of the video is just chef's kiss 😙👌 very relatable and true content! well done on that! it's good to know about color analysis etc but if one doesn't have the budget, one shouldn't feel obliged to spend tons of money on new clothes to fit in just because the internet (or the world it seems like) pushes them to do so...

I did color analysis a few years ago (deep autumn!). I had always thought I looked terrible in blue, but it turns out that shade really really REALLY matters. Most blues aren’t great on me, but there are a couple that are amazing. Probably the same for your purple and yellow.

You have prominent Limbal rings around your irises. I’ve found that people who have those might indeed be classified as a lighter or less contrasted season but if they don’t stray too far from the undertones that suit them best they can get away with more contrast and hence they often look good in black, navy, and dark greens, chocolate browns, etc. I LOVE the note this video ended on. YAAASSSSS !!! There is no reason exploring your style more has to cost you a lot of money or happen instantly. It can and really should evolve over time because life is still moving along and you will continue to grow and change and want different things from your clothing. And it’s the truest thing ever to realize that you do not know to want what you do not see. My father has become my style icon as I have gotten older. He refused to buy poor quality, he knew what suited him and stuck with it, and he hung onto pieces for DECADES. I have one of his shirts hanging in my closet that he had my entire life. That shirt is iconic now. That is what I want my style to be: iconic. And that takes time. You have to earn that kind of style the same way you earn your wrinkles and grey hair and wisdom and confidence: the passage of time. I want things that last and work hard for me, not the other way around. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation 😊❤

Ohhhhh girl, ive been waiting for this one since you mentioned finances in a past video. I cant wait to see you tackle this challenge. You're a dedicated girlie and I know you'll be able to knock it out of the park.
Some recommendations from a girl whos paid off $34k in student debt and $17k in credit card debt. Be patient and be kind to yourself but also recognize you may have to parent yourself in a way you were never parented before, especially if you're like me and grew up with Nooo financial literacy.
    Recommndations;
Caleb Hammer - youtube (cuts the crap and makes you look at things realistically)
Erin Lowry - Broke Millenial (takes a look at the psychology of money and different ways to have convos surrounding money and how to pay off debt.)
Gabrielle Talks Money - RUclips (Canadian financial girlie who breaks things down in easy to understand videos)
You got this, sorry for the essay, ever since i started my journey (now debt free and starting to save for retirement and invest at 30) i am very passioned by it.

A note to everyone about colors - all colors can suit someone. It is about the shade and intensity! All colors come in warm and cold shade and different intensity, that is what makes the difference. If you have a warm undertone, a sun yellow will suit you, if cold - a greenish yellow, neon direction is the way to go. It takes time and practice to learn to determine if the shade is warm or cold. And it can be very challenging to determine it in artificial lighting. The intensity relates to how much contract you have in between different elements of your face - skin, eyes, hair, lips. The higher the contract, the more intense colors one can wear. By the way, such tests should also be made without make up on for more accurate results. Awesome video!

Flamboyant and Dramatic are different in this context!
If you look up Kibbe style typing those words refer to clean lines and being tailored (which is actually your style). The opposite would be soft or natural meaning round, feminine, flowy.

one paradigm shift that broke me free from consumerism is that i do not need to look good. if i like pretty things, i can appreciate them like appreciate a painting, but i do not need to be that painting if that makes sense. i just need to dress clean and appropriate. It took me about two years between realizing this and actually spending much less on stuff like fashion, makeup and lifestyle items that are not essential to my life and career. This does not apply to everyone of course, maybe especially not influencers.

I think this is so beautiful, that you’ve mentioned finances here instead of just showcasing: go get yourself a 2k$ stylist and spend 5k$ on clothing.
Working in marketing, I always have to remind myself that at the end of the day it’s the viewer’s responsibility to make a purchasing decision. And we all need to be very cautious of why we are buying certain stuff.
    Love your videos!

I really am loving this series, Keltie & for the past few years have been slowly going on my own journey. I got my color analysis done this past summer, but have yet to book a stylist. Am thinking about it though! What I've found to be a good start, at least for me, is watching a lot of RUclips on sustainable fashion, & personal style & finances. I really like Christina Mychas & the Financial diet for those & bonus points, Christina is also Canadian & got herself out of a lot of debt, so you may find her helpful. Looking forward to continuing this journey with you!

Keltie, you're super relatable and I think it's great that you're being open about your financial situation. It will help a lot of your viewers. I'm really into personal finance, and while I'm sure you're already looking into how to manage finances from way better and actually qualified sources, I would love to share my few cents. A lot of personal finance advice boils down to: 1. establish savings equal to 3 months of expenses. 2. focus on eliminating debt. 3. identify a new financial goal and set up a savings plan for it (house, retirement, fancy gadget, kids, whatever).
But those are long-term steps. Everyone starts with the basics: tracking what you spend and earn in a month, or even one week if one month is too much. Be honest and non-judgemental. Track everything. Look at your big annual expenses and overall income. Understand where your money is coming from and where it's going. Once you know that, you can start to identify where to direct money that comes in, and where to stop spending money.
I also think it's a really good idea to think about your attitude to money. What ideas do you have about yourself and money? Do you spend it while you have it because historically you didn't have much? What's your history with money? What was your family like with money? Were you taught about savings and money management or not? If you can understand what your money blueprint is, that will make savings and debt repayment a lot easier, because you'll understand why you spend the way you do and how to change it to reach your financial goals.
Sorry for the novel-length comment, and hope this helps.

I think the thing with color analysis that might be lost here is that fake tan can mess with your results. You look so fabulous in those cool tones- maybe without the tan you would lean into light summer? Such a fun video
