my granfather had a vintage hudson 646 and it still runs today. It was built 1954-1958 and the wise and everything is in good condition. I might do a video on is soon.
Well worth the wait, for your review of the Santa Fe 4-8-4 northern ! EXCELLENT review as usual ! Held of purchase of 3751, or 3759 until your review was out. I STRONGLY AGREE with your comment on lionel's discontinuing the whistle, & cylinder effect on traditional steamers.
Really love the extra footage you are putting into your running sessions Eric. Your layout is the perfect showcase for this beauty! Thanks for continuing to put out these fantastic reviews, and as always have a great day!
AWESOME review Eric!!!! Love the Northern, Lionel did a great job with it! Hopefully Lionel will come to their senses and bring back the advanced smoke effects, swinging bell, etc. The last couple of years have been great with all of the new and exciting innovative features Lionel has brought to the hobby! Thanks for the vid bud and have a great one!
Wow, she's a beaut. 3751 is running on the Surfline, which is by my house. Anyone who hears a steam whistle while on the Surfline, it'll be 3751, but she doesn't have the smokestack that you have on it, or so I believe. I have seen her, and she is the most magnificent locomotive I have EVER seen, atleast for now. Everything on it is amazing, IRL and in model.
Thanks for posting this video Eric . Awesome how you go into all the detail of the engines. I just found this engine and bought it, good price too ! I had to have after watching your video . Awesome engine ! I have the 3rd rail brass Santa Fe 3751 with QS 2 + sounds sitting in a display case. Nice looking engine but you have to be so careful moving it . Awesome watching the 3751 & 3759 double header,
Thanks for another great review on a beautiful engine! I don't own any steam engines, but if I were to buy one, the working steam whistle, dynamo, etc. would definitely be a selling point for me (Steven Williams aka MrNemsis63).
What a item. I’ve built a shelf in my room downstairs at my house. Took some tracks and set some Lionel Steam Locs on the tracks with their coal car behind them. They are all lined up. I don’t have a train diorama but I am gonna make one for them. I just have the trains all lined up on my shelves looking awesome. I’m gonna have to make a train diorama for them so I can see them drive pulling cars.... that’s another thing I have to buy for them. I also will buy freight cars and diesel locomotive models to make it really realistic. Lol. It’s just something to really enjoy playing with and looking at. Model trains are so fascinating. Especially the steam ones because they look like the real thing. They all work. Steam too! Such a fantastic model well worth the price!
I sent this link to my bro in law and he wrote back with a one word impression: "SICK !!:.. Couldn't agree more. Hmmm, now that I'm thinking of it, I'm wondering now if he was referring to Erics decadence after hearing he purchased TWO !! Love this train !
Another great video! I wonder, with all the sounds that Legacy system has, I wonder that they've never added a wheel flange squeal for curves and such...the could put the control switch for it on a passenger or freight car. Just an idea.
Eric, You do the best reviews I have ever seen, Your dedication to this hobby is amazing, Your layout is also amazing,I have watched just about all of your review videos, I had been collecting Lionel postwar trains on and off for 40 years but now after watching your videos it has sparked a new interest in running modern O scale Lionel trains, What sounds! Thanks for the spark,If I may ask,How do you afford to buy all this stuff,Your diesel collection is just (again)amazing. Thanks Fred
That's a very cool locomotive! One of my favorites that still operates in real life. It sucks that Lionel is getting rid of such cool relatively new features though. Lionel produces NASCAR diecast cars now also and this year they took a lot of detail out of the engine compartment and chassis. They say costs are rising but I sure hope they're telling the truth.
@@robertnielsen2461 I believe hes referring to them (Lionel) possibly wanting to keep the profits ($$) hush hush. Think about it. If you found out that 90% of the sale price was profit would you be as quick to hit the 'Buy' button ? Even if you are a millionaire. Its just human nature.. Yes, the 90% profit is over exaggeration but just trying to make the point.
Eric, You are right about Lionel's mistake in eliminating the steam whistle effect. I was going to buy their GS2 and Berkshire but I stopped when I found out they do not have this feature...BIG Mistake Lionel. Now my money will go to MTH, they seem to be more consistent. I hope Lionel listens to their customers who are loyal to them for years and pay their salaries....Cheers for a good review Eric.
Sad Lionel is cutting back on the smoking whistle. We want MORE features in our trains, not less. Cool double header, that's so fun to watch! I also like the bell too. Sounds so clear and bold, like a church bell! All - in - all, a great engine and a fantastic video Eric! Thanks!!!
Nice train!! At the 20:26 mark I seen you have a Southern Pacific Daylight. I looked through your videos, I might have missed it, and I could not find a video for it. Is there any way you could do a video of the SP Daylight of the sounds and it in motion please?? A big 4449 fan here lol
As an HO and S fan I am impressed with this locomotive. Love the steam whistle effect. I just converted an O Gauge two rail brass locomotive to QSI DCC w/sound for a customer and it operates great. Certainly didn't add all these extras however. If only I could. Great video and point for Lionel. Remember however it took them decades before they ever built scale equipment. Yes, I am an American Flyer fan from the 50's.
Great review as always. I'm amazed that Lionel is cutting features on there locomotive's, they will be left in the dust when other mfg. develop better loco's with the features that people want!
hey eric, can you please do a full review on that weathered dash 8 narrow nose engine for me please? if you can that would bring me alot of pleasure!!!:)
Once again a professional review and video! On a prototypical steam engine, you sometimes see the drive wheel spinning, a couple of turns when starting up. Can this be done with your engines or do the rubber drive wheels prevent this from happening? Just wunderin'... Bob
Another Great Review!!!! Love all of your videos and amazingly detailed reviews!! A Question though. Do you have any New Haven Engines or Rolling Stock?
I managed to find a pair of N scale steam with Soundtracxx Tsunami decoders. They are a S2 Northern and a Texas 10 Wheeler both for PRR the S2 is the shrouded version similar to the SP GS4. Pennsy never had one but it was a fun idea anyways. Great videos on your Northern and Texas engines.
it would be neat if lionel could make a model of the 4960 from the grand canyon railway then many people would have a model version of the 4960 and 3751 double heading like they did at the nrhs convention special in 2002 and again in 2012
The detail on the engine is amazing. How can I get Lionel's catalogs delivered to my home address? Also, do you have any videos up that demo vintage trains from back in the day?
JUST FYI, I heard from a Lionel dealer that the failure mode of the steam whistle were too high and costing too much warranty repairs, This is only one dealer I talked to, so please take that into consideration.
I love watching these lionel steamers, a pity they're getting rid of the good stuff from the ordinary models, that'd be the only reason I'd buy one, for these cost a lot of dough! Partly why I'm into live steam instead, costs less, and you'v got a real steam locomotive instead of an imitation of one, albeit a really clever imitation. I still like these, though, they look good and they sound amazing, wish I knew somebody who'd let me run one, if only just once.
I know I'm not Eric, but I think I can answer this question. Theoretically, it can be done with any engine. There a few ways that almost guarantee that happening, but the most common is having too heavy of a load attached to the locomotive. Two things will happen then. It either will pull and not move, or spin it's wheels. But generally with modern locomotives, and you take it slow with the right load, it won't happen.
It'd be cool just long enough for you to notice the black deposits (since the only way you can get black smoke is by incomplete combustion) accumulating on your layout and walls, followed by you wondering 'what is this doing to my lungs?' O_o
This AT&SF unit utilises all the different smokestack tops and I would use the 3rd top for my A.T.S.F. 3751 train. Edit: I would rather use the second stack, which is used on the real 3751
Hi Eric: I just watched your 2013 review of this beautiful 2012 engine and am wondering if anyone else has noticed that at the beginning of the video the graphic that comes on screen incorrectly refers to Lionel's product number 6-38055 (which is the 2004 version of engine #3751) instead of the 2012 product #6-11332. Just wondering?
Hi Eric I was wondering after i saw this video I really wanted one but there are no close place where I live that sell them I've I paid u for the train could you send me it
The most Efficient and powerful of Steam Locomotives of similar design (2 motors driven by steam, not four) remains Forever THE NEW YORK CENTRAL NIAGARA'S, ESPECILLY The type 2 version. Compare the weight of The Niagra against the other Northern style Locomotives, then compare the Horsepower, Boilers Push Rod designs etc. Clearly The Niagara was the champion of Steam Locomotives. Sad that only models remain to show us what we missed.
That whistle is absolutely incredible!!
And that billowing smoke, beautiful!!
I've actually personally worked on ATSF Northern 2926. These things are true monsters.
Wow cool
One dum quescion: Can you comverd the 3751 in to a 2926?
I like the normal funnel the most, and that whistle...MIND BLOWN
This is one impressive engine. The whistle and bell sound exactly like the real thing.
Beautiful locomotives!
This is just beautiful, i swear, i could just sit down there for hours at a time. We are never too old for toys!
my granfather had a vintage hudson 646 and it still runs today.
It was built 1954-1958 and the wise and everything is in good condition.
I might do a video on is soon.
You have a beautiful collection. You have some beautiful engines.
THE WHISTLE NAILED IT!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL LOCO
Wow! I am totally blown away by this one! What a beauty! This is how model railroading should be! Thanks for posting!
Hi Eric, you steams are excellent and it looks coolest while you put the train double-headed. Thanks for sharing~~!
Because the glass is tinted green.
Great Review Eric, that loco puts out a good amount of smoke -Mitch
Eric, thanks again for taking the time to shoot such nice clear video of your trains to share with us.
Well worth the wait, for your review of the Santa Fe 4-8-4 northern !

Great review and running session Eric, love the sounds and looks of that model! Thanks for sharing!
I ran this engine at my local train store it is very nice love the smoking whisle
Eric your trains rock! I love your trains!
Beautiful...thanks for review
Very nice locomotive Eric!
One of my favorites.
I keep mine double headed. They look great together. There are my favorite.
This thing puts out more smoke than most other Lionel trains that I've seen

Love all the smoke stacks

I've seen that engin at Fullerton railroad fest at the Metrolink and Amtrak train stashine

Awsome review
FINALLY! A 3751 model with a CORRECT sounding whistle and bell!
Thanks!
I sent this link to my bro in law and he wrote back with a one word impression: "SICK !!:.. Couldn't agree more.

Too good. I hope you realize how lucky you are!
Awesome double header. I think I'd pay for the whistle effect. We're putting money out anyway may as pay for what we want.
Congrats on over 5,000 subscribers!

Michael Leidy Why would they be dishonest??

My son thinks you have a really great Santa Fe Northern steam engine and passenger cars. He wants to come visit your house if we ever go to Georgia.

Love the loco, layout and the echo on the whistle. I wish lionel would make a Frisco 1522 modwl
Thanks!!!
Really good buy dude!
i’ve been on #3751 before. got to blow its whistle too! very pretty engines
The whistle sounds like it was recorded off of Ohio Central 6325.
He was referring to you opening up the smoke box and saying "Like that."
Thanks. I've got a couple pieces of NH rolling stock.
Lionel sound in my opinion is the " Standard of the World ". Old slogan rings true !
Dear Eric I am buying this engine cold i still run it on 074

I got one for $500.great price
Uraraka Star69 how the hell did you do that?
Great review as always. I'm amazed that Lionel is cutting features on there locomotive's, they will be left in the dust when other mfg. develop better loco's with the features that people want!
ericstrains i'm giving you 2 thumbs up for your video
...damn it,now "Cast In Details" is stuck in my head
bro i swear that the bell sounds like a bell from Trainz Railroad Simulator
Id like to see the rear facing funnel put on back wards and seeing what that does
The engine sounds on this engine sound similar to the engine sounds of Lionel’s LionChief 2-4-2 locomotives.
This model is superior to even some Vision Line engines! It could easily have been a Vision Line engine with minimal modifications.
hey eric, can you please do a full review on that weathered dash 8 narrow nose engine for me please? if you can that would bring me alot of pleasure!!!:)
Great video once again, and this is just a thought but have you ever about putting stations on your layout for your passenger trains?
AWSOME!!!!!! A LOT OF ASOME TRAINS I LOST COUNT!!!!! YAAA-WHOOOOO!!! DJB43...

Great info : real life train running from calIfornia
I was just about to say that.
I like classic trains than modern trains
the guy who voices the engineer on lionel locomotives always sounds like he has a cold.
I think that model steam trains would be a little cooler if they found a way to create more smoke like a lot of smoke and maybe black are dark grey

Eric please tell legacy station to at least keep the whistle-steam-smoke effect. : - P :)
your still going to review lionel products right?
Will you ever do and/or get 2926? Is it different than the 3700 class?
10 more years until 3751 is 100 years old!
Well almost 9 years left when May of 2018 hits
Did you know that 3751 is also Santa Fe's and Baldwin's first 4-8-4?
Dear Santa...
I got a question i ran iut of smoke fluids can i use cooking oils fir smoke fluids
did you ever review tht conrail engine in the back?
Did they have radio in the 50's?
