    It must be part of the comic book code that all superheroes and supervillains are created by a hilarious lack of safety precautions.

      The irony here is that the door irreversibly locking WAS a safety precaution. A character in the book flatly says so. I guess the line was left out of the film. It was probably too humorous.

      Great observation. It's extremely intentional that he talks this way and it's actually linked to the fact that he walks around without cloths half the time. If you've seen the film he's reached a point in life where he's lost his humanity. The importance of human life and it's meaning have dwindled to the point of nothing, because he has the power of a god and the mind that comes with it. It's truly a fascinating concept. What is a human who loses all notions of what it truly means to be human? A human who loses all notions of what it truly means to be human might become detached from the core attributes and experiences that typically define humanity. This could encompass empathy, emotion, social connections, and moral values. Lacking these, such an individual might struggle to connect with others or grasp the essence of human experiences, living in a state more mechanical than expressive or connected. This is why we see him on Mars in the final scene. He doesn't stay there, but if no one intervened he would have left Earth with the thought of never returning. Completely detached from humanity.

    • @toddblackmon
      @toddblackmon 2 часа назад

      This is most interesting part about this character. Since everything is happening simultaneously, he has no real agency. Every decision or mistake he makes has already been made despite his knowledge of the future. He is simultaneously all powerful and impotent (indicated esp. by the graphic novel depiction of him.)

      I agree that Zach Snyder did justice to this, but... for a while I had a bit of a question here. Not counting the alternate "big event" staged by Ozymandias to get everyone's attention being different between book and movie, I re-read the graphic novel and re-watched the movie. The graphic novel story-boarded the movie almost exactly. Battle scenes, love-making, arguments and dialog... So not counting that final denouement, how much of himself did Zach Snyder actually put into the movie? Most of the work was already done for him. Then I also realized that somehow he got out of the way of the story in terms of how it was presented. Which reveals how much he ACTUALLY did.

    • @T.Y.thescreenwriter
      @T.Y.thescreenwriter Месяц назад +9

      I agree, because he took it nearly word for word, frame for frame from the book. They later released an animated short that was a subplot, that you actually read simultaneously as you read the book. EVRYTHING IS A CIRCLE. I HAVE SEEN EVEN AS IM SEEING.

    • @alienatedpoet1766
      @alienatedpoet1766 Месяц назад +8

      @@kegginstructure That's why I feel like as just a director or cinematographer, Zach Snyder knows how to make movies visually appealing. And when it is stuff that he absolutely adores (which all seems to be edgy) he does great, like 300 (which was based more on another comic than on the historical event) and Watchmen. But then when he got his hands on Super-Man he tried injecting the themes he likes into it and for better or worse didn't do as well. Then there is Rebel Moon which, while marketed as its own thing, was really just Snyder throwing a bunch of his favorite properties into a blender (I picked up Gladiator, Seven Samurai, Conan, Blade Runner, Warhammer 40k, Star Wars) with his own style.
      I think that if Snyder worked with some great writers and producers he'd make better movies more consistently. He can take pre-written material (with the caveat that he REALLY likes it) and does wonders with adapting it. But when it comes to stuff that isn't pre-written for him, it flops.

      🧊THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "the last age in which God is saving man from the imminent destruction of this old world"
      (God incarnated in the mainland of China, which the compatriots in HongKong and Taiwan call the inner-land. When the one from above came to earth, no one in heaven and earth knew about it, because this is the true meaning of God returning to the flesh is not something that anyone is capable of knowing. No matter how great and powerful the work of the Spirit, God remained calm, never betraying Himself. When God ends this phase of His work, everyone will wake up from their long sleep and reverse their past behavior. What He faced were knives and guns and clubs; what He faced and temptation; what He was facing was a crowd of deadly stares. He risks being killed at any moment. However, He came to do the work of perfecting, meaning to do the second part of His work that continued after the work of redemption. In rescuing people from the cross, Jesus only completes the work of redemption; He does not do perfecting work. In the past, this incarnation in the last days may not have been predicted, and thus it laid a foundation for God's coming in the flesh to be even more secret today. Therefore God risked dangers several thousand times greater than those in the Age of Grace to descend to where the great red dragon dwells to do His own work, to pour all His thought and care intoredemption of this group of suffering people, redemption of this group of people who have fallen into the garbage heap. No matter how much human cruelty is, God does not ignore any of it, but He continues to do the necessary work to fulfill the greater assignment given to Him by the Father in heaven. Who among you knows the beauty of God? Who has the ability to understand the will of God the Father? O mankind! When will you be generous in God's heart? He watches, He sits in silence, He waits. Tens of years on earth are like thousands of years in heaven. God Himself is without sin, so why would God be allowed to suffer the same disease as man? God gives man too much, how can man repay God's heart enough?)
      Almighty God said
      God incarnated in the mainland of China, which the compatriots in HongKong and Taiwan call the inner---land. When GOD CAME from ABOVE to EARTH, NO ONE in HEAVEN and EARTH KNEW about it, BECAUSE this is the REAL MEANING of GOD'S RETURN in a SECRET WAY.☀️
      He has been working and living in a human body for a long time, but no one knew it. To this day, no one recognizes it. Perhaps it will remain an eternal puzzle. At this TIME GOD'S COMING in the FLESH is NOT a THING ANYONE has the ABILITY to KNOW. No MATTER HOW GREAT and POWERFUL the SPIRIT'S WORK is, GOD REMAINS CALM, NEVER BETRAYING HIMSELF. 🙏💐
      One might say that this phase of His work seems to take place in the heavenly realm. Although it is completely obvious to everyone, no one recognizes it. When GOD FINISHES this PHASE of His WORK,all will WAKE UP from their LONG DREAM and REVERSE their past BEHAVIOR. 🌷🙏
      I REMEMBER GOD SAID ONCE, "Coming into the flesh at this time is like stepping into a tiger's den." What this means is BECAUSE of this CYCLE of GOD'S WORK is the COMING of GOD in the FLESH and BIRTH in the DWELLING PLACE of the GREATRED DRAGON, His COMING to EARTH at this TIME INCLUDING GREATER DANGERS. What He FACED was KNIVES and GUNS and GUNS; what He FACED and TEMPTATION; he FACED MANY PEOPLE with DEADLY LOOKS. He was RISING to be KILL at ANY MOMENT. 🙏🌷
      GOD CAME with WRATH. HOWEVER, He CAME to do the WORK of PERFECTION, which MEANS to DO the SECOND PART of His WORK that CONTINUED AFTER the WORK of REDEMPTION. FOR the SAKE of this PHASE of His WORK, GOD DESERVES the ULTIMATE VALUATION and PRECAUTION and USES EVERY IMAGINE way to AVOID the ATTACKS of TEMPTATION, HUMBLY HIDING HIMSELF and NEVER DISCLAIMS His IDENTIFICATION. 🙏🙏😪
      In SAVING MAN from the CROSS, JESUS only COMPLETES the WORK of REDEMPTION; He does NOT DO PERFECTION WORK. So only HALF of GOD'S WORK is DONE, FINISHING the WORK of REDEMPTION is only HALF of His ENTIRE PLAN. 🛑
      With the BEGINNING of the NEW AGE and the ENDING of the OLD, GOD the FATHER began to CONSIDER the SECOND PART of His WORK and BEGAN to PREPARE IT. IN the PAST, this LAST DAYS INCARNATION may NOT have BEEN FORECASTED, and thus it LAID a FOUNDATION for GOD'S NOW COMING in the FLESH to be MORE SECRET. 🙏
      AT the EARTH of DAWN, UNKNOWN by anyone, GOD CAME to EARTH and BEGAN HIS LIFE in the FLESH. PEOPLE don't KNOW this MOMENT. Maybe they are all fast asleep, maybe many watchers are awake waiting, and maybe many are praying silently to God in heaven. YET in the MIDST of ALL this MANY PEOPLE, NOT ONE KNEW that GOD had COME to EARTH. ☀️
      GOD WORKED in this WAY so that His WORK can be PERFORMED BETTER and ACHIEVE BETTER RESULTS, and also to AVOID many TEMPTATIONS. As man awoke from his deep slumber, God's work was long over and He was about to leave, bringing to an end His life of wandering and temporary stop on earth. Because God's work required that God act and speak personally, and because man had no way to help, GOD ENDURED SEVERE PAIN to COME to EARTH and DO the WORK Himself. NO man CAN SUBSTITUTE GOD'S WORK. Therefore GOD RISKED DANGERS SEVERAL THOUSAND TIMES WORSE than those in the AGE OF GRACE to DESCENT where the GREAT RED DRAGON DWELLS to DO His OWN WORK, to POUR ALL of His THOUGHT and CARE intovREDEEMING this GROUP of SUFFERING PEOPLE, REDEEMING this GROUP of PEOPLE who have fallen into the GARBAGE HEAP. 🙏😪🙏
      Even if NO ONE KNOWS GOD'S EXISTENCE, GOD is NOT ANXIOUS because it is of great benefit to God's work. EVERYONE is SO BAD, so HOW CAN ANYONE TOLERATE GOD'S EXISTENCE? 🙏🌷
      THAT is the REASON why GOD is ALWAYS SILENT on EARTH. NO MATTER HOW EXCESSIVE human CRUELTY is, GOD doesn't FORCE any of it, BUT He CONTINUES to DO the NECESSARY WORK to FULFILL the GREATER ASSIGNMENT GIVEN to Him by the FATHER in HEAVEN. 🙏🙏
      WHO among you KNOWS the BEAUTY of GOD? WHO SHOWS MORE CONSIDERATION for GOD the FATHER'S BURDEN than his SON does? WHO has the ABILITY to UNDERSTAND the WILL of GOD the FATHER? The SPIRIT of GOD the FATHER is often ANXIOUS in HEAVEN, and His SON on EARTH is OFTEN PRAYING for the WILL of GOD the FATHER, His HEART is greatly ANXIOUS. Does ANYONE KNOW the LOVE of GOD the FATHER for His SON? Does ANYONE KNOW HOW the BELOVED son MISSES GOD the FATHER? 🙏😪
      Torn by the separation of heaven and earth, the two continue to stare at each other from afar, side by side in the Spirit. O HUMANITY! WHEN will YOU be GIVEN to GOD'S HEART? When will you UNDERSTAND GOD'S INTENTION? 🙏🙏💐
      FATHER and son ALWAYS DEPEND on each other. WHY THEN they SHOULD SEPARATE, ONE in HEAVEN ABOVE and ONE on EARTH BELOW? A FATHER LOVES his son as a SON LOVES his FATHER. Why then should He WAIT with SUCH ANTICIPATION and ANXIETY with such ANXIETY? Although THEY were NOT SEPARATE for LONG, did ANYONE KNOW that the FATHER was so ANXIOUS that LONGING for MANY DAYS and NIGHTS and LONGING for the SPEEDY RETURN of His BELOVED son? He WATCHES, He SITS in SILENCE, He WAITS. 😪🙏😪
      ALL of THIS is for the SPEEDY RETURN of His BELOVED son. When will He BE with the SON WHO WALKS on the EARTH AGAIN? Even if once TOGETHER, they WILL be TOGETHER in ETERNITY, HOW CAN HE ENDURE THOUSANDS of DAYS and NIGHTS of SEPARATION, ONE in HEAVEN ABOVE and ONE on EARTH below? TEN YEARS on EARTH are like THOUSANDS of YEARS in HEAVEN. How could GOD the FATHER not WORRY? When GOD CAME to EARTH, He EXPERIENCED MANY CHANGES of the HUMAN WORLD as MAN EXPERIENCED. 😪😪
      GOD HIMSELF is INNOCENT, so WHY will GOD SUFFER from the SAME PAIN as MAN? It is not surprising that God the Father is lying deeply to His Son; WHO can UNDERSTAND the HEART of GOD? 🌷
      GOD GIVES man a LOT; How CAN a PERSON PAY enough of GOD'S HEART? 😪🌷
      BUT the MAN GIVES GOD is TOO SMALL; HOW can GOD NOT WORRY? 😪🙏😪
      (note: 📨ang statement is that this is a prophecy. "The Father will be broken; he loves you because I loved you and believed that I came from God." (John 16:27) And "Listen! I'm coming as a thief! Blessed is that awake and does not break his garment; he will not walk naked and will not be ashamed of the audience!" (Rev. 16:15) 📨
      From "work and entry (4) fulfillment in (Ezekiel 2: 9-10) and in (Rev.19: 9,13)

    The voiceover itself ads gravitas to the entire sequence, and its oh-so-quiet, oh-so-calm pacing and verbiage do an amazing job of literally telling the audience, "Doctor Manhattan is not one of you and is not connected to you."

    2:08 So basically he became Dr. Manhattan as a result of being a complete idiot and ignoring every possible safety protocol to get his damn watch?

      As with most superhero origins, or at least old school ones from the early 1900’s, that’s how most superhero’s came to be. Ever heard of the “fell into a vat of green goo?” trope? There’s a reason for it.
      Regardless, Dr. Manhattan makes the mistake of going back for his watch because, and this is what the story is satirizing, he is destined to become what he is. The superhero origin, no matter how contrived or stupid it seems, is inevitable for the hero no matter what they try to do.
      The movie Cabin In The Woods also makes this same observation with horror movie protagonist who just happen to become stupid at random moments so they can be killed by the serial killer.

    I like the slow motion in this scene, i feel like it shows how he percieves time as well as what he sees and understands and how still everything is to him. Which is why he says “while i am standing still, i prefer the stillness here.” And I know Zack Snyder is THE KING OF SLOW MOTION, but in alot of the scenes in watchmen and some of his other movies it adds a moment of pause to take in the moment, which is why the flash speed force scenes in the snyder cut works… it makes you see the world go slow while barry is moving in fluid motion. In 300, when he kicks the dude down into the pit, it shows the road Leonidas is going down when making the decision that affects the course of the movie, and we must realize that so it gives us a moment to feel and look at what leonidas did. And with dr manhattan’s scenes here with the flashbacks, it shows how he percieves time and how still all things are compared to him seeing every point in time from past, present, and future.
    Just my take
