Awesome videos, helps to watch and have an idea of what to expect before going there.

Thanks mate. Nolan's Brook claims a lot of cars. It looked quite OK when we arrived but after we had waited for 15 other cars to go through (mainly via snatch) they had washed out the creek bed and we lost grip.

That is some awesome swimming! Snorkel is must for those crossings

    • @TrailsTrailsTrails

Absolutely! Also make sure there's no hole. My snorkel lead to a cylinder with the purpose to let dirt drop out by slowing down the airflow. To do so it had a hole where the dirt would be carried out of the cylinder (which I wasn't aware of). Being stuck in the creek the cylinder had time to fill and the engine sucked the water in eagerly. I should have tested the snorkel setup from the previous owner more vigorously.

Did destroy your engine? or it did not take enough water in?
I don't any any fancy setup with draining water/mud - just all the way sealed snorkel. I just checking the filter and path after extreme off-roading to make sure it is more or less clean.

Engine ran on 4 cylinders afterwards. Still pulled through stuff others got stuck in. We drove 2000km back to Cairns without a problem to get it fixed there.

Hey mate, great videos. I just started editing mine from our trip in July. You went in May so a few of the crossings had more water for you. Nolans was still claiming vehicles when we went through. We hooked up before entering, with three straps, in case we couldn't get through, there would be no stopping in the middle. did you get much water in the car? We stayed and towed a few people through, until someone else took over. Of course we got that one that didn't want the safety line and he got stuck. luckily we were still there to come back and drag him out. Great trip though, would love to go every year.

Thanks mate! We had the straps ready to go and were still discussing if we should pull her through right away when my parter decided to just do it. Typical communications problem. We got heaps of water inside. Had to dry the car out for the next 3 days. Con rod bent and fridge fried. Not proud of that. Still drove to the tip and back to Cairns. The GQ just keeps going.

They're a tough truck without a doubt. Bent con rod, did some water get in the motor? Top job of the videoing. I've got so much footage it's overwhelming trying to sort it all.

Do you make any money from the ads on the videos? I use Vimeo.com because I've had trouble with RUclips playing on some mobile devices.

There are drain holes in the airbox so when it rains and water gets in the snorkel it can drain out through those holes. If they are not sealed up when submerged in a crossing like this water will slowly fill the airbox through these holes and drown the engine

That's so awesome! I'm glad the 'troll doesn't just rust away. I've been traveling since I sold you the car but I'll get another 4wd when I'm back Down Under. Unimog maybe?

    • @nickpapa5232
      @nickpapa5232 6 лет назад

oh you didn't sell it to me, the guy you sold the car to sold it to me haha. he just wasn't using it enough so he decided to move it on. plus it needed some love.
i don't know about a unimog lol, bit big to get to those magic high country spots, even in tassie, some of those tracks side struggle to get my motorbike down let alone a unimog lol.
Get another patrol mate ;) it will get you there and back with the biggest smile and with a lot of cash left in your wallet. which means more money for adventures. my misses loves it, i love it. gets me out there. its so easy to fix anything on it, parts everywhere, cheep and if you can't fix it the next bloke coming down tracks probably has one too and can steer you in the right direction.....you know you want to ;) hahaha

I don't get it...... there is a snatch strap there and nobody started pulling right after the truck started floating!HELLO you can pull a floating truck without another truck! one person could pull it close enough to get traction to get out of the deep water before it flooded the engine( oh wait a minute, everybody that was close enough to the vehicle to pull had a beer in they're hand....sorry my mistake /^:)

Actually a lot further from home (Melbourne) but the good old Patrol ran on 4 cylinders back to Cairns without any issues (other than a bit more smoky). Even pulled another car out of a bog at one point lol.

You weren't there. You were sitting on your couch I reckon. The car before made it though. The one before that didn't. That's why there's a snatch strap already attached.
