Yeah I did the telletrack 2 months ago in a stock dmax with a camper trailer and only put it in low range maybe 3 or 4 times. It's an awesome track but yeah all these shows make it out to be way harder than it is.
Drove these for several decades. Unstoppable in the right hands. But its not 12 tonne, thats GVM. Its 5.7 Tonne plus about 1.5 tonne of gear on the tray if all those 44's are full. That's almost the same as the insane weight of the LC/trailer combo. But the mog is cruising it whereas the LC will be working its arse off...and most probably sucking more fuel than the mog!!!
Yep. Mine with Hutchinson wheels and 395's, with front and rear winch bars and 25k winches, tares in at 7.0T flat. To weigh 12T they must have filled the tyres with gold dust. 🤣

I got to drive these in the Australian Army years ago. Also drove the old F-1 6x6 trucks that we had prior to the Unimogs, they were quite the beast to drive (no synchro, noisy AF)

Surprising how much the 79 gets through with that big old hauler on the tow. MOG just pisses it in...seen Ftrucks peel tyres off rims on tracks just because of the ruts being standard width. Luv the remote track chasing episodes...The latest swampy film off the top is great.

Its just that here in Australia, we are backward due to the transport authorities being anal retentive and very ignorant to change and do not permit any of the really serious all terrain vehicles to be imported, so we have learnt to think that the toy's we have like Toyotas, Fords , Datsuns, etc are real 4x4's. Top end all wheel drive vehicles are in the million dollar plus plus range. So for those lucky enough to have even a poor mans small 4x4 such as a Unimog, why not let them have their fun in the sun.

You will eventually break your winches with all that towing. You should never tow with a winch. I love the unimog, used to drive one here in Finland for couple of years =)
Seems those guys are overdoing the drama as they often pick the less sensible track options, so it is not advisable for novices to attempt that strategy for outback journeys, but then it is about entertainment for people, most of whom may never try to do any serious off-road driving.! It remind me of Bear Grylls and his high octane show of survival in the wild, where much of what he do is not something any novice could, or should attempt, as the main objective is creating excitement for entertainment and people should realise that.🙄...
4wd action ( roothy) from years ago lost my interest for the same reason. Roothy came up gunshot in Milo and destroyed a front cv just to get an exciting shit for camera,his face told the truth,far from happy Jan. These guys are entertaining but the thought of dragging the ' toy' trailer every where is ridiculous, a lot of the drama is caused by the weight

After time in the SADF in the Buffel , you know that Unimog will go anywhere ( the Buffel is a landmine proof armoured unimog , South African built for war . Would be interesting to see a team of those tear up the telegraph .
Back in the late 90's we used to race the Unimog through the range out the back of Base and jump them over Creeks and attack the APC terraced hill climb Lock all three diffs low range and dont take ya foot off the gas. Another Mad c--t Foster would drive the Unimog 8th gear in reverse load of old Tea tree dried roots with blokes on the back as if they did a U Turn off the track the old tree stumps would puncture the sidewalls and we had to clear a drop zone. It was mad watching a Unimog doing near 60 plus KMS in reverse with a load and blokes on board but thats why the Took away the units wings because of hundreds of out there shit we got away with...≥
The Track lived up to it's name while I was pulling a trailer with 2 four wheelers a boat and tons of equipment on it LOL🤣🤦♂️🤦🤷♂️ I think that's called overloaded
took a drivers course through there and they consisted of RFSV'S, 6x6 LR and unimog and went through the original gunshot for there were only two ways through without a scratch.

I will never understand why anyone would drag a trailer like that out into that kind of country and trails. Stop being soft and just take a tent and a couple of coolers and some way to cook that's all you need. If you need a big bed and a room around you with all the comforts of home then just take a vacation somewhere and get a hotel room. I've seen more trucks torn up trying to pull trailers in places like this that it makes no sense to even attempt it. To each their own i guess. When i go off to spend a night or two out on the trails i just take the bare minimum of what i need and enjoy the ride without having to lug a trailer all over the place.

The way people inflate their weights... 79 series kerb weight 2200kg = 4000kgs with a canopy haha. Unimog kerb weight 5500kg = 12000kg with a spare tyre and some gear lol. GVM is not your weight...these people always bullshit everyone, it's tiring.

Yeah had a giggle when he keeps mentioning 12 ton. Even the most kitted out Mog camper set ups with all the gear are between 9 and 10 ton.

Yes agree. When you've spent say $150k to $300k upgrading an ex ADF Mog, you don't want to damage it by taking the worst track possible.

The bloody trailer was designed for a regular 4wd not a mog . The tow hitch on the mog is to high.

Unimog is common in Europe with the utility guys. Big toys for serious boys(or girls). It'll wade up to your floorpan no problem.

We did this trek from cabarlah to Bamiga in the unimog. The tyres aren't standard and we had larger winches
