I've barely heard Eddie sing a cover where he wasn't impressive as hell and as great as he is here, it also highlights what an amazing (and unappreciated) vocalist Robin Zander is and what a one of kind voice he has. Until my dying day I'll never understand how Cheap Trick hasn't been more appreciated and enjoyed a higher profile than they do. They are one of the truly great rock bands on the planet and they deserve every bit of recognition that comes their way.
They are not appreciated because their catalogue is weak. Translation. No great song writers in the group. That being said. I have always loved the group. Great guys. Tight band. And the stage act was extremely cool. The accountant pounding the drums and Rick's Huntz Hall act was awesome.
I had the pleasure of helping set up a stage for Cheap Trick many years ago during my college days. They had lunch that day in the area of the stage crew. I sort of regret not introducing myself or saying hello in some fashion. I felt it just wasn't the right moment at the time. In any case, the subsequent show was fantastic. Love these guys.
I love the way he wanders about the stage like he's forgotten why he's there, like a rock guitar hero with ADD .. It's a part of Rick's shtick and we dearly love him for it.
Gotta give Jeff Ament 5,000 “big fan bucks” for having that custom checkerboard bass in this video. 🤟 for the band that put Budokan in the history books. (PS: 2020 is the year that “Live At Budokan” has been selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry.)
This was an absolute bonus for my garden party. Thank you for all of these videos. It's helping with the post-show withdrawal to know I can re-live it. Aces.
I don't think I've ever heard Eddie sing a subpar version of a cover song. He may have a different musical background, but he sounds like he was born to sing this.
no..there is monitor screen you can see he is watching. most of the time he is scrunched over and you can see he is looking down. but yeah, he knows the chorus etc. still good.
the first rock show I ever saw was cheap trick on the dream police tour. What a thrill it would have been to be here. I'm not disappointed tho'. I went to both Toronto shows this week.
If I could time travel back to 1992 or 1993 and tell everyone that one day I would see Pearl Jam singing Surrender everyone would have rolled their eyes.
Nice work! Was supposed to be there,, but crappy seats and I subsequently got better ones in FLL and GA for Wrigley. Kinda regretting giving up this show. Good stuff.
When I think of Ed Veddar the word whimsey does not come to mind. Yet he does a delightful performance with this silly song. Of course, I favor Robin, but it is nice to see Ed enjoy himself with something light hearted.
How is this even a thing without Robin Zander?????????????? Or Bun E Carlo? Saw CT open for Kiss on the LOVE GUN tour, they tore the roof off the place "Ello Kiddies" OMFG !!!!!
so cool to see u comment here I subscribe to about anything any channel that is my beloved Springsteen and the mighty E Street Band related especially ESB 80/81 River era related for that is my favorite album ever n imho their best most prolific period n I have seen ur name comment as well lol just cool to me since CT is my second favorite band. so hello fellow Tramp lol. funny Springsteen is a closet CT Raspberries superfan n they heavily influenced The River pop side. from the original single album to the 13 outtakes or so on Tracks Disc one I believe. so hello very nice to meet u :)
Amazing, Cheap trick in Lubbock TX, the late 90s a member of the audience threw a beer bottle and cheap trick wanted to stop the concert ! Can not blame them at all. Just really surprised to see them chasing after Pearl Jam to revitalize their career, so disappointing, desperate if you really take a look. Not the same America at all, Unfortunately it sucks!!!
Love Ric but don’t understand why he insists on singing backing vox when he always just half asses it. Notice he was attempting to sing dual lead vocals with Eddie (why?) and Eddie blew him off. Then he goes back and forth to different mics singing one or two lyrics etc. silly. He tends to do this consistently at CT shows as well. Besides that, they kicked ass. Eddie kills everything he covers.
Absolute Quality. Pearl Jam never miss a chance to pay homage to their heroes.
Cheap Trick, inducted to R&R Hall of Fame April 8th, 2016, about... fucking... time!!! Long live Cheap Trick.
No doubt. One of the greatest American rock bands of all times!!!
In my humble opinion Cheap Trick is the best pop/rock band of all time. HUGELY underrated.
Pop-punk
I lump The Sweet into that category also.
@@MotorMcMatt I was just telling my daughter that the vocalists (Robin & Brian) remind me of each other!
@@mrcountryxdon’t hear any punk but you do you.

Cheap Trick, one of the best kept secrets!
@@rman52 weak catalog ??
@@aplaceinfrance9279 I changed my mind. CT has as many #1s as the Beatles.

Cheap trick is the RRHOF most underrated band ever yet they are one of the all time best ever to play.
Without Cheap Trick, there would be no Pearl Jam. They blazed the trail and still set the standard for hard work and quality song writing
"WE'RE ALL ALRIGHT!"
This song will be timeless forever....
Cheap Trick: America's House Band. Long may they run...
Amen. Well said. And trust me, they will ...
Time for your medication, Hiccum.
There is no bad version of this song!
"Cheap Trick ' a legendary rock band with soul still relevant enough to play live with Pearl Jam ."
..... or, alternately..... Pearl Jam, a sufficiently "veteran" band that has endured long enough to get to play live with the legendary Cheap Trick.
Gotta love it, Rick in complete control of everyone on that stage. He's a legend of legends.
I love the way he wanders about the stage like he's forgotten why he's there, like a rock guitar hero with ADD .. It's a part of Rick's shtick and we dearly love him for it.
Andrew Francis - they all have ADD. Have you ever seen a fat rock Star? All that creative energy!
@@nadogrl Meatloaf was a fat rock star.
@@rustyrelicsfarm2406 - Haha. Okay you got me there.😂😂😂
@@nadogrl I am so sad he is gone. He was such a great rocker.
I love it!!! Growing up with Cheap Trick... growing older with Soundgarden & CT!!!

I love how Tom Petersson is just hanging out with him off to the side, just grinning away with another bass player.
This is the best I ever heard Eddie. A really good example how wide his vocal range is! Good job fellas!
This was an absolute bonus for my garden party. Thank you for all of these videos. It's helping with the post-show withdrawal to know I can re-live it. Aces.
cheap trick should have been bigger than who they are now! What an amazing live band!
Freedom BS i would hate you for saying that....but that is funny as fuck
Cheap trick and pearl jam.
Anyone who doesn't love this, is to retarded to even try to convince otherwise.
They are big ! Big to us . The drummer just can't get Bun E's feel.
marc demell - he’s good!
They are still big, in a perfect way. They're always touring and getting third row seats is affordable. Rock and roll.
hell of a video. Wow. love and play and track this song. I envy being a guitarist my self. Soo nice and happy for him
in 1978 i was in the 3rd row and almost caught the Kiss record.
I went as well that year...Vancouver
Ok rad
I saw them in 78 in my hometown!
Pearl Trick and Cheap Jam...what a combo!
So happy to have been at this show wayyyy back when :) During the 2nd encore Sting came out and did Driven To Tears. Great show.
I went to grab a beer and missed it
Eddie Vetter continues to astound me, great vocals on on of my favorite tunes! :-). He has never disappointed me with collaborations!
I don't think I've ever heard Eddie sing a subpar version of a cover song. He may have a different musical background, but he sounds like he was born to sing this.
If he's one of your favorites... i hope you know its spelled "Vedder"
Eddie does his homework 'and the kids are alright!"
Rick Neilsen is the man ...
This is so cool to see, great musicians just jamming, showing mutual respect and admiration. Amazing!
I had the privilege of seeing Cheap Trick at San Diego's Street Scene event back in the late 90's. They're AWESOME live.
This was epic!!!
Cheap trick was the precursor to grunge. Stripped down, laid back guys just rocking out . Having a good time
Awesome stuff!! Thanks for uploading, great to see Pearl Jam still active too..
Thank you for all the shows. Much appreciated
It’s obvious that Vedder sang Surrender numerous times as an aspiring musician. Knew the lyrics by heart.
no..there is monitor screen you can see he is watching. most of the time he is scrunched over and you can see he is looking down. but yeah, he knows the chorus etc. still good.
Love when famous bands play other bands music shows respect.
this brings a tear to my eye :)
Pearl Jam has turned into America's greatest cover band
...Dave Grohl’s a bit of a cover animal
Drummer has Bun E's heavy handed drumming spot on......
drrjim Yeah, that’s Matt Cameron.
the first rock show I ever saw was cheap trick on the dream police tour. What a thrill it would have been to be here. I'm not disappointed tho'. I went to both Toronto shows this week.
PJ does great covers, this might be the best

That video was uploaded on my birthday!
Awesome performance!
Great Fun! Just what Rock'N'Roll is supposed to be!
These two bands have such different styles of rock so...it's hard for me to imagine them sharing the stage. 🎸
When I think of Ed Veddar the word whimsey does not come to mind. Yet he does a delightful performance with this silly song. Of course, I favor Robin, but it is nice to see Ed enjoy himself with something light hearted.
Put a smile on my heart.
That was great!
That was very, very sweet.
Actually some talent on stage
kickass!! and Matt made this his own.
Now that's the real treat!
Incredible!!
Great version!
actually impressive bravo Eddie and the gang
f'n classic!! love PJ N CT so cool..
Awesome!
one of rock n rolls weirdest combinations
That was cool!
So great.
I would have shit myself had I seen this!!!!!!
Ricky Nielsen's vocal backup gives this song its identity, if he could just find his mic...
How is this even a thing without Robin Zander?????????????? Or Bun E Carlo? Saw CT open for Kiss on the LOVE GUN tour, they tore the roof off the place "Ello Kiddies" OMFG !!!!!
Pearl Jam jumping around on stage like excited little boys.
Good to see...
Stone- always the coolest dude in the room-
Che bella storia PJ e CT😎😎👏👍
When Gods ROCK!
Matt Playing Bun-E makes so very happy!
One thing about them that you can’t argue is I doubt there’s ever been a band that had more fun playing. Nielsen is a lunatic. In a good way
You haven't seen a show until you've been to a Cheap Trick concert.
Grandissimi
YAYYY !
Pure fun. ;-)

matt cameron of soundgarden doing a cheap trick cover LOL
Nobody sings it better than Robin.
No but Eddie did an incredible fucking job nonetheless.
Eddie just did
Robin is one of rock n roll's most under-appreciated front men
I´m absolutly crazie
Wow
RIp Chris you will be missed....
Like it a lot
I just got a bit emotional. Pearl Trick soothing me
Arno Burtner Cheap Jam is the best band
Hey hey hey
thsts fucking rock in roll
This made me feel sad.
Why?

Eddie's all right
Jeff is all right
Matt is all right

Rick is all right
Tom is all right
We are all , all right
"the boys are alright"
surrendah
But don't give yourself away.
One of the all time great rock and roll lyrics
Where's Robin Zander?
That's what I was wondering too.
At 2:30 the guitarist lost his pick, makes a joke about playing with his mouth, and then takes a spare one off the mic stand.
Rick Nielsen is always goofing around on stage. One of the coolest guitarists to ever walk the planet
Eddie is my grandmas neighbor😇
turn up Eddie's mic....
Love Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter", so I bothered to give this a listen

Pearl Jam pummels Nirvana.
What songs Eddie Vedder can't sing?
This is not the best thing on the Internet.
But it is damn close.
Hah’ Rick comes up- blows through 60 or 70 picks’
There would not be Blink182, Green Day or The Offspring if these guys had not opened the door for them.
