I understand, but really, it's part of the formula. It's a group/person that's famous, with Daryl adding his own take on the song. I don't mind that it's not exactly what the song was, as originally recorded.
This song still makes me want to anxiously check the speedometer. It would come on the radio and by the end I would be driving way faster than was safe or reasonable.
D. seems largely unable to just 'back up' somebody... it's an ego thing. Nevertheless, this was a very strong version of a super iconic song. So I have to love it even if there are parts where I am thinking "I can't go for that..." :)
Cheap trick is one of the greatest bands ever. Saw them in SanDiego they opened up for Rod Stewart. About 2 years . At the Chula Vista Amphitheater. They killed it.
Jamming with friends in a private setting and recording a RUclips video but paying with the same intensity and energy as if it were a stadium concert. Saw Cheap Trick live in the 80s and they sound just as good now.
I especially like how Robin Zander gives Daryl Hall a little mocking glance after Hall tries to one-up everyone with his knowledge of music lingo. And I love Daryl Hall’s singing on this. He drives the vocals to a higher level of emotion.
Every-single-time I hear Cheap Trick I wonder why I wasn’t all in on them back in the 70s. Live from Budokan was huge and I loved it but somehow I didn’t obsess about them. A real missed opportunity but I’m happy to be grabbing their vinyl and spinning it now.
Love ya Daryl, but you stepped all over the Boys, who actually sing and play the song the way it’s supposed to be done. Way less Daryl on this one would have been a way better outcome.
Not sure the high harmony was needed here but still enjoyed a different spin on Surrender. Saw Chesp Trick in 1980 on the Dream Police tour. Robin still has it.
Looking forward to a couple of weeks from now when I will go see Cheap Trick for the second time, along with Heart for the second time. The first time for me seeing cheap trick was 1978 and Heart 1981. Man it's been a long time.
Daryl’s vocals seemed to lag Robins.. RZ sounds incredible. Probably the most under appreciated band ever. This song would top the charts today. Daryl by himself sounded good. They just don’t mesh together…
Cheap Trick was my first concert, 1977 at the Long Beach, arena in southern California. Nick Gilder opened up. Great concert. Wonderful time to be a teenager in southern California.
That was almost as cool as side 2 at Budokan! Hall has it correct. That's a luxury garage band space. Just like we remembered jamming in as kids only tons better so the memory seems better too! So many legends have made the pilgrimage. Bet he has a sick stable of house amps for guests.
Although I do like some Hall and Oates songs he didn’t do anything for Surrender but you guys are still fantastic . As a kid with divorced parents in the late 70’s my hard rockin black sheep uncle turned me on to you guys with your live album and have loved you ever since. Ps- love Dream Police too
I opened for Cheap Trick in Myrtle Beach at a venue called “The Afterdeck” around 1994-95. I got shit faced and passed out on the floor during their set. All of a sudden I hear the drum fill and opening riff to Surrender, and it was like a defibrillator. I jumped to my feet with a burst of energy and… well to be honest, I don’t know if I made it to the end of the song.
I've seen Hall & Oates and Cheap Trick live -- in Japan and in the US. I'm a huge fan of all of them and I love "Live From Daryl's House. Daryl and his band blend well with most of the visiting artists. But, candidly, to my ears Daryl's singing just doesn't fit well with Cheap Trick on Surrender or I Want You to Want Me. Maybe I just love the Cheap Trick sound so much as it is that I don't want to hear anyone else sing with them. Am I the only one that thinks this wasn't a particularly good vocal match up? Still, I love Daryl's musicianship and singing and this great series.
Saw Cheap Trick in Boston last weekend. They still play with a tremendous amount of raw power and enthusiasm, and sound great. I'll see them every chance I get.
How beautiful to watch this guys go at it .... amazing ... what a great day to be a musician and know that what I do makes people happy like I am right at this moment .
i have always loved cheap trick ... i am getting my little boy into them as well .... we sing auf wiedershien together sometimes .... i am a horrible parent for that
Given his age and the non stop touring Cheap Trick has done for decades upon decades Robin Zander’s voice is still incredible!
Agree. He is the Man with 100 different voices !
Hall's vocals are drowning him out though. Ain't that a shame!
@@Jamesrprattlawit is his house😂
@@JamesrprattlawI see what you did there. Lol True and funny.
@@Jamesrprattlaw
Agreed.
Not that I don’t love what Darryl does with his channel, but his vocal isn’t needed on this. Drummer kills it, Rick and Robin kill it!
I understand, but really, it's part of the formula. It's a group/person that's famous, with Daryl adding his own take on the song. I don't mind that it's not exactly what the song was, as originally recorded.
Cheap Trick are criminally underrated.
Who and how do we bring up charges???
@@deaterk The Police?
@@lonelyheroine HAAAA! I see what you did there!
Nice one!!!
Darryl’s vocal addition…OUCH! 😮
No help😊
made it worse for sure
@@jeffpagel8178 This is probably the only time there no continuity, no flow or even harmonizing.
Not awful , just mixed too hot in the mix.
@@briguy1960 No, it was awful, wasn't even in time.
This song still makes me want to anxiously check the speedometer. It would come on the radio and by the end I would be driving way faster than was safe or reasonable.
100%😂
I feel seen. 😂❤
Hall is like a fanboy singing in the audience at a Cheap Trick concert.
lol
Then you dump a beer over his head so he shuts up!!🤔😂
Very cool to see Tom Petersson playing his 8 string bass.
Try 12 😀
@@ThomasRFarmerYes, 12 string bass.
Daryl’s blue eyed soul schicht is really misplaced in this straight ahead rock anthem. Zander sounds terrific. Neilsen’s guitar tone is unmistakable.
D. seems largely unable to just 'back up' somebody... it's an ego thing. Nevertheless, this was a very strong version of a super iconic song. So I have to love it even if there are parts where I am thinking "I can't go for that..." :)
Concur. Poor harmonies…
Daryl Hall should not have sung on this period.
D should have left it alone. This is Robin’s vocal.
It may also be that he dominated the entire video so visual over presented as well. A compound effect.
Mommy’s alright…Daddy’s alright…they just seem a little weird… love it!! My kids grew up listening to Cheap Trick… singing at the top of their lungs…
Now if they could only have Bun E. back.
I know it’s his show (and his channel), but Daryl what are you doing? Throwing off the whole feel of the performance.
Miss Bun E.
Favorite Band so far to Visit Darryl’s House. 👍👍👍
Cheap trick is one of the greatest bands ever. Saw them in SanDiego they opened up for Rod Stewart. About 2 years . At the Chula Vista Amphitheater. They killed it.
Cheap Trick is one of the best live acts you will ever have a chance to see--no doubt about it! They are going on tour.....get your tickets!
Ohhhhh..
Daryl....
Come on, buddy...
Nailed it, that was embarrassingly bru-TAL 😫😏
his vocal sucked and was distracting.
Thanks to Daryl Hall and all the great talent he has on his shows, Its keeping good music alive !!
Jamming with friends in a private setting and recording a RUclips video but paying with the same intensity and energy as if it were a stadium concert. Saw Cheap Trick live in the 80s and they sound just as good now.
💯🙏😎
Robin and Daryl’s voices are still so incredibly strong!
Love the way Robin Z and Rick N harmonize....
I especially like how Robin Zander gives Daryl Hall a little mocking glance after Hall tries to one-up everyone with his knowledge of music lingo. And I love Daryl Hall’s singing on this. He drives the vocals to a higher level of emotion.
Makes me feel like I am in high school again!
Incredible how GREAT Robin sounds at 71. And, as always, Daryl and the band KILLED it!
Two of the best voices of rock/pop. Period.
Cheap Trick is an all time Top 10 band for me.
Can't believe Daryl miffed the "KISS records" line!
God damn, Cheap Trick doesn't age a lick.
You guys hit it out of the park. Holy smokes!! I’m 65 and this is the first time I could feel the hair on my arm stand up. Sensational
Love ya Daryl, but you stepped all over the Boys, who actually sing and play the song the way it’s supposed to be done. Way less Daryl on this one would have been a way better outcome.
When Daryl’s present, with his incredible voice, he should ALWAYS sing!!!
They should do live at Rick’s House!
My favorite band of all time. COME ON COME ON!!!
Just one word I can say "FANTASTIC". 😊
Not sure the high harmony was needed here but still enjoyed a different spin on Surrender. Saw Chesp Trick in 1980 on the Dream Police tour. Robin still has it.

Robin is just amazing.
Huge Cheap Trick fan, Hall and Oates, too!
Daryl’s vocals seemed to lag Robins.. RZ sounds incredible. Probably the most under appreciated band ever. This song would top the charts today. Daryl by himself sounded good. They just don’t mesh together…
Yeah, I've never liked Daryl's addition to this song.
Yeah, thinking the same. Darryl’s too heavy here
I agree. They are both good, but very different vocalists.
Cheap Trick was my first concert, 1977 at the Long Beach, arena in southern California. Nick Gilder opened up. Great concert. Wonderful time to be a teenager in southern California.
This makes me wanna run clear from NY to LA.
That was absolutely smoking hot! Thanks fellas!
That was fucking badass. Well played gentlemen.
greatness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Darryl really fked this up!
Diese Band rockt wie in den 70er. GRANDIOS

Daryl....PLEASE, PLEASE GET BILLY IDOL ON YOUR SHOW !!!!
Love Cheap Trick from Canary Islands!!!!
That was great!!! These guys deserve the Hall of Fame!
I just love Cheap Trick. So many great tracks. Original. Just... wonderful.
Cheap Trick takes me back to middle school. Oh, man! Our head banging anthem was _ I Want You to Want Me._
Great times and memories.
I don’t think I could smile any bigger! So Rad!
Loving all the guest artists who come to Daryl’s House!
Music is a flashback to all those great times growing up...Class of 79
Recalling my junior high days. From Japan 🇯🇵
Robin and Rick Rock.
Any version or cover version of surrender is epic, an all time clasdic .
Although I do like some Hall and Oates songs he didn’t do anything for Surrender but you guys are still fantastic . As a kid with divorced parents in the late 70’s my hard rockin black sheep uncle turned me on to you guys with your live album and have loved you ever since.

This episide and the Joe Walsh episode were my favs

Sounding fucken AWESOME! That tune still got all the power I could feel the very first time I heard it.
That was awesome and Darryl really freshened it up with the added vocals… Fantastic sound even all these years later 👍😵💫

I caught that same thing too. Or at least they could have lowered his volume in the mix. He was stepping over Zander's lead a bit much.
Saw Cheap Trick in Boston last weekend. They still play with a tremendous amount of raw power and enthusiasm, and sound great. I'll see them every chance I get.
Zander's voice is really strong, like nobody would guess he' over 40 now, man. Great night of playing a classic rock hit.
Saw Cheap Trick live in Syracuse back in the late 70's while in college at Oswego State. Incredible.
These guys are still sharp!!
Wow!
People have to remember Daryl oates is 78 in this and still sounds that good
A classic. Up there with the Zep, Pistols and Stones. These guys are legends.

Utterly fantastic !
Yeah they 🤘🤘 that
This band did the Beatles 40 anniversary at Hollywood’s bowl and they were awesome great show thank you loveya amen
@lindabateman-beckmann6410. Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here.
Killer!
I love that you're still doing these, Mr. Hall.
Zander still has it! And his hair, too!
Saw this band so many times….
I hope they made a cd of this,it is remarkable.Dear Lord!
Daryl. You took a great jam session and made it subpar by adding your vocals.🤑
Wow… fantastic guys! Thank you

Love Cheap Trick! Finally saw them in concert about 7-8 years ago. Did not disappoint!!!
Bless em they all sound damn good for their ages.
The BEST!!!!!!
Daryl should have been happy enough they let him play.
This will now stick in my head like "We Built This City"
Nothing could be as bad as that!😂
i have always loved cheap trick ... i am getting my little boy into them as well .... we sing auf wiedershien together sometimes .... i am a horrible parent for that
Love that version great band 👍
Thanks
I've seen Cheap Trick over the decades many times in many places, some just tripped over them while traveling. Always, Every time. Perfect.
I agree!!
Used to do this song with our band UnderKover back in the mid 80's.
Cracking song, I know there’s no Oates for Daryl now but this is a misstep
What A Great Band! WooF!!🐶🐶
awesome live performance!
