Hostiles is such an underrated movie, and I urge everyone to watch it, even if you watch this video first. It really pulls you into the tragedy of that era. It's also a cinematic masterpiece, as many of the shots are perfectly filmed. Christian Bale also, I think, did some of his best acting in this movie, It feels very real, and authentic.

It was sad. At the end of his career or more likely, like a lot of todays special operations servicemen he was used up, and while being only a captain, deemed not suitable for staff or command rank and duty. So the army sent him on a duty where they knew he was disposable to deliver his former adversary to his end along with his family to an unforeseeable future. The ending was uplifting. Peace.

As an indian(from India), I was really in shock from this movie. Until now all the westerns that I grew up watching were either cool or brutal. This was the first time I've ever realised the immense pain and the tragic suffering both the colonisers and the natives had to go through. The movie was so raw, leaves you wondering how messed up human beings can be. North America is sadly built on blood and horror(just like most of the places) Surely this has to be one of the darkests times in human history, it shows our true nature for material gain.

He had such an exceptionally well written paragraph discussing the horrors of humanity, particularly during this time but in general, and you immediately jump back to that weird shit. Truly, truly sad. Both equally wronged one another. Both equally suffered by one another. Both were equally human and both shared that horrible experience together. Neither could control the circumstances that lead them to their conflict but they both chose to feed into it. As exemplified in this video, if you would have actually watched it, neither were happy. Read this a few times, read Sourabh's comment a few times, watch the video a few times. And maybe, just maybe, you might pick up on the point this time. I sure hope you do.

the best film I've ever seen next to the LOTR....coming from me an autistic who doesn't like change or many movies and is the hardest person to impress, sure I've seen great films but films I regard at a level of pure perfection I honestly only ever thought LOTR would be in that bracket...until I saw this film..

That's pretty much the whole movie in this clip. An amazing work of art with two foreign actors going deep into the American western tragedy and finding a sense of humanity in the end.

Having been in war , I now fully understand the saying, ‘War makes for strange bedfellows.’ It is something about violence that brings out the raw humanity that is kept deep down away from the light.

Generally never been into westerns, i'm not American so they never really meant anything to me, but this film was something else. The essence it captures is so raw and moving, it reminds of the themes often explored by my favourite US poets; Longfellow, Emerson and Whitman. The real tragedy here is how under the radar and how underrated this film is.

I went to college for film and film study and I have been watching big blockbusters since I could remember, this movie hands down stays at the top of my list just because of everything you can pull from it. Emotional acting, not being able to know what's coming next in the plot, the CAST, the writing, the emotional pull, the score, the story itself. I watch thing probably once a month because it's one of if not the top movie that I can sit down and acting feel every emotion and at the end you feel a sense of warmness and satisfaction for how it ends,. Amazing movie

This movie was so intense. I guess it hit too hard to many for it to be a hit. Obviously is a tale of redemption. It shows what years of death and killing can do to a person and the power of forgiveness. It will take a while for me to watch it again.
