    I got this game at 9 years old in 2005, and I must have played at least 1,000 hours of it. I still have my PS2 copy to hopefully fire up again one day. The gameplay is so smooth, and you can feel the heart and effort the developers put into it. Now I can look back and appreciate it as the best baseball video game ever made. Legendary game.
    The mid-2000s were definitely the golden age of sports games. The last ten years have been a wasteland, by comparison. The games now have less features than the games from 15-20 years ago.

    I have played literally THOUSANDS of games of MVP Baseball 2005 as the Texas Rangers. Not even counting the hours spent on the minigames. I built the custom stadium. I loved every minute of it. Took it to law school with me. Stopped playing around 2014.

    great vid kofi thanks -- one thing since I am old so I remember - Bonds is not in the game because while he was actually in the MLBPA (for instance he appeared in Strat-o-Matic and other licensed products) he had a special clause in his contract which specified all video game deals featuring his likeness had to be cut with him individually. EA didn't want to pay an extra Bonds tax. Funnily enough -- nowadays all the former players featured in MLB The Show have to have individual agreements for their name and likeness. This means of course that Bonds could some day, theoretically, show up in a modern baseball game. It won't happen of course, but it would be something...

    The Hitter's Eye was a game changer, and I wish more games had used it. It definitely made it easier to hit guys that didn't hide the ball throughout their delivery (Hideo Nomo was super easy to read and prepare for because he didn't hide the ball and he had such a slow wind up). Me and my college roommate ran through multiple dynasty seasons on this game. Hands down the best baseball game ever made. Even the mini games to upgrade your guys in the offseason were cool and appropriately challenging.
    The mystery to find undervalued guys due to name changes was fun too. Ole Uttlesein was Cole Hamels, and we always managed to snag him cheaper than he should have gone from the Phillies.
    man, the memories are flooding back. Playing the deepest owner mode was some of the most baseball video game fun I can remember. The only "rival" before this in my mind was All Star Baseball, but that is only because it had what this game sadly didn't- same team multiplayer. Being able to sit 3-4 of us down in front of my PS2 to assign who controlled which guys in the field and at bat was fun, and I wish MVP Baseball had done that as well.

    I didn't grow up with baseball nor this game but I began watching in '15 and picked up this game back in 2020. It's awesome. It has some personality and depth that was lost in the transition from the ps2/gc era.
    It reminded me of old FIFAs which I had tons of fun in manager mode, but this game is actually still fun to play and gameplay really holds up. Everything feels responsive and explosive, which The Show nowadays doesn't. It's really a masterpiece for sports games, not just nostalgia kicking in

    Absolutely one of the best baseball games for its time, and heck it still shows how detailed and fun it was to play. Idk why but I to this day still remember every franchise mode that adding a rookie Oliver Perez on the Padres at the time would give your team a cy young candidate for 20 years haha, he was basically a cheat code prospect. He was so fun to watch on the pirates after I found about him from this game.

    Really great video on this game. I have seen various videos that take a documentary approach but it was really refreshing to see your love for the game come through. Also you showed so much more than most videos, stuff I had forgotten. This was such a fun game to run a franchise through, it came out my freshman year of college and a group of us played the hell out of some of those mini games. Fun times, and of course as you stated online was starting to become a thing too. Great video, great channel!
    Oh and I think Boone went so early because that was the season he had like 140 RBI and won a Gold Glove. Ichiro is the pick as you stated but I think Boone had that crazy season and had a high rating. I'll stop now, sorry for the novel, lol.

    one minor detail i really loved about this game is how they let you change individual pitches' trajectory, so some guys could throw sliders with more vertical drop and some threw them with more left to right motion. made each pitcher more unique. wish newer baseball games would implement some ability to change pitch shape like that

    Ironically, today this came up in my suggested viewing and I just said to my wife (who was my girlfriend in 2005) I told her I dorked out at work this past week and listened to the MVP Baseball playlist on Ytube. She has it burned in her brain just like me for listening to them over and over. Glad you covered the songs at the beginning of the video. She also quotes the announcers occasionally when we watch baseball games. "You can't hit the ball without swinging the bat meat!" The college games aren't bad but the soundtracks don't exist on them like this game.

  • @dogshake
    @dogshake 19 дней назад

    I started emulating on my PC specifically to play MVP bb 2005. This is one of the cases where something is just legitimately perfect. You don’t have to learn how to play this game, the systems used to emulate baseball are so natural feeling that your brain just goes “oh yeah that makes sense”. Another cool thing is how many unique voice lines there are. As a white Sox fan, the first thing I did in this game was play against the cubs and bean every hitter. There’s unique voice lines going all the way until you hit like your eighth batter. This is in contrast to today where there might be 2-3 on repeat. Love this game, and love your stuff Kofie.

      @@DIAC1987 That’s right. I forgot that! That’s pettiness to the extreme. 🤣
      Let’s hope EA finally loses Madden at some point. That game has been insultingly low-effort for at least 10 years now. No mainstream sports games are innovative anymore, and the indie sports games don’t have the licenses or resources to compete.

      There were a lot more options, NFL Gameday, Higheat baseball, NFL Fever, and Sony's NBA game.
