      My exact reaction after meeting Red on Mt.Silver for the 1st time on When I played HeartGold back when I was 12(now 24). While I was having a hard time trying to reach the peak of Mt.Silver, I was speculating what kind of Legendary Pokemon was on top.
      But when I reached the peak and saw Red's back, I was frozen on the spot, I was like "Heyyy wait a minute, Dont tell me, Dont tell me thats Me!? I mean its Red, BUT Thats Me from FireRed I played when I wad 6! Imma walk up and talk to this guy to confirm it"
      ". . . . . " *Battle starts*

      It especially hit home in gen 7, I didn't start in gen 1, Silver and Crystal my 1st games, but I'm still seeing a mirror, looking at an older Red, and well I too have become older, as 2 decades have gone by, as I've challenged many leagues, many champions, even Red a few times, in gen 2, the 2 remakes HGSS, then the PWT the gathering of the strongest champions to determine the champion among champions. He's always there when the franchise soft resets, preps for the next generation of fans, and definitely felt it in gen 7. It's like seeing an old friend, and it's always a pleasure to high five, or wrestle with them.

    The reason Red is alone on Mt. Silver is probably an Occam's razor answer. He's bored and still adventuring and Mt. Silver is the only area between Johto and Kanto that isn't braindead easy at his level. When you beat him, Red realizes that other trainers in the world can still challenge him, so he continues his adventure elsewhere in search of them. This is why he appears as a boss in some end game challenges like the champion's world tournament and the battle tree. He remains silent in the games as a trope, but he presumably can function just fine considering he still has friends like Blue and can travel between regions without issue.

      As well as BW2 in the PWT, basically a game version of that tournament recently in the anime... about a decade ago lol. In the champion bracket, the final tournament, to see who is the champion among champions... also ironically my set up back then was similar to Ash's, well after I got steamrolled by Wallace in the finals 1st attempt. 2nd attempt was Steven, then Cynthia with a climatic battle between my Charizard her Garchomp, then similarly my Charizard from FR vs Red's in the finals were our last Pokemon, mine just barely edging out the win. Very even match, don't remember my full team, just my Emerald Sceptile, and B1 Hydreigon, and that it was a back and forth, he took 1 out I took 1 out until it came down to Charizard vs Charizard.
      Which is why when gen 5 gets its turn for remakes, they don't. They keep their promise of doing BW3 sequels, that way the PWT can not only stay but get updated with newer trainers from gens 6-10 (assuming it's after gen 10 given the company's patterns). Just emulate BW1 and 2 and put them on the eshop for newer players, like gen 1 and 2 got on eshop, then make a BW3 and Legends Kyurem the "remakes" of gen 5, given how bad BDSP was, and that I don't see any remake reaching the levels oras did that game was so beautiful, just don't bother with actual remakes, fans would prefer sequels anyways. Because if they remake gen 5... BW2 will get nothing and that means a lot of good things passed on, 1 of which is the PWT.

    • @IgnatiusBlaze4
      @IgnatiusBlaze4 Год назад +1

      Also yes, in fact both gen 7 games, SM and USUM. Also... yesish? In masters they are using his 14 year old sprite that he had in gen 2 games (not saying much given BW2 didn't age him either unlike gen 7 where he's late 20s early 30s), but also given that Ethan/Gold doesn't seem to know him, still seems in middle of his journey, and Red seems undefeated still, I'd say that is still Johto 14 year old Red.

    • @IgnatiusBlaze4
      @IgnatiusBlaze4 Год назад +1

      @@nilda5065
      I mean he does, but that's the same sprite from HGSS, at which point he is 14. He started his journey in Kanto at age 11, then Johto games take place exactly 3 years later. He would be older by BW2, 18 is rough, but yes good guess that's roughly what fans have determined his age by then. However they did just decide to reuse the existing sprites from all the gen 4 games, which is why no one looks older, and despite the rocket grunt that stole the generator part during the Johto events, now has a kid and lives in Iccirus City. Being if I recall a preschooler sprite? The kid would have to be 4-5 years old, and being generous assuming he settles down immediately after giving the part back in Cerulean, means BW take place about 4-5 years after gen 2 and 4 games (as their events are simultaneous, why the Red Gyarados is on a live news feed from Johto in yours and Barry's houses, and why they go to Lake Verity) bare minimum. Meaning yes Red is about 18-20 years old. However yes they did just decide to reuse his HGSS sprite, unless they were actually in base game like Cynthia or Caitlin, no other older characters got updated sprites.
      Same happens in SM and USUM, why Wally doesn't seem older, despite in gen 3 he is about 10 years old, at that point he'd be almost as old as Red (since gen 3 and 1's events happen at the same time, he'd be 1 year younger than Red, Blue, and Leaf/Green), but they reused his ORAS sprite. However to build hype yeah they did make new sprites for Blue and Red, of which given the rough timeline, and their appearance, they're either late 20s or early 30s by then.

    • @IgnatiusBlaze4
      @IgnatiusBlaze4 Год назад +1

      @@nilda5065
      Oh I wasn't thinking about Masters apologies, that being said... I mean parallel worlds and timelines exist, and he is looking more like his 14 year old self in Masters, his 1st alt with Charizard looking like his Johto design, maybe a bit older, so 15-16. It's why we can have Hilbert and Hilda who should also be in their late 20s being in their 15 appearances, despite Cheren and Bianca obviously being their 2 year older BW2 alts. He was certainly very experienced by Johto, and his teams in BW2, and even his adult self in SM/USUM are the same. Well at least since his Johto HGSS appearance, as in GSC he has Espeon and no Lapras. I simply say that because Blue himself is also unchanged from his Johto appearance as a gym leader. I suppose he might be a bit older, but personally feel they did pull from his Johto HGSS alt. He was regarded as a legend, and a hero due to his journey through Kanto, stopping Team Rocket, becoming Champion, and seeming a cut above the rest. Ethan also doesn't appear to recognize him, so it's possible Red is still the undefeated strongest trainer in the world, that he was prior to Ethan setting out on his journey in gen 2.

The message interpretation of seeing Red as our stepping stone for adulthood and taking a stand for our own name, creating our own legend until a tranquil end not knowing what else you seek is that of acknowledgement of weakness. Vulnerability that humanity has no choice but to concede to in the face of hardship. An end everyone will have to face eventually through age. This video spoke to me like a wake up message to try to move forward despite the triumphs ahead to find an end that I can be satisfied in. Thank you, you fellow cultured degenerate Nux. But there is a reason why Red is up there though? In the manga, Red is trying to become a gym leader, and he feels he can't because he's damaged due to being frozen. Than, someone tells him about the hot springs on Mt. Silver said to heal those conditions. So he climbs the mountain, and he gets better. Red's journey continues past this in the manga, concluding in the Emerald manga where all Pokedex holders have a tournament in the end

Unfortunately, every Red is in a new, separate timeline. For instance, Red's starter in Adventures was Bulbasaur. In Origins, Red's starter is Charmander. Origins, Adventures, and the main series timeline are entirely separate continuities. Even Masters is separate from the main game timeline

    So basically Red not only introduced us to the Pokémon series (besides the show) but showed our kid selves how enchanting the world of Pokémon is. The good, the bad, and the ugly of the world that we are invited to. After we beat the game, he passes his story on to other generations (both in game generations and real life generations) through other games. But regardless of however many games come out, Red's story and character was the first to impact our lives. To let us live as a main character, and to show us that we can shape our own legacy.

    I personally believe Red is Silent because he has nothing left to say, you (Gold) defeated Team Rocket yourself as well, You've done the same he has, he has nothing to tell you and you have nothing to tell him either. Gold and Red haven't met before, but they have so much in common no words need to be said. The battle between the two isn't to see who is stronger. It's to introduce themselves to each other. The Pokemon universe always says that a Trainer and their pokemon have a lot in common, and then the way your Pokemon fight shows a lot about who you are as a trainer.
    Red and Gold have a lot in common as characters, Gold is Just younger and a bit more confused probably. While Red has had more time to process everything and grow wiser from it. Gold is still probably lost on what to do next.
    I also think the fact Red is on the mountain where it appears to be snowy is symbolic for Red trying to say it's okay to rest and chill out now. Both have witnessed some Traumatizing events despite being just children. And coming from someone who has not only gone through my own Trauma, but also trying to help others recover from theirs, I would probably do the same as Red, he does a Pokemon Battle, for fun, not to prove who is better, and not to prove who's worse. Just for fun. It's alright to relax, it's okay to calm down. And Honestly I think that's a wholesome end. Red telling the player and Gold through no words that he's alright, he's recovered.
    Alternatively, if we wish to go a less wholesome and more angst route, then we could say that he's not recovered from Being sick, and he can't speak because of Laryngitis catching up to him lol.

    I like to think that Red went up there because he was unbeatable, because there was nothing more for him, only for this random kid from a different region, with pokemon he may not have even seen, to come and show him that there is a higher stage. He sees this kid who is what he once was, filled with hope and determination to become the best, and now that they are, Red sees that there is more to do, more to see, and more to strive for, if not for himself, then for this kid who has reached a point that has driven him so low, even as he stands on top of the world. Now he strives again to become better, to once more challenge the kid who beat him, and those like them who seek the highest stage, only to suffer when there is nothing more to gain... Holy sh**. Red is the player character who goes on to save other player characters from the emptyness of being abandoned by the player, by showing them a new height to strive towards, and showing the player that even when they have to give up their old games and move on, that their characters, their pokemon, still live on, in their hearts, and when gamefreak decides that they should make a cameo... Kinda ruined the moment with that last part, didn't I? XD He could also be doing it to spite the player and defeat them in their new games that they abandoned their previous characters for. And, wow, this comment went in directions I never expected. I hope someone actually bothers reading it, and maybe even appreciate the nonsense that just went through my brain. Sorry, not sorry. My headcanon has always been that Red is just like you the player, after you’ve completed everything you can or feel like you can accomplish what do you do when you beat a game. You go to the place that was the biggest impact on your adventure and then you sign off and wait for the next challenge. Idk if anyone else does this but that’s what I do, in Elden Ring I’m in the Haligtree by a blossom, in Pokémon Platinum I’m in Snowpoint City’s Regigigas Temple, Skyrim I’m in Solitude looking out towards the bay, and so many more adventures capped off in places where I wanted to start my next adventure or remember the one I went on. Soz for the cringe or sappiness, thanks for the video Nux, I appreciated watching it.

    I have autism. I grew up on Gen 1 original Blue version, all the sequels always seemed strange so I never played them. I made a pokemon team stronger than anything, capable of wordlessly removing any and all that challenged me because nobody was relatable. I left that character logged out in the mewtwo cave.
    Never thought of it as a character.
    Nux. This video resonated really hard. Thank you

    This video was amazing. I really like your interpretation of Red and how you detailed what he means to you.
    However, I would like to talk about the whole "Red Ash comparison" thing. To me I feel like these two embody 2 different ideals. Red embodies the dream of being the best. Beating all the odds, taming the most ferocious beasts, completing every challenge with ease. Ash on the other hand represents the reality of trying to be the best. You're not gonna win everytime or even most times, there's so many people in this world that are probably better than you. But you have the perseverance to keep pushing no matter what what happens. I'm not saying one is better. I just simply find a lot of merit in both.

    I didn't pay red, blue, or green much when they came out, so my first full game was gold. I went through the game and beat the elite 4 and my rival thinking I beat the game, but then a whole new area is unlocked, so I do the other 8 gyms and explore the mountain that unlocks. I found red at the top, and he proceeds to kick my ass like 10 times before I am finally able to beat him. Between the fact that he says nothing and the awesome boss theme, he cemented himself as my favorite Pokémon character.

    Hey nux. Love your videos man. They always make me smile and put me in a good mood. I also love your analysis of red as a character. Coming from someone who played pokemon red as his first game this really touched my heart. But, there is one thing you didn't mention that I don't know if you are aware of. In pokemon sun/moon, once you finish the main story and approach the battle tree, you are greeted by blue and red. There is a little chatter before you battle red and then they leave. It has been a while so this next statement could be completely wrong, but apparently blue pulled red away from mount silver and now they travel the world together catching all of the pokemon from the different regions.

    Ok, so basically, Red is Mihawk but instead of sailing around looking for opponents, he just stands on top of a mountain, waiting for his opponents to come to him. I can get behind this
    I also like the "Red is a ghost" theory
    Now, here's my take: Red represents our entire journey through pokemon, and the Red on Mt Silver represents us when we've finally moved on from Pokemon.
    Red is the save file of the last Pokemon game we played, where we became the strongest and did everything there was to do. Where we finally stopped playing and moved on in life.
    Mt Silver Red to me represents the end of our experience with Pokemon and our final playthrough, a playable character on a save file we never touch again.
    A character with no more goals or ambitions.
    And because of that, Gold's battle serves as the next generation of Pokemon fans surpassing the previous one, coming up with more advanced strategies than we did and using newer, stronger pokemon than we had, a true passing of the torch moment. And when those fans finally drop Pokemon, they will become the new "Red", waiting for the next gen to surpass them and become the new "Gold"

    ... people forget Ash had won a league prior to his most recent and epic achievement... people forget the orange Islands... so sad. Do agree though, Ash is similar, but also the opposite of Red in terms of how skilled they are, like 50/50 is generous for Ash, while Red canonically only loses once assuming Gold/Ethan beats him on Mt Silver, or you don't face Red in the post game content of BW2 and gen 7, the PWT and the Battle Tree respectively. Leon undefeated? pleaaase, he's nothing compared to Red or Cynthia, and with the DLC we know Leon lost many times early on in his journey.
    Red and Ash are both different types of Heroes, and a good representation would be... Hercules vs King Arthur, a person who was born awesome and you look up to, vs one who overcomes many trials in spite of his upbringing to become a Hero, a Superman vs Captain America, Goku vs Luffy/Naruto for an anime perspective. The hero you want to be vs the hero you relate to, big guy vs little guy, big dog vs underdog. Difference though is Red is still only human unlike his aforementioned comparisons, he's still an 11 year old kid in gen 1 overcoming the mafia, then 14 in gen 2, especially when looking at Nux's comparison's, this is why in spite of being the born hero Red is still someone you see, not ignore like Superman or Goku because heh please. He's achievable, someone you can rise to become unlike other starter heroes, because he's still human just like you, you can become him unlike Hercules, Superman, or Goku that are Gods and aliens.

    I get some major feels here, Nux. I loved the manga, and I loved the video games. What I loved most of all, though, was playing through Pokemon Blue and Red, getting stuck, and going to Silver version, beating the league countless times, earning all the badge, catching the legends, and scaling mount silver. Scaling.... the final plateau for what was the most terrifying, glorious, and hard fought battle of my single-digit childhood.
    *PKMN Trainer Red want's to battle!*
    It was confusing at first, since I had gone to the house in Viridian and faced off against my doppleganger with the threee starters, but once I thought back to it and played Red and Blue a bit more, and once I got another year older, I realized that I wasn't looking at just some random boss npc. I was looking at the past character I played in the previous game. I was looking at me. I was looking at... what should have been me... A powerful trainer, who stands above the rest, that has become the number one champion and is ready to take on any challenger who comes our way. It was wild.. and it was scary. I had only just gotten over the fact I had beaten the League just a week or two prior to this, catching a level 70 Ho-Oh because I played Silver version. It truly was surreal, and it drove me wild to get stronger and stronger, until I actually beat him, and became number one. Soul Silver rolls around, and I know what I gotta do. I aim for that trainer who I wanted to be since I was a kid, and take victory. Also, how I honestly see Red just disappearing, I see it as something crazy, but he could have just used an escape rope or something, or maybe it was a bit of a time skip after the battle, and he just walks off screen before flying/running back to the Pokemon Center, since when you lose, you need to heal your team. Nothign crazier than that.
    ...
    ...
    ...
    However... i do like the concept of he is either a ghost or he just walks away, after realizing that he isn't the best, and there is always, and I do mean ALWAYS, some stronger. Gotta be the very best like no one ever was, right? Then he's gotta beat me too.
    i'm sorry for the ramble, but I just had to get this out. Nicely done, Nuxtaku. Really nice.

    There's a few hand full of experiences throughout Pokemon history that really define the us the player, and the series as a whole. Fighting Arcues, blasting into space to stop Dexoys, but of course the battle at the top of Mt. Sliver against Red. Not just because it's supposed to be you from the last game, but because Red as a character is the actual best there ever was. As kid just getting to Mt. Sliver is hard enough, then you got to the top and you had no idea he was there, it's an iconic moment in the series. Glad Nux is talking about the manga too, so much better than the show.

    ... yeah, there at the ending... I feel like Red, and maybe many of us do, this world we group of loving, yet we've seen the darker sides, but in game and... irl. In game, over the many generations you fight countless evils, from the mafia, to an evil king, to Hitler, to an alien Queen, to actual gods, while irl, we've seen how the company has changed, evolved for better or worse whatever you may believe, and we realize this isn't the same world we grew up loving, it's... for the newer fans, the ones that can still appreciate the worlds that are made. I've felt this since Pokemon moved to the Switch, feeling like something isn't right, that the games just aren't hitting home, whether its too easy, favoritism with certain types of fans, the greed of DLC and laziness of copy paste DP but worse BDSP, or unfinished games, Legends Arceus was the only one I've felt so far that kind of recaptured what I felt growing up, but it also faces many of those issues. I've wondered am I too old? Is it the company?... is it me? Am I done? Is this Pokemon game the last I'll play, will I make it to gen 5's remakes my favorite gen next to gen 2 (preferably and hoping for BW3, just rerelease BW1 and 2 on eshop virtual console like gen 1 and 2 got on 3ds, and then a Legends Kyurem prequel, that's how I think it should be handled and what I'd prefer, no remake I think will meet the standards of oras, and BDSP was such a disappointment)?... should I even bother getting the next gen console by Nintendo, Switch 2 or whatever they may call it? It's not just Pokemon but all their franchises that I love, I know people loved BotW... but technically that started on Wii U, and yeah it was good but still not my favorite. Meanwhile every other Nintendo console is trying to recapture the flame that BotW started, making all their franchises open world or semi open world.
    I just don't know anymore, and Pokemon, was one of the remaining driving forces for being staying a Nintendo fan, them and Fire Emblem but... is this the end? I never thought I'd outgrow Nintendo, but maybe I finally have... is this how Red felt, after seeing what the world had to offer beyond Kanto? What Kanto had to offer in its own right from the mafia, the harsh and evil experimentations and creations of humanity, from Mewtwo to fossils, Porygon to Genesect. Did he give up on humanity? Is he at peace and accepting of humanity, meditating, heck maybe both, much like many legendary Pokemon, including the beast trio from the same game you face Red, gen 2, or gen 5's sword trio that gave up on humanity... because Red in his own right, is a legendary human.
    Any possible answers and questions, of which we may never know the answers of. Do we relate to him, or is he something even further beyond our understandings... who can say.
