UPDATE: Ecoflow FAILED to mention the two ice size settings in the user manual! Mine was set on "small". Large takes 18 minutes. ruclips.net/user/shorts5DXurzWvUA0?feature=share
Looking forward to the Wave 2 review
I bought one along with a River 2 pro and a 100w solar panel. This is so I can keep meats and cheese dry from ice cubes and keep my drinks in a separate cooler. I'm camping 6 days at a time and this will keep my bacon and eggs amazin!
Hi Tom. I just wanted to update your site after camping for six days and five nights using this EcoFlow fridge and ice maker. This was tent camping. It was fantastic. I didn't use the dual fridge/freezer separation slide-in, just the entire interior as a fridge set to 34 degrees. Used the ice maker twice daily. Four of the six days were clear skies, two completely overcast. I was using an EcoFlow bifacial 220 solar panel to keep it charged during the day. I was also using my Montek 1000 during the trip. Two of the items I purchased were due to your channel. Thanks.
There are two sizes of ice cubes you can select. The first batch was large cubes, the following ones you selected small cubes.
Read the manual 😉
My early release manual at the time did not have this information. Watch my follow up.
Nice. Would be perfect for the small amounts of ice that I would need. I am impressed with what EcoFlow has come out with in the last year. I am liking their products more and more. Thanks for another great review, Tom.🖤
I made a full comment here, but Eco Flow has major quality issues and their customers are their beta testers even tho you paid full price. Just an FYI since on paper they look great.
@@allaboutroofing2 I do agree. I purchased a Bluetti AC200P, not quite a true first generation product after doing lots of research and finding the HoboTech YT channel and the facebook group. Doing my due diligence as a consumer, Bluetti is a company from whom I would consider making a purchase of a first generation product. I cannot say the same about investing in the purchase of a first generation EcoFlow product, due to some of the same reasons you cited. However, as they introduce their second generation production lines, EcoFlow is correcting many of the major deficiencies of the original offering. I absolutely agree that the consumer who buys in with a purchase of several hundred to a few thousand dollars should not be the beta testers; their approach is neither the first nor the worst of the greed motivated business models out there, a sad indictment of the age in which we live.
Thanks for taking the time to make a valid critique of my comment. 😎 Much appreciated. Hoping you have an awesome week ahead!!🖤
Thanks for the great review!
I considered this, but already have 5 compressor fridges. I had been making ice with a $99 ALDI unit. It would trip a Morningstar PS300 unit, but ran fine with a 600W Xantrex PS unit. So, I recently bought a BougeRV DC ice-maker, and it is very quiet. Draws 70w~80w while running, and like the ALDI, makes 9 cubes in 8 min (large size). It is lighter and smaller than the ALDI unit, so I am happy with it.
We.just spent 7 days in 95+ temps in a tent in Florida with this unit. We hooked it into the 220W solar panel just to test the usage, even though we had shore power. Worked like a charm. We almost continuously made ice during various parts of the days. The unit is a little heavy and unwieldy when moving it around and I'm not really sure how the wheels are going to help with this. They (wheels) were on back order or I would have gotten them, but have ordered them now. Also, the DC power cord for your car is SHORT for anyone who doesn't have a dedicated DC power outlet in their trunk or cargo area! I can't find anywhere on their site together a longer cord and no one answers their phone number.
I'm wondering what happens if you dont empty the ice out of the basket between each cycle. As an experiment try just lifting the basket to break the ice loose but leave the ice in the basket while the next batch freezes do that 3 or 4 times until the water level drops down too far and see how much ice you get.
Thank you, been waiting for your take on this.
Of all the reviews I’ve seen on this fridge this is the one I wanted to see. Go hobo get busy. 👍🏽👀
putting water in the refrigerator and freezing it is always going to take a ton of energy. Energy use depends on what the fridge contains and what temp you start at. It takes 354 Joules (watt-sec) per gram to freeze water at 0C, starting at 20C (68F). That’s 97 watt hours (0.097 KwH) per liter. For energy testing you want to cool everything to its final temperature first, and then record the energy use over some period, like 24 hours.
Thanks for the excellent review! One thing I would caution about these battery powered refrigerators is to be aware that if the battery itself is not cooled by a fan it would probably overheat if left out in ambient air on a hot day even if it’s in the shade. That happened to me with the AcoPower Lion Cooler. A nice test would be to see how the cooler performs when the fridge is left out in the heat (in the shade or enclosed in a vehicle out of direct sunlight).
You left it in the sun. A lithium battery will operate just fine in hot weather up to 131 F or 55 C.
@@allaboutroofing2 In our case we left the fridge/cooler in the car in the trunk on a 90 degree day (low humidity). It was in the car for no more than an hour and we were using it to transport apple juice and pies. Arrived home to find the battery overheated. It was not left in direct sunlight, although temperatures in a car trunk will be higher on a hot day than outside ambient air.
Oh No!!!!
Don't say? This could of saved us from buying electric cars.
@@frankburdodrums8984 Waiting for hydrogen to be the next fuel source for internal combustion and fuel cells.
@genuinetuffguy1854 That's what they recently discovered The Great Pyramid in Egypt was made for. Turns out they poured hydrochloric acid down on side and silver nitrate down the other. Who knew, Right?
What is the max amount of EcoFlow solar EcoFlow panels can you connect?
I work on commercial refrigeration equipment, and coolers are normally set to 34°
The water you poured into the ice maker the first time looked chilled to me. That could be why the ice was thicker the first time.
It was room temperature. The ice issue is resolved by the firmware update.
@@HOBOTECH I was just about to acquire about what the update was for as I notice one was available in the app while you were showing it off.
Well Damn, I wish you had dropped this last Thursday, I would have gotten it with the battery. Got my delivered Saturday afternoon and was going to try it out this evening. So now I'll have to wait to buy the battery, as they haven't offer it for sale yet. As ecoflow doesn't mention it needs the battery to make ice in 12 volt camping.
Well thanks for enlightening about that downfall. I'll let you know how it works out in our Arizona heat with and without the battery when I can get a battery.
You have a good one Hobo and Laters
I have this fridge and only had thing I can say about it is that when off roaring it alerts to tilting and feels each time it thinks it is out of horizontal limits. Does not make the fridge stop working just a annoying chime. Very good in every other aspect.
Does the compressor in yours make a tapping sound while off road or on bumpy roads? I just got/used mine for the first time and was not sure whether the noise was normal or if I should try to contact Ecoflow.
@@robertgolden1580 I do hear the taping. I think it is the rubber mounted compressor taping the side of the housing. I figured out how to turn the chime off so that helped.
@@fscottgray9784 thanks for the info!
I just purchased the iceco APL 55 after watching your review, i was kind of undecided between the new ecoflow and iceco , but after your review on the iceco it was a done deal.
For me the iceco is cheaper, better built, more efficient, and you know what compressor you are getting.
I got the iceco APL 55 as well, great unit, only one interior light went out, otherwise a great product.
Hello Professor
I bought one , it works great. I like making a vat of ice mix it in a container with water , add salt , stir for 1 minute, and add 6 bottles of beer. Add more salt & stir, till beer is cold 33*F. Drink
Would love to live next door to you. Your knowledge, investigative tenacity and thoroughness in your videos are OUTSTANDING. A neighbor like you would be a treasure. Sell your address to the highest bider for cash only. On the other hand don't as you would have tents pitched everywhere.
Keep up the good work.
10:30 There is apparently a power draw issue if the battery is not installed, i forget who noticed this and found the same thing that it used less power if the battery was installed.
Hopefully this is a bug that can be patched out, or maybe its part of the design, possibly a DC booster of some kind that is always running if the battery isnt available to act as a smoothing capacitor or some other reason i cant think of at the moment.
Like you were say about iceco alp58
I love my Eco Flow River power station - incredibly useful even in my apartment!
i like that you can make ice and then drain the cold water into a glass with the ice
As usual, another fantastic professional review.
Hobotech Unrelated ? here... Instead of using the 12V "ciggerette" plug for a refrigerator can I use the barrel connecter? Im having uses with mine staying connected.
EcoFlow certainly meets fridge needs. I'm interested in the lawn mower.
Why is no reviewer making a big deal about the max 240 watt solar input? Alllll other battery refrigerators I've found all only accept a MAX of 100 watt solar input. I just returned my rough country battery refrigerator because the 100 watt solar input could NOT keep up with the fridge. It would still die daily. Let alone the larger battery than all others, but the soon to be released anker (which is also limited to 100 watt solar max), this unit is a game changer off grid, camping, Lake days etc. The larger battery with 240 watt max solar input is freaking awesome
Having that ice maker on the side frees up a lot of fridge room for people that want cold drinks and have cups
11:13 upper '60s LOL why would you even need a cooler?
I love to tell people about the Coleman extreme, I live in South Florida drive a black pickup truck. I can put ice in that thing in the back of the pickup truck in direct Florida sunlight in the summertime. It'll keep the ice for 5 days
Can use an air mattress pump to blow out the compartment
32 is a bit low for a fridge setting imo. Standard temp in full sized refrigerators is 36 or 37. Ibhave the bouge rv 30qt and keep it at 38 or 39 any lower and i can get drinks freezing etc at least in my use case
I got my Glacier today, and I had to get Xfinity to "split" my wifi so I had a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz... but aside from that, this s$!t runs on my [regular] River PRO... with ice maker... and NO EXTRA battery and no problems so far.
Not sure who needed to hear that, but I hope I helped.
P.S. love your videos, sir.
I did 😊 thank you!
You're my go too for tech bro. We can remove all other tech reviewers from the tube
....you just review all tech and we good lmao thanks man for your content
I'm pretty certain they designed the ice maker to operate with the cooler already down the temp. Try running the cooler at operating temp with the new firmware to see if the ice is vastly improved. I think it will be.
I'm curios how good would the ice would be if you let the ice cycle run twice instead of releasing it
looked like the lid wasnt latched all the way when you did the overnight water test...
I triple check the lid for each test.
Can't find one video showing the actual noise. Mines makes a metal vibrating noise. Its very loud and i was tols tbis is normal
Super cool frig that makes clinkies!! Sweet. Thanks for sharing
Excellent review. I do enjoy watching.
Im curious if its practical to have a very small ice maker that can make ice for a ice chest. Im in a minivan thats pretty small. Id like to make ice for personal consumption and a collapseable insulated bag.
Thanks Hobo!
Have you done a 6-12 month update for this yet Hobo???
cleaning with vinegar, make 2 or 3 batches, drain refill drain. clean
Definitely an oversight they dont have a direct dc battery connection for their battery products
I’m not sure I understand can you explain what the advantage would be and what the connection would look like
Love a workable useful icemaker powered by Sun. The tech will only improve, good stuff. thanks
I wonder if it's selectable ice timer
See my follow up video?
NMC is expected due to weight also that thing weighs enough without adding lfp to it.
is there any stores that sell this stuff
What the best low weight fridge/freezer combo today (May 2024). High quality. Low price. No ice maker. 30 quart
Damn. Jason and Jen need this
Great review, Tom. I already bought a fridge/freezer unit so I guess I'll stick with the ice cube trays I got that fit in the small compartment. Lol.
This looks truly innovative. Reliability? Product support? Also, there are lots of reviews for this and typically that means the company is paying in someway.
Why not plug a 100w pd into a delta 2 i bet it's more efficient than the 12v port
I believe there are two settings for ice thickness on that
The ice setting was NOT in the manual or app!
The Glacier is pretty darn impressive. Thank you! ODIN !!! THOR !!!
so what do with your car alternator?
Isn’t this thing pretty heavy to carry around? I got a 2018 Mazda MX-5 and don’t think this thing would fit inside it.
I found that using cold water for making ice let's it make the cubes larger.
Great review. Question for you - if I don't care about ice, can I run this with a Delta 2? Also want to let you know that Ecoflow is selling these for $599, free shipping, about $55 tax.
Very nice one question is the Freezer deep enough to accommodate a standing bottle of Vodka?
if it all could be connected as one whole unit, id totally go with eco flow for everything for my camper.
Can you remove the side handles by chance? My fridge 'cabinet' in my truck setup is basically the exact dimensions of the unit without the side handles. Thanks!
Didn't I mention the handles?
Aren't the device being in eco mode affects the ice making?
Just bought one few days ago it may be 2 weeks before I get it
could you run the make ice cycle, remove ice option, but leave the ice in place, and run a second ice cycle to make them thicker?
Tried it. Doesn't make them bigger. Watch my new video from this morning.
So it would be better to make ice in a silicon mold in the main freezer if you need to make a lot of thick ice?
ruclips.net/user/shorts5DXurzWvUA0?feature=share
Does the thickness of the walls for the ice make that much of a difference when they are hollow? Drop 'em in your drink(s) they're gonna melt regardless. If the ice maker part bugs you then maybe use it to make ice cold in 12 minutes water to "pee" into your cups?
See my follow up short.
Hello, If you have it connected to your vehicles 12v soclet. Could you have it run off the 12v car socket when driving, and then when that turns off, continue running it through the night on the fridges battery?
Would it always be connected to bluetooth on the smartphone so you could mo itir the battery?
Yep thats the point of the battery.
@HOBOTECH thanks for the reply. You wouldn't know what the Bluetooth range would be from smartphone to the fridge?
Wow - the ice maker made me curious. But as you said, I makers are power hungry, and *this one seems no exception* to me. The tiny ice cubes look like 30Wh - to make them compare to ice cubes from the larger consumer AC ice makers, the power meter would probably show 50+Wh. And the the larger consumer ice makers with AC-power don't seem less efficient. They may use 200W?, but with output at least 4 times/hour which would mean 50Wh/production run. Neat idea, but not for me. Hard to keep the ice maker clean. I do like the dual zone, however. But at this point I would opt for a well known (for durability) Engel (like the MR-040). Pair this with 18V power-tool batteries (no need for DCDC-conversion, box will use the 16-20V range from those batteries) and a deep discharge protection, and you have a pretty solid and flexible setup - stationary or battery-portable.
For those curious: A 18V 6Ah battery will run up to 12 hours in a cold environment, but in a hot car parked in the summer-sun, one battery will hardly last for 2 hours (ass refereed to fridge temps, not deep-freeze temps).
Hey Professor. Can you review the bodega p15?
As usual... outstanding review. 😊
Id prefer more interior space for food. If it has a freezer section, it can make ice in a tray.
I'm wondering if you upping the temp setting on the fridge/freezer impacted the ice production. It is odd that the first batch came out better.
EXCELLENT video do you think you can make a comparison video of the ecoflow glacier ve the bluetti multicooler???Thanks
If the Bluetti doesn't make ice, they can't be compared.
@@HOBOTECH It does make ice continuously !!!
I love my Eco Flow River Pro and use it all the time! This absolutely needs a DC connection into the fridge!! I will buy a different DC fridge cooler. I don't need an ice maker or freezer.
So how many hour can use with that battery?
I think you still had the freezer section set higher while making the thin ice cubes... I wonder if the freezer was set to 0° if the ice quality would have been impacted.
Can you charge the battery from the 100w power delivery port while it is in use in the fridge? How does the bi-directional port know if its charging or being charged?
Yes you can but the solar/12v input is then disabled.
how much ??
It would be good for going to the beach for the day or family reunion having the built in battery
How many lights were on that battery? Tom, I can't believe that you missed that opportunity.
maybe it has to do with the fact that the temps were turned up?
I know this product is slightly out of your wheel house but would you consider reviewing the Ryobi 18V ONE+ 24Q HYBRID POWER COOLER?
Half the space is used up to hold the batteries. Not worth reviewing. Get an Iceco.
Using the freezer mode on any of these 12v fridges really increases the energy usage.

One more comment, the wheels and handle are not included with the refrigerator. They are a $99 add-on.

Review yet. I really wanna know the wattage use etc been waiting fr so long
Review will be out on the 15th when it goes on sale.
Cant wait till you review the Bluetti Multicooler to compare to these. I’m interested if using the ice machine, does either cooler shutoff?
There isn't a comparison. The ecoflow is a large dual zone that makes ice.
@@HOBOTECH The Multicooler is larger at 50 Qt capacity and also has a continuous ice machine? Hows that no comparison?
I didn't realize it made ice. I didn't go to CES but a RUclipsr friend told me it was really small inside and single zone. I'll get one soon to review.
@@HOBOTECH Cant wait, no one goes under the hood and tech test these things like you do!
I’ll stick to my aco lion cooler. The batteries can be plugged into a solar panel directly. No cords ever needed.

Super cool..!...where is Odin, long time no see...
Did you not see the Hobocop video?
@@HOBOTECH no...will do..
Try turning off wi-fi, might make a difference with power consumption.
This is not for me. The "Look Maw, it makes ice!" factor doesn't blind me to the overall cost. Even after your review I believe it's gimmicky. Id rather buy a solid, well-built, and well-insulated dual-zone cooler, and use ice trays in the freezer section to make ice. How much ice does someone need when camping anyway if you have a 12v fridge/freezer to keep things cold?
That’s a valid point, the freezer already makes ice for you if you want. And if we know there is high demand, just like at home, we are better off buying a bag of ice from the store - and store that ice in the freezer.
I have a Snomaster 85L Expedition series dual zone. I have two ice trays that are covered. I use them rarely. But I can make ice pretty fast. Fidge will go to -8.
It's very well insulated. 2.75 inches of insulation. And with the insulated cover it's a little over 3 inches total. I've ran it in 110+ degrees heat. It'll cycle normally. It doesnt constantly run. I usually keep it at 0 degrees for the freezer side and 35 for the fridge. And run it off a Bluetti EB200p. I can get anywhere from 53-63 hours run time off it.
I would like to know if the solar panel actually keeps it juiced up so i could theoretically put a soda and water in it and leave and come back in 3 months and come back and theyre still cold
@@TheAnnoyingBoss that’s a yes and a no. Under ideal conditions, the answer is yes. But we rarely have ideal conditions for long. The fridges are designed for short term use, like a long weekend. For long term use you will always need more solar panels and a larger battery.
Not to mention the 2-3 year life expectancy of this product. Sure, will last much longer if you only use it a few weeks a year. But if you use it in a car or RV frequently, it’s built to last just past the warranty period.
Finally a serious Positives/Negatives review. Seen several reviews of this unit so far, and yours is the most comprehensive. Thanks.
So many "reviewers" on RUclips are more like press releases. They get the thing and just read the blurb in the front of the manual to you. I was considering one of them telescoping ladders, once. A "reviewer" went up it about two rungs and, despite the fact it was obviously flexing and bowing dangerously, just said "seems good".
