I was blessed with 22lbs of apples. I borrowed extra crockpots, a apple core peeler, and bought a bunch of mason jars. Your video from 2 years ago is helping me tremendously! Thank you
I used this recipe i didn't peel the apples to help make it thick and I cooked a extra hour after blending in my blender an I added a pinch of pink salt its beautiful tysm for this recipe
Thank you for this video. I’m new to canning and it helps when someone comes to the point and not over doing it just to make a longer video. I get confused but with your video I can actually understand and follow along and understand what I’m supposed to be doing. So thank you so much
So glad this has to cook all day. I found out I am out of Nutmeg. So it is in to the store. Thanks for the recipe. Another use for my apples off my lonely little tree which gives me softball size apples. Its great.
Thank you for sharing , I made apple butter using the same crockpot. I used two four pounds bags in the exact same crockpot as yours. I began at 11:00 PM. 0400 I stirred 0700 I’ll use my immersion blender., I left the peels on. This will be my third batch of apple butter .
I appreciate this recipe so much because it is the most simplest recipe of apple butter I've ever seen I have a Crock-Pot I cannot wait to get started thank you so very much for the easy recipe God bless you!
It's a crisp, cool morning here in Deep East Texas and I'm about to make some apple butter! Thank you for your recipe and instruction, M'am. Sidenote: your video has been up 3 years less than Martha Stewart's recipe ...and she only has 27k views. Good job!!!! 🎉❤
Great idea using a slow cooker to reduce the apples. I have tried this using about 8 lbs. of apples per batch. Sure cuts down on the stirring. However I don't use anywhere near that much sugar as I am cutting sugar right out of my diet and have found the apples themselves contain enough sugar so that when reduced the product is plenty sweet enough with about 5 tablespoons of added sugar.
@@reginaheineman564 I am cutting way down on most if not all refined sugar. I substitute dried fruit (dates, figs, cherries, plums) in quite a few things and use lemon and orange zest, cinnamon, anise, nutmeg, etc and don't miss sugar at all.
@@reginaheineman564 I'm very late getting you a response. Most apples don't need sugar in this sort of recipe for sweetness. HOWEVER if you're going to preserve these keep in mind the sugars in the recipe often play a part in extending shelf life. If you are canning this, it may not be safe to ditch the sugar entirely.
@reginaheineman3653 Start out by cutting the sugar down by around a quarter to not quite half. My husband of more than thirty years is a type I insulin dependent juvenile diabetic. He was 3-4yrs old when diagnosed; he is almost 60 now. A dietitian & nutritionist we used to see regularly said that when it comes to sugar & diabetes, it’s all about balance & portion sizes. Diabetics can & should eat foods with sugar. The important thing is to portion the sizes & balance with healthy foods. Apple butter is phenomenal, especially when it’s homemade. You know EXACTLY what is in it. A balanced breakfast for us using apple butter is: 1 cup plain oatmeal (not the packets; I make the cooked Quaker oatmeal in the Instant Pot) 2 tablespoon apple butter, divided 1/4 cup raisins (or dried dates, or cran-apple sauce) 1 crumpet/English muffin split 8oz glass 2% or skim milk Cook oatmeal. I make it in the Instant Pot. When done, add 1 tablespoon apple butter, raisins (or cran-apple sauce, dried chopped dates, etc). Toast split crumpet/English muffin. Add the second tablespoon of apple butter to crumpet. Serve with milk, as well as coffee if you like. We use a bit of our milk in coffee as cream & mix a bit into oatmeal too. We share the crumpet.
That's a nessecary step for safely canning the apple butter in order to be shelf-stable. If, rather than canning, you are going to just refrigerate some and freeze the rest, it's unnecessary. But getting into canning is a good idea.
Christine Granville you can make it with out the all spice. All the spices I put in are to taste but leaving out the all spice won’t be a big deal! Just go with what you’ve got. I’m sure it will turn out great!
Just a tip to everyone if you’re leaving the crockpot on for like 10 hours, don’t be like me and forget to use a potholder and then ruin your entire batch and give up for the whole season. I’m trying again this year with the same recipe. Wish me luck. Yes, I will be using potholders, also thanks for the tip to the person who said add cinnamon last that will help it not be bitter
Whoever invented that apple peeler should win a Pulitzer prize. I would never make this if I had to peel all those apples by hand. Have you ever used the Crock Pot (pressurized one) to make the apple butter?
Lavella Lovejoy I would love to answer this question for you. What exactly to you mean how to test before canning. I will go back and watch this to listen to my wording but I’m more then likely saying something about a taste test to make sure you like the taste as well as the texture
Very late to this party, but she might mean testing for consistency? Put a little on a plate and check for a watery ring around the actual apple butter. You want little to no water ring.
@@arisucheddar3097 Thank You I found out last year then put up 45 pints of it it turned out so good too. Yes the thickness what I wanted to know. Thank you again tho.
Lori Baker the apples cook down and produce there own liquid along with the sugar. I have seen recipes that call for juice or cider but have never made apple butter that way. Let us know how your apple butter turns out! Happy Canning
Homesteading With The Morgan's, I made 2 different batches & did them 2 different ways. I peeled on batch & didn’t peel the other. I cooked one in the crockpot & the other batch I did in my Nesco electric roaster. I think the one roaster (non peeled) ended up thicker. They probably both taste different & I am not sure what exactly it is supposed to taste like as I have never made it before this year. I am hopi g that the people that I go e it to will like it. 🤞 My husband thinks that I am doing to much canning now since he says that we only have so much space & it gets smaller all the time but, I don’t want to stop as I like the fact that I know what I am giving g my family vs buying it in the store.

Immersion blender works well.
for anyone wondering, 12 pounds of apples got me 6.5 pints
I tried it worked great. What I did I put them in before I went to bed . When I got up mashed a little bit and it was ready to can.
Another reason why I love crock pots! Enjoy your apple butter!!
Very easy to follow. I can't wait to try this. Thank you for posting!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks 4sharing..you made it So simple. And easy.. Loved it...
Delish! Thank you!
Looks easy and simple gotta try it
Thank you for posting this. I am a newbie canner, just getting my feet wet in water bath canning. This is my next project. ❤️
I just made it over night and Love it!! thanks
Can u do a Watergate on a reg. Big pot or Dutch oven?
wow that was super quick & easy!!! I just had to subscribe! Keep em coming-please, thanks!
thanks for the video I made your recipe yesterday and canned today it is amazing !!!!
Looks so good and easy too! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this video
Awesome!
No apple cider? I've seen quite a few recipes using it. I'm just wondering if it will still come out good without it.
Easy Peasy! Thank you!!!
Is a canner necessary? Or maybe a pressure cooker?
What does the water bath at the end do? Is it important? Thanks.
That's a nessecary step for safely canning the apple butter in order to be shelf-stable. If, rather than canning, you are going to just refrigerate some and freeze the rest, it's unnecessary. But getting into canning is a good idea.
Can you use a stick blender
Do we add water at all?
Thank you for sharing. What can I possibly use in place of the all spice if I don't have it.

what is the headspace for canning?
Can you use a blender no food processor
how many cup of juice
Is there a written recipe? How many apples? Do you use a certain type of apple? How long do they cook?
Mine is too thin and runny, any advice?
You have to keep cooking it down and the waters will continue to evaporate.
Whoever invented that apple peeler should win a Pulitzer prize. I would never make this if I had to peel all those apples by hand. Have you ever used the Crock Pot (pressurized one) to make the apple butter?
About how long do I need to cook it for? Covered or uncovered?
I know your comment is old but for others,
10 hours covered then 2 hours uncovered
How do you test for it being done before canning?

how long can you store it for?
If canned up to two years, if not a few weeks in the fridge.
Thank you
I tried to subscribe, but , got an error code network problem [503] !!!!
How long you cook it for
I saw another video and she said about 20 hours.
I have done quite a bit of apple butter and peeling is not required...JMO
Ken W yes you can use a blender.
I left peels on once, the texture was grainy, no matter how long it had cooked and multiple tries with the submersible blender
You need an emersion blender.
Should I be the 667th subscriber to get rid of that number? Mine came out so good
Does it get that brown from reducing?
Or is that from the spices?
The sugar in the apples caramelizes as they cook.
There's no way that was only 2 Tablespoons of Cinnammon. Looked Moore like 1/4 to 1/2 T. Anyway, looks and sounds delish.
How much head space?
1/4 inch
Why no liquid? All the recipes I have seen have cider or apple juice added to it.
