- How To Set Your Noise Gate (Gate) In OBS Using ReaPlugs' ReaGate. In this video, I share with you how to set your noise gate or gate using ReaGate which is the noise gate plugin found in Cockos' ReaPlugs.
A Noise Gate is set about your noise floor - you raise the volume just above the noise. We will also Identify what your noise floor is before we set the noise gate. We will also identify the frequency response of your microphone while we set the gate.

I feel like the order of the filters should be the first things said in every mic tutorial, thanks a lot I finally fixed an annoying noise that kept happening whenever the noise gate kicked in.
Glad it helped!
I followed the steps you outline in this video and applied them to my OBS Live installation. I went live last night for a few hours and everyone watching complimented me on how loud and clear I was sounding! Thank you for sharing this info!
YESSSS! Stay blessed!
@@AndrewAlliance Thank you, you, too!
After implementing the setup outlined in this video, I've noticed something on my livestreams: when I'm speaking normally, I sound great, but when I suddenly raise my voice (yelling at a video game, for example) the sound cuts out. I'm not exactly sure what it could be. Any ideas?
@@greecoboost hmm..sounds like you might be peaking...make sure ur levels don't go deep in the red when you raise ur voice....that will make it cut out. Hope that helps.
Your pointer about the filter order really made a difference for my setup. Thanks for that!!! I can't believe other vids don't mention that info.
You're welcome!
Thank you for the tutorial, using the sound meter app sure was key and helped understanding where to set above room noise level precisely.
Glad it helped!
dude ive watched at least 10 videos and yours is the best by far. i just wanted to thank you ^^
Glad I could help!
man the eq really makes a difference too
Thank you!
Ayyeee I hear the stream beats in the background. Nice my man!
You already know!
what if frequency on mic is up to 20000hz?
Great video. Easy to watch. I wish you would have shown all of your settings! I feel like we have a similar voice and I would benefit from seeing where you're at and then tweaking from there.
Thanks for the idea and thanks for watching, will keep that in mind.
im new to audio- confused why you have separtate high and low passes if we set those values in the gate? does it do more or?
Thanks so much Andrew for this tutorial, in your audio chain what’s your first plugin for noise suppression? I can’t find reafir in my obs
reafir is free with reaper reaplugs
Now I just have the same problem as the mic in the video...the static when I talk.
What do you mean by "sound floor"? Sound meter gives me 3 numbers, low, average and high.
that EQ thing is hard to set. I give up on that part.😅
Live to fight another day. ⚡
Why would you put in a low pass filter at a frequency above what your mic can pick up? That just doesn't make sense to me. A low pass filter will allow frequencies to pass that are below the frequency specified. So now you're allowing frequencies between 15k and 16k that your mic can't even pick up, so that would just be random noise?
I'm hung up on that part as well. From the way hes explaining it, isnt it supposed to be a range between the two extremes?
Background music is masking any hiss etc so not a true representation
Wth people haven’t seen this ???
Not sure.
This video’s underrated & I don’t like that
I don't either, thanks for watching and tell a friend.
@@AndrewAlliance No problem at all
Your mic sounds awful. The ‚S‘ and ‚T’ sounds are way to harsh, bass missing, its not balanced at all.
Get your ears checked, it sounds fine
Yeah? I'll throw my mic and entire setup away.
