Nice, but when you create such a hybrid you get a vehicle that can both drive and fly, but do neither of the functions really well. For each function, I would want a vehicle that does it well. General aviation is already dangerous enough.
The military has many planes with foldable planes. Especially on the air craft carriers. The need them to fold to save space. You can get some real ugly crosswinds when you’re at sea.
I hope this happens sooner than later. The experiment looks too big though but it'll improve once it hits productions. I wonder if the major car companies are working on the flying car concept?
A car- paramotor combination could actually be the most feasible. It might not be fast in the air, but it is no exotic Engineering. And it's much more affordable.

this looks epic, i'd want one if getting a pilots license didn't cost as much as the plane would, also i can see how this is a really cool design, it would allow faster travel between airstrip, and then fold up and go to anywhere you like without needing a taxi, then once you're done you can just go and fly back home to your local airstrip, and since you can fill up at a gas station this would work anywhere, this is an awesome design, but this would probably end up being more deadly than driving a car ever would, just a little bit of bad weather and things might not go well, also if a bunch of people did this, then i'd imagine it would be a nightmare just like triffic on the freeway plus we'd always have to worry about people falling out of the sky if they forgot to refuel, or any number of things, this is a cool concept for the rich man, but for most i think this would be an extremely dangerous thing in the hands of common people

The Terrafugia company was bought by a Chinese corporation a few years ago. Soon after, their website announced that, while they would honor pre-orders for this "Transition" model, their planned FX model would be replaced with an air taxi meant only for commercial use. Not long after, the Chinese laid off most all the US staff, announcing that the operation would be moved to China. The Terrafugia website is now non-functional. So, it appears that this project was killed via corporate takeover.
This is not gonna happen guys. The FAA will also make sure of this. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is not safe for average people. I'm a student pilot and there is so much training that you must have before you can even fly in the air, and it's not possible for some people to even obtain. And you can't just take-off on a road... Remember, commercial airlines have the right of way in the sky too, and you can have 16-year old Billy doing barrel rolls with his drunk friends at 6000ft. Sorry to tell you. It's way to unsafe.
The FAA isn't to worried... I'll bet the guy had to signed a bunch of paperwork that pretty much keeps him legal. To take off from anything other than an airport, the local authorities have to agree with the take-off and landing and that includes helos that crop dust, in other words, this is nothing new to the FAA.

It is still bound under FAA regulations and can read them in the AIM, and to takeoff with any aircraft requires a pilots license or a students license if with an instructor. This is a plane... and you will have to spend almost 10,000 dollars to get a pilots license. That's about it.

the only downside is the altitude due to type of fuel it’s using but a great way to travel and way cheaper than private jet because you don’t need to rent a hangar

It seems to be very fragile, especially the folding wings.
We fly a lot of planes with foldable wings. Just think of an air craft carrier. Many of those planes fold to save space. Very dependable and safe.
